Frantically downloading uber and venmo to get a ride. then ed showed up out of the blue (like the Bat! haha) and saved the rest of the night. gave him the address and he immediately confirmed the hotel name. his ride (then) is not your typical yellow cab but he did call in his pickup/destination. over his cell phone which gave me the impression he is connected with a fleet. he gave us a short run down of the streets specially where the restaurants and bars are nearest our hotel. his fare was honest and fair ( based on our own internet search). when we were close to our hotel we passed along a convenience store and Ed asked if we needed to go for quick stop to get what we may need. I quickly responded yes! my wife and i quickly went inside and got bottle if water and some chips and toothpaste. that was really cool of ed. on our flight back to the west, tried texting him to book a ride back to the airport through the number on his call card he gave us. his response was within minutes. he was precisely on time; like military precise. turns out he is a vet! (thank you for your service Sir Ed !) Keeping his card and will be sharing he's info to all we know who is headed out to DAB. Hoping to avail of his services again next time we are in. He said he would be about an half hour or so. We waited for about a hour and called him again, no answer. I'm the kind of person who, if I am able to, will try to learn the most from any circumstances I'm under and I had a great series of notes I took with my driver. I went looking for them when I was writing this review, and I couldn't find them, so let me try to share what I recall! Not only was the drive affordable and well worth the price, the driver drove with confidence and expertise to the airport. It was an early morning trip and I had notified him within less than 24/48 hours of my flight of my need for a ride, and they provided. I've been on shuttles or taxis where the driver will take a route completely unexpected, and even ignore all my requests about why we are driving into stoplight intersection traffic, increasing our wait time, instead of preferring highway traffic. None of that happened here, and instead, I got to learn about the part of Florida my grandfather found as a home while enjoying an air-conditioned and smooth ride. I had to come back and write even a bit about it. Prefer these people over Uber or Lyft--those companies are exploiting people hungry for cash and who will follow wherever the app takes them. It's not nearly as trustworthy as knowing you'll get a ride that's worth your price and keeps local businesses going.
