After selecting the fuel grade, I…read morelifted the nozzle from its rack, brought it over to the car, and without my even touching the handle, gasoline spurted onto the side of my car and the left rear tire. The (almost new) tire now has ugly brown splotches on the sidewall resulting from contact with the gasoline. Just to be perfectly clear, I am not someone who ever "tops off" the gas tank, which is the usual way people spill gasoline on their vehicles. This pump was obviously malfunctioning, causing it to spray gasoline before I had even laid a finger on the handle. In all my years of filling up at gas stations, nothing remotely like this has ever happened before.
