My dog was injured twice, the second time his cornea was torn with an eye ulceration and conjunctivitis. The owner was not willing to pay the Vet ER bill, denying all responsibility and yelling at me by phone : claiming he is a "devout Christian!" He went to the groomer fine and came home with an eye ulceration! They also make you pay $35 extra for a senior dog , but are still rushing, since they are perpetually under-staffed which puts so much pressure on the poor groomers. Owner promisEd to call back and didn't. What kind of integrity does that demonstrate? He never even left his last name and number. I decided not to ask for compensation for the two other vet bills , and again the owner yelled at me and told me to "get my lawyer! I don't make deals!"

***This review is ONLY for their South Shore Center satellite location for "Cat Adoptions"***…read more This place can hardly be called an animal shelter. It's literally 2 employees/volunteers and a "cat experience" center. There were supposedly 10 cats in the whole facility but only 2 were visible while the rest were either napping or scared and cowering away. With the 2 that were visible, one was cowering and hissing in the corner of her cage and the other was laying on top of their cage, only allowing to be touched by an extendable cat scratcher. It was an open space configuration and it was made for the cats to have freedom to roam around. But I didn't mind that, I actually enjoyed the "immersive cat motel" style...if it'd had worked. What I did mind was the way this facility was run. There was a secretary, and a volunteer who couldn't care less about the people coming in to see the cats. With the cat that I did use the scratcher on, I made the mistake of moving my hand closer to try and let it smell my scent, but it SWIPED and SCRATCHED me right away in a hissy fit. The volunteer was then so nonchalant while blood was profusely running down my hand, giving me an "I told you so" attitude. All she said was that the cat didn't like to be petted, but failed to disclose the fact that the cat would swipe at you even if your hand was at any close proximity within a foot of it. She said those cats have been there for several months to nearly half a year. I'm thinking in my mind: "Wow, you've had them here for so long and you just let them run amok and do and act however they want, exactly the same way since the day they've arrived, rather than spending time to rehabilitate them so that they can tolerate/enjoy human interaction and actually be adoptable cats?" I actually did ask her "how do you expect to adopt them out if they can't even tolerate human touch"? All she replied with was "Well, ideally they'd warm up to you, but if not, then you'll just have to adopt them and never touch/hold them". The worst part was that there were no warning signs posted anywhere and also that they allowed a cat that swipes at people to literally roam freely outside its cage. What if there were children around? This was literally the most insane "animal shelter" I've ever been to and after my first visit, I definitely will NOT be coming back until they figure out how to run an animal shelter because these people have absolutely no freaking clue what they're doing. This is at most, an animal "sanctuary" and have no plans to help their animals adapt to human interaction and become adoptable pets. I would stay away. PS: The attached photo was updated 3/5/26 and was about 2 weeks after visiting. Permanent scars from the cat swipes.

I took my dogs there for ear infections and flea meds. My female dog had a cyst on her. Initially…read morewhen I asked them about removing the cyst I was told they can't do it and to take her to a surgeon for removal. But the cyst wasn't bothering her, nor was it solid like cancer so I decided to leave it alone. It had been 2 years with the cyst no problem. So I took them in April of this year for the ear infection and flea meds. When they brought her back to me they told me they had drained the cyst. THIS WAS NOT WHAT I BROUGHT HER FOR NOR DID I ASK AT THIS APPOINTMENT!! I asked why they did that and she said the doctor told her it was normal practice which I knew was not! The told me to monitor it and if it got infected to bring her to an emergency clinic. A few days later the cyst was back and larger! It was now hard and filed with blood! I tried to take her to the El Ceritto location and was told they couldn't help her and to call a surgeon. I called and took her around and was getting estimates of about $2800! I couldn't afford that. I called Petvet back and told them and they basically said I'm on my own and wouldn't help me save her. I was deeply devastated. By that time the cyst ruptured and was now a giant hole on her side. Luckily I found Vets In Vans. They quickly put her in antibiotics and got the infection down. Then was able to heal her with meds from the inside out. I spent almost $1000 trying to save my dog. Today I went back simply for a flea med refill and was turned away in the most rudest manor from a white lady with matted hair like a dog, who works there. She yelled at me in front of everyone that they won't see my dogs ever again because of "what I had done before". I was confused because I definitely did complain but was never rude. And in fact I could have complained to the board but chose not to because that was literally the only issue I've ever had with them. But after today's treatment from that lady with the dog matted hair, I am definitely filing! She is the true definition of a Snow Roach and should never be allowed to work with anyone's pet again! I asked for her name, she refused and told me figure it out! Would not give me the manager or owners info to file a complaint. There is also a young African American Woman who was very nice and professional who did take the time to hear me out. But she also denied what had happened saying their clinic doesn't do cysts. I asked her for the paperworkfrom April's appointment and she kindly gave that to me. And that is where I discovered that they actually noted that they drained the cyst I showed it to her and she even looked surprised. So needless to say I'm filing a complaint with the board and a small claims court claim as well!

Seeing birds like corellas confined to small cages in pet stores is heartbreaking. These are highly intelligent, deeply social animals that naturally live in large flocks, spending their days flying, playing, and interacting with one another. The "exotic pet" trade removes animals from the wild or breeds them for sale, often in poor and inhumane conditions. Many birds end up isolated, neglected, or abandoned once people realize how complex their needs actually are. The corella pictured here from this store was desperately reaching for affection through the cage bars. No sentient being should be treated as a product to buy and sell. Please stop selling animals. Instead, work with rescues to help the many birds already in need of homes, and support efforts to ultimatelyend the exotic pet trade.

When I had our kids and they suddenly started toddling around, our dog got really scared and Sen helped me develop a plan to keep the dog and toddlers safe without having to rehome our dog. Now our kids are older and through using tips from Sen they have built trust with our dog, and I think that she is having just about the best life she can possibly have. After some bad experiences at other places and trying to trim her nails ourselves, we now drive 40 mins each way every other month to have Sen file/trim our dog's nails - and we wouldn't trust anyone else to treat her with such care and respect. Everyone we meet while waiting there also has nothing but praise for Mister Beever's team, and we have gotten to know several other members of the team who my children (big horse fans) have now come to admire and trust. I always recommend Sen to anyone looking for a dog behaviorist or trainer or anyone who is at the end of their rope with their dog or cat - he's just the best, and his team is amazing. I also want to mention that when we had a family medical emergency a few years ago I asked if we could board our dog with Sen & Alex. Our dog is safe and loved and actually calm & happy sometimes now, which is a miracle, AND I wouldn't leave her with most people because she is still a reactive traumatized chihuahua mix who doesn't do well with change. Sen & Alex didn't have space but said they would work with me to figure something out since they'd known us for so long and I was so panicked about figuring out details. We ended up not having to board her at the last minute, but I was so grateful that despite having PACKED schedules and lives they were willing to help me troubleshoot. Oh, and one more thing - Sen takes the BEST photos! This is our beloved pup - and Sen took this photo during a training session years ago. It remains one of my favorites of her because it captures her personality - intense, food-focused, smart, and a bit of a goofball. Thanks, Mr. Beever's Paws & Claws!

Back in 2018, we booked their services for a few weeks while we were planning to travel outside the country. A few months before our trip, my partner suffered an injury at work. Unfortunately, just a few days before we were scheduled to leave, his condition became such that he was no longer able to travel. I contacted Alex and explained the situation--that because of my partner's health and injury, he needed to stay home and we had no choice but to cancel our plans. I completely understand that this is a business and that cancellation policies exist. However, this was a major and very difficult situation in my partner's life, and what disappointed me most was the lack of empathy or understanding. Considering that we had used their services for years, I wish someone had simply called us, acknowledged what we were going through, or expressed some sympathy. Instead, it felt like the response was simply that we had to pay, and that was the end of it. It wasn't just about the money or the cancellation policy. It was about how the situation was handled and the lack of compassion at a very difficult time. After being loyal customers for years, that experience completely changed how we felt about the company. Unfortunately, we would never use their services again.
