I didn't see any restrooms. What I did see was a clean well kept shop with two fantastic individuals running the place. They have a beautiful selection of food, flowers baked goods everything but zero customer service skills I was not greeted or acknowledged in the slightest as I walked in. While scrolling social media one evening, I stumbled across a heated debate about who makes the…read morebest peanut butter pie in Central PA. This conversation was clearly MADE for me. As someone who takes peanut butter desserts perhaps a little more seriously than the average human being, I immediately started making a list of the top contenders. Oak Grove Farms kept popping up, so when I found myself with a free rainy Saturday afternoon, it became time for an official Peanut Butter Pie Procurement Mission. Now, Oak Grove Farms offers way more than peanut butter pie. Their farm market is stocked with fresh produce, baked goods, meats, dairy products, locally made items and all kinds of other goodies. But this particular Yelp review? This mission? Laser-focused on peanut butter pie. Before leaving home, I called to make sure I wouldn't drive over only to discover they'd sold out. The nice lady who answered the phone happily confirmed they still had peanut butter pie available. Mission status: ON! When I arrived, I was actually surprised by how busy the farm market was despite the rainy weather. Apparently a little rain isn't enough to keep folks away from Oak Grove, which is always a good sign. I walked straight inside and made an immediate beeline for the refrigerated pie case. There were only two individual slices of peanut butter pie left, so I grabbed one before anyone else could beat me to it. They also had half and whole pies available, but let's try to exercise at least a little self-control on the first visit. The damage? A whopping $2.49 for a slice of peanut butter pie. I actually laughed. That's almost suspiciously affordable these days. As I was heading toward the register, I made the mistake of walking past the whoopie pies. Or perhaps the best decision of the day. Five minutes later, I was walking out with not only my peanut butter pie but also a Shoofly Whoopie Pie for another $2.50. My picnic dessert situation had officially escalated. Fast forward a few hours...dinner was over. It was dessert time. The peanut butter pie absolutely lived up to the hype! The filling was light and fluffy while still delivering a rich peanut butter flavor in every bite. I'm usually not the biggest fan of chocolate cookie crusts on peanut butter pie because I think they sometimes overpower the filling, but this one worked beautifully. Even the little dollops of whipped topping around the edge added just the right finishing touch. This one has officially earned a spot near the top of my Central PA peanut butter pie rankings! And then...the Shoofly Whoopie Pie. I honestly bought it because I'd never seen one before and curiosity got the better of me. And, I'm really glad it did! It was incredibly moist with a rich molasses flavor that came through beautifully without being overwhelming. It was unlike any whoopie pie I've had before, and easily one of my favorite varieties I've tried in quite a while. Mission accomplished! While Oak Grove Farms is clearly much more than just a destination for desserts, this peanut butter pie expedition was an overwhelming success. Next time I'll spend more time exploring everything else the market has to offer. But let's be honest...I'll probably leave with another slice o

It's no secret that at this point I basically belong to the unofficial Hollabaugh Bros. fan club…read more I've reviewed every festival of theirs I've attended this year, and I certainly wasn't about to break the streak for the 36th Annual Peach Festival! Especially because, candidly, it had been a few weeks since my last Hollabaugh festival and I was starting to miss them. This year's Central PA peach crop took a hit from the weather, but Hollabaugh held their annual Peach Festival anyway, complete with peach desserts, samples, live music, vendors, food trucks, wagon rides, games and plenty more. The festival was free to attend with a $5 parking fee benefiting the organizations providing volunteers. I arrived around 1:00 p.m. Saturday and, as usual, everything was incredibly well organized. Helpful parking attendants got me situated quickly, and shuttles were available for anyone who needed some help getting from the parking area to the festival. I weirdly LOVE that Hollabaugh keeps the same general festival layout every time. The creature of habit in me appreciates knowing exactly where I'm going. I know where the samples are. I know where the baked goods are. I know where important business needs to happen. I started in the sample room, where a spicy peach BBQ sauce convinced me it needed to come home for a future dinner. Then it was time for my traditional baked goods counter visit, where I learned that apparently I have officially become a regular. I've developed a habit of buying three festival-themed sugar cakes at every Hollabaugh festival. They normally package six together, but the staff have always kindly split a package for me. This time, one of the women behind the counter RECOGNIZED ME and asked if I was there for my three peach sugar cakes. Umm...YES! I don't know whether to be proud or concerned that I've reached "the bakery staff knows my sugar cake order" status, but I'm choosing proud. While she packaged them, I also grabbed two of the largest carrots I've ever seen for that night's dinner and then headed outside for dessert. Normally, I get the festival-themed milkshake, but this time peach pie à la mode caught my attention. They offered vanilla or peach ice cream on top, but we're at the PEACH FESTIVAL. There was only one correct answer. PEACH ON PEACH. The peach ice cream was TREMENDOUS! Sometimes peach ice cream tastes vaguely fruity and you're supposed to trust everyone involved that peach was the intended flavor. Not this stuff. This tasted like PEACH. The pie underneath was equally fantastic, and I demonstrated impressive personal growth by NOT going back inside and buying an entire one. Please clap for my restraint. Of course, I still had to break into one of my peach sugar cakes. Fluffy, sweet and packed with chunks of peaches. Exactly what I hoped it would be. Tradition successfully maintained! I spent about an hour at the festival, but you could easily make an afternoon of the live music, vendors, food trucks and activities. That's one of the things Hollabaugh does so well. Come for an hour or settle in for the afternoon. Either way, there's plenty to see, eat and enjoy. And I'm realizing there are four things I can apparently count on every single time I come to a Hollabaugh festival. The staff are friendly. Always. The parking and event organization are easy. Always. The property is beautiful. Always. And at some point, I will put something in my mouth that makes me say, "OH MY GOD, THIS IS GOOD!" ALWAYS. Thank you, Hollabaugh Bros., for another fantastic festival and for continuing to create events that are about so much more than selling peaches, apples or baked goods. These festivals give people a reason to gather, support local businesses, try something new, enjoy some great food and spend an afternoon together on a beautiful Adams County farm. I'll obviously be back. At this point, somebody behind the bakery counter is probably already preparing my three sugar cakes.
