I had a great time at RA Sushi! The service was wonderful and the food came out quickly.

Not a bad restaurant to dine at before or after a Broadway Show. Came here on a Wednesday evening after work with a friend. Didn't really need a reservation as there was still a handful of available tables to sit at, including the sushi bar. They had a Valentine's Day special where they were offering Surf N Turf ($54), so I ended up getting that. This was served with hibachi vegetables and white rice along with a half lobster, which the meat has been pried out and cut into smaller pieces, and hibachi filet, which they cut into cubes. I ordered the filet medium-rare, but it felt like it came out closer to medium-well done. My buddy I got dinner with ordered the Wagyu of the World section. This was a three course menu that costs $69 per person. He choose the A5 Japanese Wagyu Tokyo Broil and got the meat rare, which turned out to be a good move as they overcook their meat. Close to time square was walking distance from our hotel. Service was slow and looked like they were working with limited staff. Staff were very friendly we had Sandy she was very nice. They have lunch options, HH and main menu. There is a lot of variety to choose from and options for everyone. We went with the sushi rice which looked yummy but was very overcooked making it extremely chewy. Gramercy roll was the best came with yellow tail, salmon and tuna. It was perfect. My favorite was the garlic fried rice. SO good I could have just eaten that. We also got a green salmon salad mixed with the right amount of citrus and nuts. Over good experience. read more

From the moment we walked in, the place made a great first impression. We were greeted quickly and didn't have to wait long at the door. The lighting was dim but not too dark -- very calming and perfect for a relaxed meal. It also wasn't crowded at the time, which made the atmosphere even nicer. It did take a little over 10 minutes for our waiter to come back and take our order, but he was very sweet and polite. Looking at the menu, I personally wished there were photos. I'm not very familiar with sushi or Japanese dishes, so it would've helped to see what the rolls looked like before ordering -- but that's just my preference. Now the food -- SO good. Everything was well seasoned and not too salty. We ordered the Ra'ckin Shrimp, the crunchy shrimp tempura roll, and classic California rolls, and all of them were 10/10. Yikes! This is what we call "grocery store" sushi, which seems like a Good idea at the time but never really pans out. Giving extra stars for the friendly staff and the spicy tuna roll is good. Hazel was our amazing server, he provided some recommendations on specialty rolls. The holy crab roll and chili ponzu yellowtail roll were my favorites. The baked stuffed salmon and cold water lobster fried rice is a must have. Their signature cocktail, mermaid's brew was so tasty, highly recommend this drink. My daughter wanted to try los tacos number one right next-door and when I saw the tacos, I immediately said I was not eating there. I was lucky enough to find this place right next-door and it was happy hour so I got a spicy tuna roll and two pieces of yellowtail and an edamame my side for only $16. What an amazing price right in Times Square and the sushi was very delicious. All of the food that we had in Times Square was pretty crappy. My partner has been raving about Ra Sushi for a long time, and I finally got to try it out this past week. We went for dinner, and the place was pretty crowded, but there was no wait and we were seated right away. We started with one of the shareables, which was okay, and for my entree I got the shrimp hibachi burrito. It was filling, but flavorless without the sauce that came with it. The only explanation for good reviews for this restaurant are out-of-town tourists who have no idea what sushi should be. We arrived at RA at around 1pm on a Tuesday. I'd estimate the restaurant to be half full. We waited a full 20 minutes before any server came by even to give us water, much less take our order. The three of us ordered some simple rolls and again waited about 15 minutes. The waiter eventually came by with a single lukewarm miso soup for the one at our table of three that ordered a special roll. I politely asked the server to comp the other two a bowl of soup since it was now 1:40 and we were starving. Thankfully two more lukewarm soups arrived in short order. What eventually came to the table were three rolls with cold rice that barely tasted of Japanese rice vinegar, and fell apart (not something one would expect from Japanese sticky rice). My fish was flavorless and the salad that came with my special roll looked like last week's pick. Our bill totaled close to $100 for three of us after a generous tip considering the lackluster service. Garbage tourist spot. Don't go. read more

Per RA Sushi's IG bio, they acquired Haru and it's a new owner but the same team. I bring this up because I'd go to Haru frequently before seeing a Broadway show and go to their old location downtown by an old apartment of mine. I have not been back to RA/formerly Haru since the pandemic though and I don't know if they're just trying to claim they have the same team to get its loyal customers, but the experience felt completely different? The flavor was just missing across the board. I ordered the Wagyu beef (the Australian filet cut), but it was overcooked and my medium rare request was cooked medium. The taste was bland - from the steak to the fried rice and hibachi veggies it came with. I didn't even bother packing the leftovers in a to-go bag. The onion soup, however, was surprisingly good, and I did enjoy the tuna crispy rice from the happy hour menu. My Tito's mule was watered down and the salad's dressing was overly tangy. The service was attentive and despite it being really busy, the server checked in on us, so no complaints there, but the food really felt like a miss. The spring rolls from the happy hour menu were just okay, and my dinner companion who ordered chicken teriyaki described it as "fine," nothing special. This is one of my favorite restaurants OF ALL TIME!!! Everything about this place is amazing!! I love the staff, ambiance, and the food. The restaurant itself is so beautifully decorated and I love the atmosphere it provides with the lighting. I have come here many times and my favorite item by far is the garlic edamame. Visiting this RA Sushi took me back to the days that I would frequent the RA sushi in Baltimore all the time. It used to be the only place that I would get sushi. I love their bento boxes and my all time favorite roll their Viva Las Vegas roll. It's very filling. This location specifically had great service and the restaurant was spacious, bathrooms were clean. Bonus points about RA Sushi is that if you join their rewards program they'll send you a gift card during your birthday (or maybe it's your half birthday) but either way it's the perfect treat. Asked for ponzu for the yellowtail and it needs it Sushi and sashimi for two was the entrée. It was as usual a cornucopia of sushi and sashimi. Particularly love the salmon and yellowtail. We went right before a show, ordered 2 rounds of drinks (sake, wine, lychee martini), and whole bunch of dishes (skewered chicken, pork gyoza, California roll, tuna roll, salmon roll, chips and dip, shrimp tempura) and the bill was $91 total for two people. They also had $45 per person option for restaurant week and the selections looked amazing. Our server was friendly and quick. One of the worst meals I've had in a long while. Came here for use of my half birthday coupon and doubt I'll ever be back. The crispy rice was hard to chew, a small bowl of miso soup $8, a lycheetini that I couldn't even finish, but worst of all the fish smelled a little fishy... never a good sign at a sushi joint. So good. They have a spectacular happy hour from 3 to 6 that I just had to take advantage of. I also had a birthday certificate that you can't use in combination with happy hour so I just placed a to go order and used the birthday certificate for that while enjoying my happy hour order while I was there. For happy hour, I ordered the spicy crispy rice and the viva Las Vegas roll. Moving forward, I'm going to swap out the imitation crab for the viva Las Vegas roll, but I really did love the cream cheese in the roll. I'm not really a tempura girl. 99% of the time when I get sushi it's cold and raw. This was my first time having cream cheese in a roll and I can't recall if I've ordered a tempura role before so I'll leave that 1% wiggle room. Usually the oil from the batter mixed with drinks makes me queasy that one time a friend ordered shrimp tempura. So I just stick to my usual rolls which are spicy crunchy tuna and/or spicy crunchy salmon which has just a tiny bit of crumbled tempura in it. I wanted to do something different this time. I also did the blushing geisha drink, and the dragon bite drink. They both are very sweet, but I definitely did get a little buzz. For my to go order, I got the crazy monkey and the teriyaki wings. I'm sad that I couldn't try the wings when they were fresh but they were tasty. I'm sure they were nice and crispy. The crazy monkey, while it isn't my style because of the mango in the roll, I actually did enjoy it. The customer service was great. The manager was there chatting with the customers. The environment was nice. I did mention to him that I didn't like the spicy crispy rice. There was nothing spicy about it but also the texture was a bit off to me. I told him that it wasn't warm enough for my liking and I think that also played a part in the texture as well. I'm not a fan of lukewarm food. It either has to be cold or hot but he reminded me that because it was raw fish topping the crispy rice, it's warm but not hot. I realized lukewarm sushi wasn't my vibe so those will be rolls that I just enjoy at Ra since I know what I'm getting myself into. I hate this area, but I'm definitely coming back. This place was a nice oasis from the busy street. We were greeted immediately and brought over to our table. My family and I decided to have dinner at RA Sushi in midtown Manhattan a few weeks ago. It turned out to be a frustrating and disappointing experience . I have not seen a restaurant with customers on coats and jackets as the place was too darn cold. Top it with cold food, stiff chicken and sushi that's not fresh and falls apart. What Happened??? It's still probably your best shot for a sit down meal in the area without reservations, because it was petty empty when we came in around 5:30pm, but our food still took a while to arrive. All 3 of our entrees ended up being very mediocre and expensive. I had the salmon salad, but also tried my sisters' sushi rolls and everything was okay at best and not very filling. We ended up still being somewhat hungry when we left. Our waitress was also barely around and though polite, not very friendly and attentive. My sisters even ended up making a comment that it was their least favorite meal their weekend visiting (though the most expensive). Very disappointing experience especially after having a pleasant one the first time. Though I would still recommend coming here for happy hour deals, I can't say I would recommend coming here any other time. read more

Came here ravenous after my initial lunch plans fell thru. RA was close by and has seating available. They were planning for a party of 60 while I was seated so not sure if this played a factor in the service. I was dining solo but people seated after me were seen before I was.... did I mention I was ravenous? I ordered a lychee martini and the hibachi filet and shrimp combo which came with sauteed veggies and their signature fried rice. I requested the filet medium rare. My drink came out almost immediately which I had to sip slowly. I didn't want to drink too quickly on an empty stomach. It was great! The large party came in about 15 mins after I did. They were on their apps and I still hadn't received my meal. I came in at 120. My meal came at 158. The filet was diced up and over cooked. At this point I was too hungry and needed to make my way to the theater. The veggies were delicious- would have loved more. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. The seemed a bit dry, i think perhaps made with brown rice. My total for a drink and a meal came to $75 which was a little steep but I came hungry and left fed. It served its purpose. read more

Sunny the bartender at RA Sushi is wonderful and always waits to place our order right at Happy Hour start. Eventhough we live in LA, RA Sushi and its staff has always made us feel like we are locals. Christopher the manager is one of upbeat and a pro at good morale. He makes his staff have a good day and it is fun to watch. The food is high in quality and they have great deals on Sake and Sake Bombs and Sauvignon Blanc.
