AUDRA SILVA RUINED MY HAIR!!! On December 9,2023 I went for my routine Japanese straightening perm. She put the iStraight perm solution on my hair and I sat there for a really long time and she didn't check my hair once. She didn't strand test to make sure and she's been doing my hair for 4 years and it seemed like she got comfortable and skipped important steps. We went to wash and then all my hair fell off my head. There was a literal mountain of my tail-bone length hair on the ground. She kept saying she doesn't know what happened and why. It didn't dawn on me until later she put the perm over a prior perm that didn't take very well. For a month after the disaster my hair kept coming out in handfuls and I eventually had to get the rest of it cut off, and my hair was basically an inch long. I had to wear a wig for a few months. I've cried so many times, I'm traumatized and it's taken years for it to be past my shoulders. It destroyed my self esteem, my body image, and I can finally talk about it. read more

Rebecca was awesome & gave me the best haircut I've ever gotten!! Well, I went through a lot of major changes with my hair in the last 4 years- and Rebecca has dazzled me time after time! I went from the long darker balayage to a platinum lob! Audra had a special for referring clients and my friend was going in to get her haircut and I joined her, since I was looking for a new stylist as well. So my friend and I got to visit over a glass of wine while she was getting a new style! How can you beat that?!? Well she offered me a free haircut as well and I eventually took her up on the offer (I'm a big chicken) She had the hair glitter in her hair and I got some put in too. So fun and different. She was very knowledgable and helpful in showing and teaching us how to recreate the style at home. Because you know how it is, you go get your hair done and then it NEVER looks like that again! I purchased a "Living Social" deal for this salon to recieve a Brazilian Keratin Treatment for $99. I am so glad I waited so long to do it. After purchasing the deal, I went into the salon and met the owner as well as a few of the hairstylist to gather more info about the treatment. I then scheduled to come in a couple of weeks after that. The salon is located on a main street, and upon entry, it has a very modern feel to it. Since arriving a few minutes early, I was offered some water and wine. Jessica was the one that did my hair treatment. She went through the whole process before starting, and address my concerns plus more. We talked a lot and she was very easy to work with. Although this is a 3 hour process, Jessica ensured I was ok sitting in my chair, and asked if I needed a break. And as for my hair, I love it! Ive found my salon!! First and foremost, I mainly just yelp about food. So yes, sht just got serious. I had an appointment with Audra and she is just funny, social, and she wants to make sure you want to be happy with your hair. I'm probably the worst person to ask anyone to cut their hair. I had no clue what I wanted nor did I plan to even color my hair. Last minute changes were accommodated, of course as long as I was fine with a little accommodation of my own. Granted she did take one phone call, but, duh, she's the owner. Overall I'm still here waiting for my highlights to time on through but I'm already happy. She listened to the minimum of what I asked and not only worked with it but made it better. The others that work here were just as funny and social. Great, now I have to live in Sacramento forever. I'm SO glad I chose this salon Groupon amongst many a couple months ago :) I really couldn't believe my eyes with the yelp reviews, so I had to give it a try for myself... ....and I must say: R17, I'll be back to visit you again ;) From the moment I booked my appointment to the moment I left it was a wonderful experience! I first called R17 asking about certain restrictions that applied to the Groupon for highlights. The receptionist didn't exactly know all restrictions and assured me that the owner of the salon would call me back with the details sometime. I didn't believe him at first, seeing as a lot of businesses tend to sweep difficult customers like me under the rug nowadays. But then ten minutes later the owner ACTUALLY called me back haha. I guess it goes to show just how dedicated this salon is to their customers :) Anyways, not too long ago I had my appointment for a cut and highlights earlier this month with Georgia, a new but experienced stylist at R17. She was REALLY helpful in figuring out what I wanted to do with my hair, not to mention she's sweet and very easy to talk to. She didn't force me to buy certain products and always asked me if what she was doing to my hair was to my satisfaction. She did my hair faster than I expected and did an amazing job on my cut and hombre highlights! I have black corse hair so it takes a few extra steps to go lighter. I've tried other hair salons to get my hair colored from highend to the lowend shops, just to find the right hairdresser that understands my hair. I had been a client of Audra's for over a year at her former salon GS Hair. I originally went from my natural dark brown hair to blonde with her and was very pleased with the results. However, I've gotta say that the bloom is officially off the rose for me. My last visit to Audra was at her new salon, R17. The place is right next to a massage parlor off Arden Way (not near the mall, close to the post office and Rice Noodle). When I visited, they had just opened the salon so it was definitely still a work in progress. The decor was very nice. However, I have two main problems with R17 which I'll be glad to detail. First: Probably because of all the other things she had going on, Audra was extremely distracted during my cut and color. I was literally left at the hair washing station with my head in that bowl thing while she ran off and did something else...not for just a minute, but for about ten. Hello, this is totally uncomfortable for a customer...not to mention awkward. One of the other stylists actually looked a little embarrassed--I think she could tell I was not happy. There was no explanation and no apology. My visit took a good 45 minutes longer than it should have because Audra frequently disappeared to go do other things. I understand it must be very stressful to open a new salon. But the bottom line is that if you aren't going to be able to provide good service to your clients as a result, then maybe you should wait an extra week to open the salon so you don't provide shitty customer service. Secondly: I have cut Audra a LOT of slack in the past. After going blonde, for a while the back part of my hair turned a really strange shade of reddish brown (definitely not blonde). She said she could fix it but it would take a while to filter the color out, and that it would happen gradually over multiple highlighting sessions. Sorry but there was no reason for my hair to be reddish brown in the back; this could easily have been fixed but was not. Also, many times when I got my highlights done I was left with big patches of dark brown hair from my roots still visible. If this had been underneath, in the back of my hair, I wouldn't have really cared because no one would've seen it since I usually wear my hair down. But if you're going for a natural look, visible dark brown roots by your face is NOT attractive on someone who's supposed to be blonde. This was not just one or two times, but instead was the norm. Due to my own cluelessness, I did not realize how unusual and sloppy this is and thus did not bitch and complain about it like I should've. That's on me, but the bad dye job is clearly on Audra. To her credit, Audra is friendly and outgoing, and very likable. I also had fantastic experiences having Melissa do my eyebrows. But when I'm spending around $150 for a haircut and highlights, I expect them to look damn good. Instead I just looked like a striped raccoon. Not the look I was going for. Sorry, but I won't be back. read more

Jessica F. is an awesome stylist. I am so picky about my hair. In the past, before finding Jessica, I have left other salons, at least 70% of the time disappointed. yesterday, Jessica cut and styled my hair amazingly. I emailed her a photo, and she delivered it perfectly! She asked about how I actually wear my hair, and gave me a cut and style I wanted and made it so that I can easily maintain it on my own. We also talked color, and she had great ideas on how to cover my greys and do unique and stylish highlights that look good with my skintone. Purchased a Groupon for R17 and ended up with Monique. I have medium/lomg hair and wanted to add some face-framing layers. I brought in a couple of picutres of what I did and DID NOT want done. I started with the "DID NOT want' picture, explaining how it had too much bang. Monique said with a bit of an attitude, "Well, what DO you want?" Ok, yeah,.. I guess I should have started there. Showed her the pic of the face framing layers I wanted with just a WEE bit of wispy bangs in the very front. She seemed to get what I was looking for. She was nice enough after that and we chatted as she worked....S-L-O-W-L-Y, like someone who hadn't had much haircutting time under their belt. Then she got to the face framing part. Well, my eyes were closed to avoid hair in my eyes, and after several minutes I decided to take a look. She had already cut too much off and guess what?! I looked VERY much like my "DID NOT want" picture! Then she made a comment that she thought the right side needed a little MORE off because it was "too full" - she wanted to thin it out. I had to tell her, "No, stop. No more bang!" She styled it and had to spend QUITE a bit of time on the right side of my bangs trying to get them to not be fuller than the leftside AND it was hard because the right side was pretty short - WAY shorter than the picture I showed her of what I DID want. Again, nice enough girl, but REALLY not experienced enough. So, about 6 months later I am STILL trying to grow out that clump of bangs on my right side. I probably should have brought it up when I was leaving, but had to rush off to pick up kids from school. Furthermore, it was with a Groupon, so it wasn't a lot of money. And I certainly was not intending to ever return, so any offer of free services would have been refused anyway. R17 very well might have some talented stylists but Monique is not one of them. read more

I have only been to this Salon once, so I will give it 4 stars for now, mostly for my inexperience here, but overall I really enjoyed my first visit to R17 Salon. Jessica was my stylist and I visited the salon on their introductory hair cut offer after having a bad experience elsewhere. My hair was in pretty bad shape to begin with, but Jessica listened carefully to my needs and concerns and managed to turn my disheveled locks into a soft and smooth cut with shape and body. I was impressed by the feel of this salon over the only other one I had been to in Sacramento, despite a lot of the decor being similar. The lighting was nice and soft, compared to overhead fluorescent lighting in many other salons. The salon was clean, up to date, modern and felt comfortable to walk into. I commented many times that the girls at this salon seemed more like friends than co-workers, which gave the place a really comfortable and cozy vibe. Jessica in particular was great to work with. She is chatty, easy to talk to, listens well when it comes to both hair and personal life (that's what a salon is for, right?!), and seems to have the ability to back up her qualifications; a definite plus and rarity at this point! I will definitely be returning to this salon in the next few days for a bang trim, and will try Jessica again in the future. It feels nice to have a salon I can call my own, as I have been seeking in many cities for the last few years. *sigh of relief* read more

Megan, Megan, Megan- this chick knows hair. She is amazingly talented at making me look like a million bucks even though I am broke as a joke! I love my visits with her. She is super friendly and makes you feel extremely comfortable. I have been a client of hers now for 2.5 years. I would never go to anyone else! I highly recommend her if you are sportin' a mullet, look like a ragamuffin, or are tore up from the floor up! She will fix you right up. The receptionist Eddy is awesome. Always super friendly and cute too! Any man that greets me with a smile like his and then offers me wine, is definitely worth writing about. Also, they use UNITE which is an amazing line of products. If you have long hair and want your stylist to appreciate that (i.e. not try to talk you into some "fun and cute" short cut just so they can try out a new technique) - go to Georgia. If you are bored with your color and want to try something new, but aren't really sure what (and don't want the same old 'ombre' look) - go to Georgia. If you want a stylist who will listen to what you want to do and give you all of the information up front (in other words, won't shock you with a crazy price tag at the end of the appointment) - go to Georgia. I almost never book my next appointment before I leave a salon, and I did with Georgia cus she was great. I realize that the more good reviews this girl gets, the harder it will be for me to get in with her...but that's okay. She's good at what she does and her prices are really fair. GO TO GEORGIA. I've been seeing Ginnymae for about 2 years now and I'm finally getting around to writing this review of her awesomeness! I was that person who saw the same stylist for many years and after building that relationship is was VERY hard for me to switch to someone new but I'm very happy that I did. She doesn't double book me so that I'm waiting forever, she gets the job done and my hair always looks amazing. I'm a blonde (a picky blonde) so healthy blonde hair can be ruined by someone who doesn't know what they're doing. What sets Ginnymae apart from stylists is that she's more concerned with how you look leaving that salon because every head of hair is a walking billboard.. VERY TRUE. Ginnymae is a natural, doing hair is just what she's great at. I now know about 10 people that go to her..and that's for a reason. Other than that Audra and Eddie who run the salon are also Fabulous!
