It's a compact "store" tucked in a solid industrial building in Holyoke, Massachusetts and shares space with a commercial printer. If you need a teeny tiny part for a vintage press you already own or looking for a complete tabletop press if you want to get started with a new hobby, you'll find it here. Oh, you need a tool, ink, paper? Maybe a complete set of foundry type of a long-forgotten font style (yes, sometimes there's wood type available too!) or advice on how to do something letterpress? Get here pronto. Run by John Barrett, who is himself a treasure of information and lore, it's always an adventure when you stop by for a visit. Chances you will go home with something special that you didn't know you needed or wanted. The store can be open by chance or by appointment (if you are the kind who plans ahead), so be sure to check the Letterpress Things website for dates and hours when the store 'officially' will be open for business. There's limited parking on the street but on the weekends there shouldn't be any problem finding a space.

The staff members were really helpful in telling me if books were available and where to find them. Although they didn't have many of the books I wanted (very popular children's books), the employees were really helpful. I've also stopped in here just to see if I can find a book or two that tickles my fancy. They don't seem to be able to hold on to more popular books but that certainly isn't their fault! Either way, it's a cute, lovely shop with friendly employees. Definitely drop by here to experience a staple of downtown Northampton.

He welcomed me into the class and quickly caught me up (super appreciated). The class was informative, easy paced and no pressure. If you need a hype man, even if the piece isn't showroom worthy, Mark is your dude! Complimented each student, offered soft helping pointers, and even went hands on to help save some pieces. It is, I imagine, as close as one can get to entering the Library of Alexandria, rolling open the old, the endeared, the treatise of wonderment! Books for all types of readers. I saw books I'd never seen or heard about, which was an amazing quest. They also have a bookclub for inspired readers to enter a lateral domain of conversation.
