I have had 1 appointment so far and have such a sense of calmness. I've read some other reviews and have been kind of shocked. A person who gives up the majority of their whole life, working more than 12-18hrs a day to help women who have been misdiagnosed, never diagnosed and the hope to possibly have children that were once told could NEVER have children. I just want to lead a semi normal life without pain. I don't plan on having anymore children I have 2 boys and I have fostered a young girl and now continue to mentor her today. She is the daughter I've always wished for. My family is full. I now look forward to hopefully leading a semi normal life with the guidance of Dr. Mangal, his staff, his colleagues, etc. . I appreciate ALL that Dr. Mangal has shared with me. Usually you have a "trainer" to help get your body into shape. For optimal success most of us add a "nutritionist. Rarely are they the same person. So I look at Dr. Mangal as my "trainer" and Dr. Mathias as my "nutritionist". I'm very appreciative of knowing that I can visit with Dr. Mathias, GI Specialist in the future. I feel like I'm getting my team in order. If you want the optimal body then why not have an optimal team. Granted their might be some individuals out there that think they know everything about this dreaded disease but then again there is not an "MD" stamp behind their name. As a business owner I understand the trials and tribulations of the day to day, month to month, 1st-4th quarters etc. You hope you can help everybody but for every 50 or so "happy" customers there is going to 1-2 that no matter what you do, you just can't make them happy. I make sure no matter how badly I feel, I apologize ahead of time to whomever I'm dealing with. I usually say, "Let me go ahead and let you know, I think your doing an amazing job but I'm a lot of pain and feel horrible. If you don't know what to do please be honest and lets find somebody that could both help us and optimize our time. Your time is more valuable than mine at this moment because there are more relying on you than I. Thank you for listening and together we will get through this." Although I have yet to have my 1st surgery, I look forward to my journey with Dr. Mangal, his staff, and recommended colleagues. June 9th, 2017 was the first day in a long time, possibly years, that I can say "there is a light at the end of the tunnel". read more

first let me say I went through about 15 miscarriages before I found this doctor and let me say this although he may talk a lot to some people he's informative. I don't mind talk because he's telling me something that may help me if you don't listen then you're trying to rush through what could be helping you now I wasn't sure about this doctor at first either. I wasn't sure if it was the right doctor for me, but want to try something and I went to a lot of appointment and I never followed for some reason I kept coming back that doctor's name something was making me come back and just like him. I'm gonna tell you a story but it's gonna I finally booked him. I came in with a group of girls. We were in a setting altogether, watching a video listening to talk then we were all separated into individual rooms to have . The moment I met Dr. Mangal I knew that this my doctor. There is no doubt that I wanted him as my doctor he's brilliant that right away. Did you know that he helped his father save a cat anyways I went to a few of my appointments, different things like that keeping all of my appointments while dealing with my mother was going through fast I knew exactly the plan of what Dr. had for me and what we were trying to do for my body well, my surgery was , April 2. 2026 Dr. has made available to me even after hours I feel that because of what he's done I can now possibly carry a baby with no problem because if it wasn't for him, I would've never known any other problems that was causing me to lose my babies in the first place thank you doctor. I wish that when I do get pregnant that I could have you follow my pregnancy. you can sense a good doctor him if you have problems and you need answers and you need to fix go to him he fixed my fallopian tubes. He got rid of polyps and etc don't walk run to him let him help you. read more

Dr Mangal doesn't deserve a single star; however, there is no option for zero stars. My husband and seventeen-year-old daughter had to go all the way to Houston from the RGV to see this doctor. He then spent HOURS UPON HOURS over a two-day period talking about himself and "waxing poetic" about endometriosis and a variety of other topics. All of this is bad enough, but it gets worse. He told my husband and daughter that he wanted to do an ultrasound on our underage daughter. She has had several ultrasounds performed by her local gynecologist and her GI doctor, so it wasn't a big deal. However, he and his nurse neglected to mention to my husband and daughter that it was going to be a TRANS-VAGINAL ultrasound. My daughter had NO IDEA what was happening and was very upset and the doctor and nurse never bothered to stop and talk to my husband who was in the waiting room. I will likely be filing a formal complaint and we will not be seeing this man again. My husband and my daughter deserved appropriate INFORMED CONSENT. Please, do yourself a favor and never go see this doctor. read more

It's really hard to leave a 1 star review for Dr. Mangal, because at one time I thought he was a God send for my endometriosis. Dr. Mangal performed a laparoscopy on me in 2008 and I was pain free for 8, close to 9, years. That's amazing. After the birth of my 2 daughters the dreaded endometriosis pain came back, so there wasn't a question that I was going to see Dr. Mangal again. I recently saw him, and some things have changed which is why I'm writing this review. Every new patient has to watch an 80 minute long video of Dr. Mangal talking to someone off camera about endometriosis. Essentially what it is, is Dr. Mangal as a used car salesman selling himself. As a woman who's battled with endometriosis for 18 years, I know everything about the disease. I don't need to watch a video, and in my opinion, a lot of women don't. There is a lot of literature available that will educate you on endometriosis, more so than a video will. When Dr. Mangal walked in the examination room after the video he said, "that was so informative, wasn't it?" I replied honestly, "no it really wasn't." After he performs your surgery he will try to direct you to his colleague, Dr. Matthias. While I understand Dr. Mangal's layman terms with the leaves, and the lake, and keeping the lake clean, I don't believe that everyone with endometriosis has IBS. I saw Dr. Matthias 8 years ago, and he was very quick to diagnose me with IBS. I just feel like Dr. Mangal is just doing this for more money, and it seems a little disingenuous. But I digress. All in all, Dr. Mangal does know a lot about endometriosis, but so do a lot of doctors. You just have to go out and find them. These cattle calls that Dr. Mangal does to watch his video so he can perform surgery and refer you to his colleague left a bad taste in my mouth, to be honest. He is very kind, and he does have a terrific bed side manner, though. read more

I hate leaving one star reviews, but when I saw that the only review of this doctor was for five stars, I had to make sure people knew the truth. (I for one believe every word of the filtered review. I think Yelp's algorithm mistakenly filtered it bc its from a very new yelper and it's her only review so far.) You will wait 6 hours in his waiting room--no matter what time your appointment is. His staff is HORRIBLE. It's not completely their fault--he does these cattle-calls to see as many patients at once (and, i now think this is to perform as many surgeries as possible--for the $$$). Angela, who is either a nurse or a nurse practitioner handles ALL of them. They mix up appointments constantly, and are always rushing to get you out of the exam room. That's right, most of your first appointment is not an appointment at all, but you and eight other women (many of whom bring their husbands) watching videos in a room while Dr. Mangal does something else somewhere else. While giving me my pelvic exam, this doctor took a call on his cell phone. At first I thought maybe it was an emergency---but it was not. Mindless chit chat. My naked vagina, feet in the stirrups, and this guy chatting away on his cell. The last thing, the thing that really gets my goat, is that things (pain, and new horrible symptoms) have been so much worse since my surgery and Dr. Mangal doesn't give a crap. Angela (Dr. Mangal will never call you back. Only Angela) says it's normal for pain to be worse for many months after surgery, which might be true, but it would have been nice to know this BEFORE the surgery. I had no idea how bad it would be. The pain was so different and so much more severe that I almost went to the emergency room. I'm not used to having pain IN MY FEET so severe that I cannot walk on them while menstruating. So new and exciting. A heads up would have been nice. I've been trying to get a hold of him for weeks now, to get documentation for why I've been missing work every month (the increased symptoms which his nurse says, over the phone, are normal but for some reason it's impossible to get a work note stating this) and no dice. Once this guy sews you up and sends you home, he doesn't care what happens to you. That's great if your surgery actually helps, like the person who wrote the other review. I'm very happy for her, as I know how hard it is to have female reproductive diseases dismissed over and over again (please see my review of just such a gynecologist, posted a few years ago). Unfortunately, if the first surgery doesn't fix everything and you need *anything* after your 5 minute post-op visit, tough cookies. One positive thing I can think of is his bedside manner--he is polite. This is a personal preference: but I'd rather have a rude doctor who actually cares what happens to his patients after surgery. There *are* good doctors out there, ladies! They are hard to find, but they are out there. I intend to keep looking. read more

I never leave one star reviews, but there is a time and place for everything. I refuse to have my surgery done with such an unprofessional staff. I have been waiting to hear from them since July and no one has returned my phone calls or emails. I finally get someone today and I'm told that the person I was working with, Angela, is no longer employed there. Gee, I wonder why! I emailed and faxed my documents (In July) but to no avail. If his office is so unprofessional, why would I trust him with my life? Get new office staff or you're going to lose a lot of patients! I am terrified that your staff is going to put in the wrong information for me and I will die as a result. Seriously, if you're looking for a specialist... RUN!+ Update: Today is 9/22 and I get a call to finally get an appointment. Wouldn't you know my information is not in the system? You call me, but none of my information is in the system. I get transferred to the front desk and I speak with Mary. Mary tells me Dr. Mangal's office does everything by paper. Apparently, it's paper they can't keep up with. I haven't even visited the office and I refuse to go. If you choose life.... Choose to Run! read more

This review is LONG overdue! I am truly sorry for not having written sooner. Dr. Mangal is an angel in disguise when it comes to dealing with endometriosis and infertility. It is true that the wait to see him is extremely long, and there are definitely times when it is difficult to get a hold of the staff. Just think about how many people he deals with on a daily basis, and unfortunately, there is only ONE of him. If you can deal with this, then this is the man to go to!!!! I can tell you right now that if/when I need to see Dr. Mangal in the future, I will do it all over again. It doesn't matter where I am living, I will make the trip to see him for treatment. In 2013 I traveled back and forth from Austin to Houston nearly every other week to see this man who treated my stage IV endometriosis. I had been treated by various doctors in Austin, Chicago, and Atlanta. After 5 failed surgeries, I finally found Dr. Mangal. He performed a total of 3 surgeries in 2013. 2 laparoscopies, and 1 laparotomy in July of 2013. My final surgery with him lasted nearly 10 hours, and my husband and I were told by him that this was one of the worst cases of endometriosis that he had ever seen. He advised that it would take my body quite some time to fully heal from the surgery. My goal was for my husband and I to conceive a child. After this surgery, we were going to attempt IVF as Dr. Mangal advised that the chance of conceiving naturally was quite slim to none due to very little ovary tissue being left, and blocked/damaged fallopian tubes. Not to mention that there was no guarantee as to how quickly the endometriosis would return due to how aggressive my case is. **Note** Surgery does NOT guarantee that the endo will not return. Endometriosis is almost like a cancer, it can grow back at any point in time. My husband and I were unable to go through with IVF due to our financial situation. We were devastated, but we left it in the hands of God. On February 14, 2015 I found out I was pregnant, and on October 5, 2015 my daughter, Persephone, was born. I truly and honestly believe that if it had not been for Dr. Rakesh Mangal, this would have never happened. I believe that it took my body nearly a year and a half to heal and allow for my husband and I to conceive naturally. Because of the AMAZING job he did with my treatment and surgery, I was able to have my daughter. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Mangal for endometriosis. He truly gave me my life back- and is an absolute expert in his field. The constant pain made life absolutely miserable- and Dr. Mangal and his team took all the pain away- and I forever grateful. My best to you ~H read more

I had a laparoscopy and then laparotomy through Dr. Mangal for Stage 4 endometriosis. He was my first endo surgeon and my biggest mistake. His practices are detrimentally behind current endometriosis surgery technology. After the laparoscopy, he sealed me up and said I needed a laparotomy (open surgery) through hip-to-hip bikini cut. He gave me three months of Lupron depot to reduce bleeding of the adhesions prior to surgery. The Lupron had horrible effects for me that have lasted years. I told him at the time that I was having joint pain and abrasive/cracking sound in my joints after being on Lupron. He told me it was the changes in weather. He then proceeded to tell me that his patients are like babies and that we needed him to tell them what to do because we did not know any better. He has a serious god complex that keeps him from updating his practices in endometriosis care at all. The Lupron also cause menopausal-like side effects because his office would never fill my birth control on time which was needed to stave off the side effects. He then would have the audacity to ask why I wasn't taking my birth control to which I had to inform him that me and the pharmacist have both been calling and calling. Since the laparatomy (little over 1.5 years ago) I have had numbness between the belly button and the bikini cut scar and nerve pain. The scar tissue also connected to the abdominal wall and left a pooch even though I am 115 lbs. Also, the endometriosis pain was back within 6 months. He said it could come back, but promised at least two years of no pain (god complex). He tried to open my fallopian tubes during surgery, confidently telling me I would be able to naturally have babies. Not only did they close, they were infected soon after surgery and had to be removed in an emergency bilateral tubectomy (not performed by him). When I saw him for post surgery followup, I was complaining about lots of pain in my ovaries (turns out it was the infected tubes). He told me it was gas. I swore to him that it was definitely not gas and was very painful, and he just repeated that he knew better and that it was gas. After the emergency tubal removal, I found out from that surgeon that the chances of tubes ever remaining open after surgical intervention was less than 9%. I looked up information on it and confirmed what that surgeon told me. Dr. Mangal gave a lot of false hope. I would have still tried to have my tubes open, but would have liked to have been given truthful information on the likelihood of success. After surgery, Mangal said the tubes were successfully opened and I could soon start trying to have babies. Nope. I don't know why he even said that since nothing had healed yet. I was eating it up at the time though. I ended up going to another doctor for my next endometriosis surgery. He was able to clear everything out laparoscopically and balked when he saw my laparotomy scar initially. He was disgusted that any doctor would do laparotomy because he hadn't had to do one in decades. He said laparatomies were very old practice. This doctor is honest and listens. Don't suffer through Mangal when you can have someone who won't make you worse or give false hope. After my last laproscopy for endo, I asked my new doc if he got everything, he said "I can't promise you that, but I can promise you I did everything I could and didn't see anything". It actually felt nice to have an honest doctor who didn't think he was god's gift to women with endometriosis. If I can convince one woman on here not to get a laparotomy with Dr. Mangal, I will feel I have helped. It permanently damages you and is an unnecessarily large surgery. For better endometriosis surgeons and advice, please join the Nancy's Nook facebook group for endometriosis. I am at my lowest pain level since endometriosis came into my life and it is because of the surgeons recommended through that group. Actually, my only pain is from Mangal's surgical scar. Don't go with Dr. Mangal. There are better options in Texas that aren't going to leave you with permanent numbness and painful nerve damage like Mangal did for me. They will also leave you with much smaller scars. read more

I went back here due to me not following what he outlined properly. I really feel like Dr. Mangal gave me my life back. I'm in so much less pain than I was before, and he helped me find help with my intense pain i was having, with my the wacked out blood sugar levels, weight gain, and even emotions that my illnesses cause. I will be forever grateful to him and his staff. And yes as other reviews said, you will have to wait, but he is worth the wait. And don't forget that that means he will give you just as much time and care and attention as he did everyone else before you. read more

DR. MANGAL MD is definately God sent!!!! I received a call the night before my appoiontment to discuss my hystory of endometriosis and my recent hystory. We talked for almost am hour, who does this? I am a patient from out of state, he went above and beyond our expectations. I was informed the video I would be watching in the morning would be the new movie, The Jungle Book, just kidding, It was even better! It was the Dr talking about his knowledge of endometriosis, other patient's expeirences, how the GI is affected, and the information to 1 of 4 of the Dr's on his team that works with the GI's affected by the disease of endo. After I the video was over I went down stairs to do more blood work that was more specific to my needs. I have already had a hystorectomy and still have endo taken over my body. I read where someone else said " Endometriosis is like Cancer, it can grow at any time and grow every where." That is very true. Dr. Mangal has calmed our concern down more recently with the possability of the endometriosis having cause cancer. There is no way of knowing the extent of everything until he and the team of Dr's when they all go in. He is building a team to give me reconstructive surgery. This monday I will have stents placed in by Dr. Delhay, who is absolutely AMAZING too! She will be in on the reconstructive surgery also, hopefully taking the stents out at that time. I have already met with every team member(every DR- specialist). I can't thank God enough! I know I am in the best hands! I did an ultra sound the other day and learned that my bowels have seizures. I got to see it! Iwill be placed on care for this. It was amazing because this and other symptoms are being validated. I can remember being in one of the appointments and wondering if I was on candid camera because it was exactly what I have been feeling. Personal, deep things, stuff that I haven't shared with others, not normal things lol. I know so many people have asked me about Endometriosis and Fertility, I want you to know that there is hope! This Dr is world known! All my specialists here are AMAZING!!! I have a Dr who is World Known for sex changes. You may not agree with some ones choices but what that says to me is that the Dr is open minded and very talented. Dr Mengal KNOWS, never guesses, FULLY UNDERSTANDS, TREATS, OVERCOMES ENDOMETRIOSIS!!!! I am looking so so so so so so forward to my big surgery!!!!! Do NOT Hesitate to make your appointment!! He is the real deal! I have seen speacialist, OBGYN, Fertility Dr's from LA, GA, TX, DC!!!!! read more

Dr. Mangal was my third opinion and the only one that gave me HOPE! I live 6 hrs away and I was actually referred to him by my fertility specialist. And his flat out honest opinion was, " I could do the surgery, but in all honesty, I believe Dr. Mangal will do a much better job and he will reconstruct you and leave you like brand new". No doctor was willing to work on me for fear of hemorrhaging to death! And I can say this, "As God Almighty is my witness, Dr. Mangal not only gave me hope, but he gave me my life back"! I feel FREE! I feel great! After 2 1/2 years of misery and pain, after my local ER denied I had anything (after a CT), they performed an appendectomy, and still denying I had multiple masses as per CT report (that I only recently requested)!! Dr. Mangal successfully removed 5 uterine fibroid tumors, largest being 6'' big (grapefruit size), 4 oranges and a lemon... detaching my uterus from my stomach, removed tons and tons of scar tissue and had a partial hysterectomy, SUCCESSFULLY! I MADE IT! I'M ALIVE! BECAUSE OF DR. MANGAL! Yes we watched a video, yes at times there was a wait, but when he had me in a room all his attention was on me and my PAIN! He is very compassionate and caring. The video helped my husband understand that my pain was REAL! After we left he cried and begged for forgiveness... because he had no idea what was going on. Dr. Mangal also called me at home on several occasions to explain his findings and what to expect from surgery. He actually explained my surgery 3 TIMES on the phone because I was in shock, but he was so patient with me and just explained again. He worked with scheduling my appointments to accommodate our schedule and finances. I had a bit of trouble with my insurance on my first visit and he did what was needed to give me 5 days to do what my insurance was asking before he gave me a bill. The girls at the front desk were always so welcoming and sweet. His insurance staff (Claudia) was on the phone for hours speaking to my insurance. And still when I finally got to her she wasn't frustrated or upset, she was so sweet! She told me exactly what I had to do once I got home. And her and her manager even helped us by giving us a map with directions to a restaurant, since we're not from Houston. Just super NICE STAFF! And last but not least, Angela.... she has become very dear to me. She is so nice and has such a big heart. I called her sooooo many times and she always helped me with a kind spirit. After my surgery, as we were getting closer to home, I see the palm trees and I began to cry. I looked at my husband and I told him, "We did it.. Dr. Mangal did it.. I'm coming home tumor free.. I'm alive".... And I've cried so many more times, because I'm so blessed. And if I had to do it all over again, I would do it all the same... I would drive 6 HOURS away to Houston to see Dr. Mangal! My husband made a plaque for Dr. Mangal that reads: Good doctors like you aren't always the ones who have fancy degrees and qualifications. They are the ones who have a big heart and a burning desire to make the world a better place. One patient at a time... Thank You We will be giving it to him this Wednesday at my post op appointment. And I must say, it's going to be a bitter sweet departure.... read more

He is the only doctor you will need for endometriosis surgery. I had a frozen pelvis with stage 4 endometriosis and he had to perform a laparotomy( with impressively little scarring) due to the extent with two other surgeons. His referrals to other GI specialists I was skeptical of at first but won over when I saw how much difference it was making in my life. Yes,your patience will be tried mostly by his staff, but hang in there. They are the absolute best team and the reason for the inconvenience is because he is so busy. Dr mangal and his nurse spend every waking hour in dedication to their patients & there are many like me recommending his services once you've been seen by him. This doctor might call you at 11pm after performing 8 hours in surgery on another patient just to make sure he understands your case history correctly. I would rather face any inconvenience with a busy doctor with tremendous skill, dedication and compassion than one who is flexible and with half his talent. Take lots of notes, ask questions and remind him and his staff, don't assume they will remember everything. This is an extremely busy practice that are changing lives meet them half way and keep your cool and patience as you remember the level of skill this doctor provides can't be found elsewhere. I am confident in this doctors abilities and know that they are doing everything humanly possible to treat each and every patient with the same degree of thoroughness and care. read more

Agree wholeheartedly with the other one star reviews. First, please join the Nancy's Nook (endometriosis education) Facebook group. It is evidence based ONLY and is not a support group. Educate yourself on endometriosis. Choose a qualified, vetted, doctor that has proven success. This Dr. is very old school in his thoughts on what causes endo, his surgical procedures are outdated, and he has history of not getting all the disease the FIRST time. Endo does not come back once excised properly and you do NOT need to be cut open hip to hip (even with bowel and bladder involvement). I wish I knew this the first and second and third time with him. He's really good at validating your complaints/disease and hearing someone do that for the first time after years and years of ignored complaints, pain, etc is indescribable. That's where it ends. MOVE ON! (The CEC in Atlanta, GA is awesome...just sayin') read more

Rude and disrespectful. I was completely dismissed and abandoned. The office is a disorganized mess. No personal attention. Dr. Mangal talks down to patients in nonsense, child-like analogies and does not listen to patient concerns. This practice preys on women that are in pain and seeking answers. read more
