I went to her when…read moreI turned 30 after getting off the depo birth control shot - My body felt very imbalanced and I wasn't having cycles and knew something was off and I knew I wanted a family one day, so wanted to be proactive and check my fertility. She was very understanding of my wishes to try and do things naturally as I wasn't in the place for IVF, and given this being a fertility provider I never felt they were pushy at all, just simply let me know my options which I loved. Fast forward I came to her at 33 just to check up on everything to see if things improved and it did. My thyroid did back back a little high which hypothyroidism runs in my family - It wasn't too high to be a major concern but fast forward 4 months I became pregnant unexpectedly and she did recommend starting the thyroid medicine to protect my pregnancy and I agreed. My thyroid levels are normal and I feel really good again finally. I appreciate her as a doctor to allow me to try to do things more naturally but also letting me know when it's necessary to go the medicinal route. I went to see Dr. Mazen Abdallah in October 2017. I told him my husband and I wanted to start a family but the heavy bleeding, pain, and fibroids were preventing that from happening. He reassured me he was going to FIX the problem by removing the fibroids in efforts to start fertility process. Long story short, Dr. Abdallah sold me a dream! He put a BANDAID over the problem by putting me on birth control to stop the bleeding, gave me a narcotic for the pain and approved me to be on bedrest starting 11/9/17. I had surgery dates of 11/21/17 and 12/5/17 but he canceled it saying it's not going to help the pain--he thinks it's something else going. He ordered an MRI but still didn't tell me "what else" is going on. 12/1/17 Dr. Abdallah said he can't help me and referred me to his colleague Dr. Zied at a completely different practice. I became frustrated, still on bedrest, no surgery, still taking the birth control and over the counter pain medication, and had to start over with another physician to get the fibroids removed! Because of all the time wasted and the horrible communication between Dr. Abdallah and Lauren Reed, Head of Patient Financial Services, my short term disability was denied which left me in a financial bind with the fibroids and pain. Lauren Reed (who is NOT a physician or RN) said it wasn't medically necessary for me to be on bedrest, therefore, she can't fill out the forms for my short term disability. This was such a waste of time and I still have the fibroids! **Think twice before settling with Houston Fertility Institute**

I was overcharged, told a retrieval was not covered the night before bc of a test i failed to do on a specific date (later they fixed the issue, but you can imagine the stress), would receive endless bills ranging from $5-10,000 after procedures (constant calls trying to figure out what it was for), the list goes on...they tell you a certain number and then it grows and changes constantly. The stress you encounter on top of the stress you are already undergoing with all the IVF drugs is really bad. Be prepared to make this your full time job. With that being said, Nurse Bobbie is incredible. She is the best nurse you will ever meet in your life and I really give her all the credit for my pregnancy. I believe all the Dr's are amazing as well, Dr.Zarutskie, Dr.Schutt, amongst others. They are all so detailed, talk to you thoroughly, give you the utmost attention in answering any questions and concerns, the nurses get back to you right away through the portal, the means of communication with all your records are extremely well organized, they talk to you about everything (what to expect, specific options, extra options, different approaches)... I cannot say enough great things. Super professional. I had a friend that went somewhere else and was so jealous of all the extra info i received, that she didnt. Throughout all my many procedures, the nurses in the back with the surgeries were top notch. It really felt like a luxury experience. The Drs and nurses are INCREDIBLE!!! it's so sad that the billing department is so inept and causes so much stress and confusion on patients. After previous experiences at other clinics, including CCRM, where I often felt more like a number than a patient, Dr. Dunn has been a complete contrast. He is open-minded, thoughtful, and persistent. He doesn't give up. While we are still waiting on our success, I feel incredibly hopeful and grateful to be under his care. The nursing staff has also been consistently kind and supportive. I know some reviews mention billing frustrations, but fertility coverage is largely determined by individual insurance plans and carriers -- something that can vary greatly and create confusion. In my experience, the care and compassion provided by this clinic have been outstanding. Infertility is hard. They don't really care if you're successful. It's a money machine. They did the transfer and sent my wife home and basically said "good luck." It failed. A few years later for 1/4 the cost, we tried again at a clinic in Colombia, and it was successful. Completely different experience with patient care. Their genetic testing found an issue with her ability to process Folate. Every day immediately after the transfer, they were checking on her and providing treatment. Completely different level of care.
