Dear readers, do you yearn for those good ol' days when your mama made you sandwiches for your grade school lunchbox? Well have I found the place for you! Cochran R D Store makes sandwiches just like, and I mean identical to what your mama used to make. Right down to the Wonder white bread and the little sandwich baggies! Sure you ain't ganna get mounds of meat filling or tons of condiments, but heck, did your mama put cheese on your devilled ham sandwich? I bet she didn't!
And this tiny dinner ain't no looker either. But it has been around since 1940 something. Seriously, the owner's family has been making sandwiches out of this tiny store for seventy something years! Holy smokes! But they sure ain't puttin' all that money back into the place, because their kitchen ain't any more sophisticated than the kitchen at your house! And the ambiance is something right out my Uncle Jeb's cellar. There are books, old coke bottles, talking politician dolls and gallons of homemade cleaning detergent on the shelves for sale. So the space is rather confused. But I like confused!
And it ain't easy getting' into either. I have driven up to this dinner dozens of times before I finally hit them when they were actually open. And I still have no idea when they are open! And I don't think they take credit cards either.
But sadly I don't critique restaurants based on my personal likes and preferences, I rate restaurants and food compared to what you can get elsewhere for the same price, and while Cochran's is mighty cheap, I can get better for the same price not far away. However, if you really want what you used to pull out of your lunchbox when you were ten, this is the ONLY place you are going to get it without driving to mom's house!

Cochran R D Store is a pay first dinner and does not provide wait service. As such I consider a tip optional and chose not to leave one.
We typically provide 20% or more for 5 star service on the pre-tax portion of the bill, 18% for 4, 15% for 3, 12% for 2 and 0% for 1 star service.
The Food:
$2.50 Ham, Pepper & Onion Sandwich - 3 Stars - Tastes just like the deviled ham you had when you were ten, with a little pepper. And the smattering of ham is only 1/16 of an inch thick.
$2.50 Pimento Cheese Sandwich - 3 Stars - Don't expect much filling between the bread, at most it is 1/16 thick, but what you get is good.
$2.05 Egg Salad Sandwich - 4 Stars - Identical to the egg salad your mom used to make. Assuming your mom was a decent cook.
$3.80 Cheeseburger - 3 Stars - This little cheeseburger is just like the one you had at your last picnic. Only it cost you $4.
Total Bill:
$11.44 for one person including tax. This is more than the average person will spend per person at Cochran R D Store
