My husband and I entered into a verbal and written agreement with Randy Savage, that he would build us a 3,000 sqft home in Prescott for $600k. Our relationship with Randy transpired over a 7 month period, during which we paid him $8700 for soils testing, engineering and building plans. We sold our home in Phoenix, purchased a lot in Prescott, and secured a rental. During this whole process, Randy both verbally and written, promised the contract price would not exceed 600k. On March 26th we received Randy's contract and it totaled $720k. $120k over budget with absolutely no mention or warning the entire 7 months that we may end up being over budget. We are aware that lumber prices skyrocketing is out of his control, however when you hire a contractor you expect that they will communicate and inform you of fluctuations in the prices of building materials. When we told him that $720k wasn't possible for us (which we were very upfront about our strict budget from the get-go), he offered no solution but to go get other bids. We complied with his recommendation and sought to get bids from other contractors. We were told that the drafting person Randy hired, would need to remove her copyright from the plans and give written permission for another architect to make changes to them. She ignored our requests and therefore the plans we paid Randy for are useless to us. Randy has offered no solution or rectification for the money that we are out due to his negligent false guarantees and promises. In hindsight, it appears to be a typical bait & switch move. There are MANY other fabulous contractors in the Prescott area and we wish we would have done our due diligence from the beginning and found a more honest and experienced contractor. We hope this review saves another family the grief and devastation our family has faced since meeting Randy. read more
