I have now used this mechanic about 6x and will continue to do so. While I admit the shop is not…read moreperfect, it is the best shop that I have dealt with to date. Therefore I give it 5 stars. Below are the pros and cons I have experienced. 1. Owner is easy to talk to and always willing to discuss the problem. Has not tried to 'force' repair work that I do not want. Has no issues installing parts I supply. 2. Final cost has been reasonable each time. 3. Time vehicle has been at shop is typically longer than expected. Shop is very busy. Luckily I do not need a car daily - so I have never pushed them if the vehicle needs to stay an extra day. 4. Diagnosing repair, if the issue is unknown can take multiple visits. But for me this has only occurred for 1 issue. 5. Is willing to drive with you to listen to a odd sound or have you show him what you want addressed. 6. Easy to schedule visit - no long wait time. 7. You have to followup with owner regularly to get status updates. He is usually too busy to call you. But he is easy to reach by phone. 8. Is located nearby (walkable) and as a female, I feel comfortable going there after dark (ie safety).

Only down sides: - prices have gone up a LOT as time goes by, but that is all over for garages in the metro area, thus an honest mechanic trumps prices IMO. - depending on the complexity of the repair, most times my car wasn't done on the day promised (he seems to take on a lot of jobs at once, and faced with street parking challenges), so I always assume to leave my car for a few days more and on a week I do not need the car as much. Al once said he respects all customers' cars - no matter how old, he wants you to drive home in a safe vehicle. However, do allow for more time to have the jobs completed.

I had a really bad experience here. My first trip to Hudson Auto & Gas was around 4 months ago when…read moremy coolant started leaking (2010 Volkswagen cc). They fixed it with a brand new radiator hose for $400. Shortly after that, a million different lights started flashing on my dashboard, with the indication that there was an issue with the engine. I brought it back, and they diagnosed my car with a broken intake manifold, which needed to be replaced with a brand new factory made intake manifold from the dealership. Another $1000. After replacing the intake manifold, they called me and said my car was ready to be picked up. I came to pick it up, turned on the car, and didn't even get off the lot before a loud noise started coming from the hood. My steering wheel was shaking and the whole car was bumping up and down. The problem was FAR from fixed and my car actually felt A-LOT worse. Begrudgingly, I brought it back the next day, and get this. They told me that they needed to replace a whole OTHER PART - brand new fuel injectors - for a grand total of another $1400. At this point, I didn't trust their judgement. You fix my car, tell me it's good to go, but then say "wait never mind we completely missed fixing $1400 worth of damages??" Hard to believe . SO, I brought my car elsewhere for a second opinion, obviously, and they fixed it up for just $450, a THIRD of the estimate I had received from Hudson Auto. I feel like they took advantage of me. I don't trust these guys. Neither should you.

Yeah...a bleepin unicorn Seriously - I found an HONEST MECHANIC (due to Yelp). These guys are very nice, professional and fixed my (bum starter) car the SAME DAY. I brought in a starter I bought at Auto Zone, and they were not all "Oh, we can't use that because blah blah upcharge.." he said that there is no warranty on it, so they are not responsible if it breaks - I said that is okay - and he PUT IN THE PART I BROUGHT TO THE SHOP! the price?!?!? Phhhttt - take the number that people should not be paying, bring that price down... now make it reasonable/realistic. that was my price. So if you bring your car here, you will get it fixed in a reasonable time table, they will not feed you a bunch of crap, you will get your car fixed, you will be charged reasonably and you will get your car fixed. they are what people assume mechanics SHOULD be in a perfect world.
