A couple things about this bar. First off, I LOVE a dive bar, and this place certainly fits the bill! No-frills decor, TVs with sports on and a bar with stools on one end, and ordering space at the other. I've seen mention of the bartenders being rude. Correction, I think, they are BUSY! The area I ordered from had a line, and I always got an ice cold beer, so I was happy. Only thing is, I was here specifically for karaoke. First, the (minor) dings: the area is literally in a back room, kinda cramped. No big deal. The acoustics aren't great, but again, I've been to worse! Long rotation? Well, yeah. Unfortunately, you have to sign up on a yellow tablet. Get over it, lots of people want to sing, and I had a blast when I did. My big problem was the KJ announcing on the mic that if you want to be "moved up" in the list, it would take a $20 tip. That's a bit much. I say this as someone who hosted for 13 years in Austin, TX. I've never heard of a host doing this, which knocks my rating down. Would I return? Probably, but I'll just get there earlier! read more

I came here for the 1st time yesterday on May 17th. The bartender was mean and rushed people to hurry up and order their drinks, literally said a few times to people "hurry up and order", he was very rude to a bunch of other females. It seemed he had history with one of the girls and took his really bad temper and rudeness out on everyone in the bar but mainly her and her group. He complained about bad tips, but from my experience, if your service is not good your tip will not be good either. He seemed to be making up his own rules as the night went on and i found that to be weird behavior as well. At the end of the night there was a loud argument between customers and this same bartender, he was very obnoxious, loud, rude, mean, and drunk. I didn't know bartenders could drink behind the bar while working. I don't think I will be coming back here as long as he is there, the company is only as good as its workers and this was not a good experience. I literally made this yelp just to leave this review, i've never felt the need to leave a bad review but this was a whole different experience. Not the best drink specials in town (that'd be Rumors), but damn close and better atmosphere than Rumors. Depending on the night of the week, R&R can be your own personal tear-in-the-beer spot, a nice place to talk with friends over drinks, or fuckin' party central. It's never too crowded or unsavory to handle being there, even on Friday and Saturdays, although it will get no-open-seats kind of packed. Especially on the weekends in summertime, you probably won't find a place to sit if you show up too late. Definitely the best jukebox in town, and all the patrons there seem to have really awesome taste in music. The patio is nice-- there are strand lights and there's even a swing, plus outdoor speakers. It's not damp, smelly and hella shady (like the one at Rumors). There's always something crazy on the TV, too. I've seen everything from Futurama and obscure anime to boxing matches and Monster Garage. They've got a few pool tables and darts, too. This is the perfect bar for summer. Ah, home. Drinks are cheap enough, and the beer selection is improving (nothing fancy, but Shiner on tap now, and I think Widmer Hefe as well). Mainly though, this place has a great crowd of friendly regulars, a pretty good staff, and a nice multi-functional space that lets different crowds spread out and intermingle as they like. Pool tables are pretty easy to get on and they're not packed in as an afterthought. The patio's great during the summer as well. Basically this is my place for a low-drama fun night with friends. It's also where everyone I know goes after an even at the 806 or a show at the Nat. Oh, parking lot sucks. Get there late and be prepared to park on 7th. They don't mix a weak drink, that's for sure. I like the weird trashy enclave where Kitt and James and Spillman and Donald huddled together last night, complete with sagging couch, yards of battered tulle, and strands of Christmas lights. It felt like one of the old hippie/drunkard porches of my youth, but here it was in Amarillo! That pool table seems pretty sweet; I don't know what the set-up is for games (and I don't know why I care, because I am a terrible pool player) and the lighting in the bar is just somehow FANTASTIC. There is also sweet spray paint stencil art up in the ladies'. I was pleasantly surprised. R & R, for all the world, reminded me of the kind of bar environment that dumbass hipsters out in S.F. try really really hard to create and fail at doing. R & R is effortless in its crimson diviness! What a great dive bar in Amarillo! I came the night before a friend of mine got married! We had such a great time! You walk in, and it seems like biker crowd got mixed in with hipster crowd. This makes for an interesting vibe and allowed for us normal people to have a great time with stickin out like a sore thumb. Bartenders were a bit cranky but I wasn't expecting great service at this dive bar. The place reeked of smoke so that's why I docked one star. It's a nicer dive bar. Decent drink specials. Service was good and the drinks were made well. The patrons aren't very friendly. We walked in and everyone just kept looking at us like we didn't belong. Everyone seemed to know each other and maybe that was the reason people kept staring. Definitely a smokers bar. Great drink specials!!!! Pool tables. Dive bar with a decent sized patio. Know what your going for and its good stuff. Don't think you're going to get any kind of fancy drink here though. Bar tender didn't even have a personal "specialty" when asked. Overall good for a drink with friends. Had been there a few times but had no real strong opinion about it. Was sitting at a table on about our third round when the bartender came by to grab our empties, I ordered another beer for myself and a mixed drink for my friend. The bartender in all his bearded glory in a indignant manner stated he was a bartender not a waitress and we needed to order at the bar. Could have just went ahead and took the order and asked nicely to pick up at the bar. I can somewhat understand his side especially being there by himself but the attitude was rude and condescending. This is the only bar that I regularly have a good time at. They generally play good music and their specials are pretty good all week long. Prices are good. They have a pool table which is nice. But like most bars in Texas smoking is allowed inside so it reeks. For people not used to that it can be a bit intense. Besides that it was an OK bar. Not too crowded because I went on a Sunday night. read more

This is my favorite bar in Amarillo. It blows any of the Polk St establishments out of the water.

I was in this place last night and was treated very bad. Me and another person were kicked out of the bar. The person I was with made a joke and the barmaid told him she didn't like his attitude and that he could get the f**k out. I asked if she was serious and she looked at me and told me that I could get the f**k out too. I will not be back and I will let my friends know they should not go there either. If you can't take a joke you should not be working in a bar. There was no call for kicking us out we were not belligerent nor had we caused any problems. read more

First, this bar isn't terrible. The atmosphere isn't bad and the patrons are pretty friendly. My problem lies with the staff. The older woman who works there is pretty rude, scratch that, extremely rude. Another issue I have with this bar is the odd fact that you won't get service sitting at the bar top. You literally have to get up and walk to the end of the line at the well service then walk back to your spot at the bar. I myself am new to amarillo, I've been into R. and R,four times now. None have been great exper. To say the least but lastnight takes the cake. Came in with my boyfriend to have a drink,(this is a long story so I'm going to make it short) basically ordered a drink after it was poored the extreamly rude bartender, thought my boyfriend and I where saying that we didn't like his service (we didn't) but that's not what we where talking about. The next thing I know the bartender is 2 inches from my face screaming at me so loud he was spitting on me. At that time my boyfriend jumped up and befor he could even get two words out of his mouth. I was grabed by the arm ( I have a bruse this morning) spun around and the quote owner was in my face cursing at me I pushed him in the sholder to get him away from me. To my astonshment I look over to see my boyfriend being attacked by two men that supposedly where friends of the intoxicated owner. To make things even more phsyco I'm being grabed by my throat and being choked by the owner of the bar. At one point nearly passed out from lack of air. This is no joke people I weigh 140 pounds and was choked by a fully growen man. I was not violent I was more than happy to leave and spend my money elswhere. After myself and boyfriend mannaged to get out the door and away from these crazy people the owner steped outside and screamed at us that we ( just got served!!) the bouncer working stood and watched in shock along with the rest of the bar. I have NEVER in my life been treated in this manner. I have been a bartender for 6 years never have I seen even a bouncer have to choke a woman. I hope you read this and make your own decision but supporting a bar that treats their patrons this way has no business being supported by the people of this town. _amber read more
