You ever walk in a place you've never been and the music stops and everyone turns to see these…read morealiens who just entered? Well, this is that place. Full disclosure, I can't review the food because we never got to order. Here's why: Stopped at 11:30 on a weekday, maybe 5 tables of people sitting. Sat at the bar. Bartender never made eye contact. Never said "be with you aliens shortly". I told my friend what to order for me as I had to use the bathroom. When I came back, no drink yet. Still no eye contact. Finally after 15 minutes she brings menus over and asks what we want to drink. We order and since it wasn't soda from the gun, she turns and while walking away said "I can't make those. It takes too long. These other people are all in their lunch break". Believe me, we didn't order muddled mojitos and it wouldn't have taken long to make. But aliens don't get lunch breaks I guess. We can afford to kill two hours at a pub and grill. Ok cool, we wait while she brings drinks to the 5 tables (I give her credit, she was hustling) and then disappears into the kitchen for some reason. At that point we realized the aliens were never going to be served so after what has now been 20 minutes + after we sat down, we got up and left. Not before we got some evil eyes like "how dare you leave". If you're a regular, great. You've found a spot. If you're an alien, find another planet to land on and hopefully get served.

Well I'm pretty sure we found our regular stop!!! They were friendly and quick. From the outside it really doesn't look like anything special but the inside is a nice "Northwoods" type bar and Food was delicious. We both had burgers which were cooked perfectly!!! My only problem is I usually ate before I decide of to post a review and was able to take pics.... Sorry haha Side note.... one thing I noticed that must be mentioned is the older lady doing all cooking by herself and That alone is beyond impressive and it was all done in a timely manner!!!! I felt like I was watching gramma cook us all dinner!!! Loved it!!! Ohhh and we got mini baby Ruth's with our check PS I indulged in a couple beers as well.... good beer/drink selection for a small town bar!! Highly recommended!!!

Apparently I didn't leave a review for Nuckleheadz after the one other time I had dinner there, so…read moreI had to leave one this time. I called in an order to go for a four piece cod dinner with seasoned waffle fries and cheese curds as an appetizer. Unlike so many other restaurants that serve crappy cornmeal breaded cheese curds that don't get crunchy and retain too much grease, the cheese curds at Nuckleheadz are true breaded cheese curds that get perfectly crunchy. I wish every every restaurant would serve the right kind like Nuckleheadz does, but I guess that's one of the things that makes Nuckleheadz special. Speaking of special, I LOVE it when the breading on fish has herbs and/or spices mixed in. It just gives the fish a little something extra. The herbs that Nuckleheadz puts in the batter they use on their cod (maybe their other fish too, I'm not sure) are phenomenal. I'm not usually big on cod, but I'm big on their cod because of it. Seasoned waffle fries are the king of all fries so that was a no-brainer. The weekly specials they post on social media often intrigue me and the hangover hash appetizer sounds fantastic (tater tots covered with bacon, nacho cheese, shredded cheese, and fried eggs), so I look forward to ordering that the next time I dine-in on a day that isn't Friday and I can't wait to get the fish fry again on a Friday with the best cheese curds around.

I was able to get out of work early on a Friday and make my way up there to beat the dinner rush. In addition to the Fisherman's Platter, which I got with potato pancakes, I ordered cheese nuggets. The cheese nuggets were not what I was hoping for. I wanted a nice crunchy breading, but instead they had the cornmeal-like breading that I can't stand on cheese curds because it doesn't get crunchy and retains too much grease. I ate some because I didn't want to waste all the money I spent on them, but I didn't finish them. If you want a large fish fry for a reasonable price given the amount of food ($20.95 as of 2/24/2023), the Fisherman's Platter is no joke. The meal consisted of six shrimp, four pieces of cod, four pieces of bluegill, two pieces of "perch", and three potato pancakes when you choose that for your side. The potato pancakes were not homemade, but that's not necessarily a problem. I appreciated getting three of them while most places would probably only give you two. The shrimp was very lightly breaded, almost to the point of not being breaded at all. It was a good contrast to the breading on all of the other items if you don't want everything heavily deep fried. The four pieces of cod were small and were probably the equivalent of two regular size pieces at most other restaurants. The bluegill where the greasiest of all the items and had more of a farm-raised taste than a fresh-out-of-the-lake taste. I put perch in quotations above because I believe this was pike, not truly perch, based on the size, shape, and flavor of the two large pieces. Not bad, but not the quality of yellow perch and not surprising since pike doesn't cost nearly as much as yellow perch. I thought the cod was the best of all the seafood on the plate. I'm not going to go back just for that, but if I happen to ever be out that way again on a Friday, I'd stop for the cod with potato pancakes and maybe pair them with the shrimp to get the contrast in texture. As a note, The Marsh Inn is cash only. They have an ATM with a $2.75 surcharge (as of 2/24/2023) for withdrawing.
