To get a taste of true carioca life, my local connection invited me to a sunset party at Leme beach. We arrived around 6pm to find a party already in full swing. The oceanfront soiree was anything but stuffy and people from all walks of life (mostly folks in their 20s) shimmied to classic Brazilian jams and sexy samba.
Out of an old kiosk, an old man served caipirinhas made-to-order and handed out cans of Polar beer. After 2 drinks, we headed up the rock to the point that directly faces the Atlantic ocean. Cast out just a few yards from the shoreline, a big wave would have made you feel swallowed. Nearby couples made out, young boys fished with their fathers and wanderers strolled the perimeter.
It was a beautiful way to better understand the Brazilian way of life. read more
