Hubby and I were dirt biking in the woods "up north" one fine summer day. We emerged from the woods to forage for lunch. Hubby first spotted the quilt blowing on the breeze. Someone had tacked up a quilt on the porch of a nearby house. Hubby said, "I bet that's a quilt shop." It turned out that it WAS a quilt shop! We rode our bikes over there, and asked if it'd be OK to look around. I never expected to go fabric shopping on a trail ride! I got several yards of fabric for a king-size quilt that I was working on -- from the sale section, even! It's perfect for my project. And they recommended a great place for lunch that was nearby. Quilt House is a Janome dealer, so they gave me a quick preview of the latest Janome Horizon model, a machine designed specifically for quilters. This was the first time I'd seen one with my own eyes. I was grateful that they took the time to sit down with me for a bit to show me some of the features. I want to go back there this summer, and go fabric shopping in my dirt bike getup. (See my profile for photos.) ~~~ Update: July, 2012 Hubby hurt his hand very badly, so we could not ride until July! Since we were out on the Tomahawk trail system and stopped for lunch in Indian River, I absolutely HAD to go see the ladies at Quilt House. Had a great visit, and got some lovely orange/green/taupe fabrics from a line by Moda. (See photos.) This Quilt Shop has some of the best quality fabric around and the friendly helpful staff make it such a fun shopping trip. I often need help picking out colors for my quilts and the staff are eager to help if you ask! If you live or vacation in the area they have classes as well! I have attended many of their Quilt Camps and found this the best use of money, relaxing and fun! read more

The store is named for the owner, Delphine, who has been a long-time quilter. The lady at the register was wearing a name tag. The place was clean, well-lit and organized. The space is sizable -- newly expanded into the book shop that closed next door. There is now a nice classroom area. There are lots of great store samples. Patterns, books, lots of rulers and other quilt tools. High quality hand sewing needles and other nifty notions. The fabric styles are many, and no one type predominates. I saw: Children's and Novelty Prints 1800's Reproduction Prints Traditional Feminine Florals Batiks "Modern" Prints Kona Solids Lots of Moda! Besides fabrics on the bolt, there were charm packs, jelly rolls and Moda "Candy," which is a stack of about forty 2.5" fabric squares, and pre-cut fat quarters galore. There is a table of sale fabrics, all $6/yard with a one yard minimum. I will go as far to say this is one of my favorite spots I've ever been in the world. I was so happy and peaceful here. Our intention was just to grab lunch, and there aren't many spots in Kewadin. We pulled up and I was immediately impressed. Okay, I was immediately squealing with delight. The nursery was so beautiful. Perfectly landscaped with lots of thoughtful touches. We made our way back to the cafe and I once again was giddy when i saw the antique and gift shop. This place was darling. Great mix of items and gifts- local handmade items, pretty things to look at. The cafe had a great little menu and the most adorable patio. I had the Italian sandwich and it was very good. Honestly, they could have served me a pile of dirt and I would have been just as happy. The tranquil atmosphere was the perfect break I needed on our vacation. It provided me with a wonderful memory that I have very much enjoyed looking back on
