Collard Greens and Cole Slaw among the best I ever ate! Same with the catfish - outstanding! Definitely a must try place. Mac N Cheese and Baked Beans were also on point. Service was easy. Ambiance was ok - ordered on a late rainy Sunday evening. Sum up - Gus Fried Chicken is excellent.

We shared some fried green tomatoes and I had 2 piece dark snack and a side of potato salad. My husband had a 2 piece dinner with beans and coleslaw. We also shared a slice of their chocolate brownie "pie". I loved that the tomatoes were crispy and delicious. I would have liked them even more if they'd been sliced thicker. The chicken had a nice spice, very flavorful and juicy. If you like a crunchy coating though, this may not be your place. It is fried but not sure it is battered. The beans tasted like Bush's or some other canned beans--tasty, but not special. The potato salad tasted homemade and my husband enjoyed the coleslaw. The pie was also good, and not overly sweet. We were impressed by the price, we had an appetizer, dessert, drinks, and we both ate for under $40 with a tip! We will go back and I would recommend it if you are looking for a laid back casual chicken dinner with a touch of heat.

It's Shake Shack & it's on the Plaza. That's pretty much the stretch of it…read more But the burgers are generally messy and really good, fries are usually crispy, and the shakes, well, they're just...milkshakes. But it's all about the burger for me. Choose your patty level: single & more? (double up) Cheese, veggie adornments, condiments? Or do you go 'secret menu'? (peanut butter sauce?) The burgers are a MESS once you 'get amongst it', as the British would say, so if you start with it, you might not want to set it down for fear that the bun will no longer have any structural integrity. Hey, juicy burgs will do that, so devour at your own risk. A double patty is gracious plenty and once you top that with pickles 'n stuff, then no one should go away hungry. Inside dope: Google Shake Shack & secret menu for some 'hacks', like the Shack-cago burger (Chicago dog toppings on a burg), sport pepper cheese fries, and more. It's a cheat to the OG hacks of West Coast burger chains, but SS lovers know their stuff, too. Yes, it's fast casual, and the dining room is generally clean, but the service is pretty minimal. Shake Shack is like so many other places in that they have gone to kiosk ordering, allowing you to self-service your order. If you're a newbie or if you just have questions, it's not really easy to get them answered. But take a chance on a burger combo and you will be generally happy with the result. Pricing is kind of steep, but isn't everything nowadays? When you're on the Plaza, there are a zillion places that you could eat, but not a lot of places that you just stop in and get fast casual. YOLO, so enjoy the burger while you still can.

There was a counter yet nobody was there so we all had to stand in line waiting our turn for the kiosk. This particularly made me upset because why not have the option of ordering at the counter available when you are busy to speed up the process? After finally ordering my food. I sat and waited another 10+ mins to get my order forcing me to take my food to go and have my lunch on my drive back to the office. Staff seemed like they were honestly just doing their own thing and didn't care much. I ordered a grilled cheese and Oreo shake. The grilled cheese was very disappointing. It was dry, burnt, and although it was fresh off the grill, you couldn't tell. The cheese was just stuck to the bun. The shake was good. I'd honestly only come back for just that. The place is super cute so it's a shame that my experience was so bad because I would have loved to dine in.

The TL/DR: Believe the hype on the overall…read more The more granular? Get a double patty, because they're smashburgers and they're fairly, uh, smashed. But when you add the standard fixins', then it makes for a good-sized sammich. But still, go for more than one patty. The 'Snack Attack' is their featured special, which is a burg & fries for a reasonable price. The double runs you a bit over $11 but it's a great value. The burgers are freshly made, they're seasoned well, and they're done right. But if you're a French fry type, like moi, then these are a don't-miss. Snack Shack on Johnson does their fries skin-on in beef tallow and the crispiness and flavor come barreling right through. Sensational side or even just on their own. One downside: ketchup isn't on the tables, just mustard, so you might need to request extra on the condiment. Yeah, but that hype. The burgers are good, not amazing. The fries, as previously mentioned, are legit fantastic. You're eating good for less than $15 in a throwback spot with a throwback approach, so that's also a win. The knock might be the organization, as it's just one register and the space is small enough that the 'line' is generally just a small crowd. Toss in some nostalgic photos and other yesteryear looks and this place is pretty close to the diner where Marty McFly first met his future dad. That image ought to cover any photo evidence. Parking is easy and pricing is competitive (have you seen fast food prices? Oy veh...) and the vibe matches the look. Definitely worth a stop, but don't tarry about when you have those fries, because they are a must-eat-when-hot experience. Last pro tip: Snack Shack does $1 ice cream cones 3-5 Monday through Friday as a 'happy hour', and yeah, those cones are worthy of being on a happy hour menu.

We had some time to kill after dropping off our cat at the vet, so we thought we'd pop into Shake…read moreShack and grab lunch while we waited. The store wasn't busy at all, but was clean and pleasant enough. We started placing our order at the kiosk (no human order takers here, as far as I could tell) and, after ordering 2 burgers, 2 Shakes, and a side of of onion rings, plus a bottle of water, AND being solicited for a tip by the kiosk (who exactly is getting a tip here? The kiosk?), our total was $52. FIFTY-TWO DOLLARS. for 2 burgers, shakes, onion rings and water. These had better be the best damn burgers and onion rings I've ever had in my life at that price point. Here's the thing...the burgers were good. Just...good. Not outstanding, mind-blowing....just good. The shakes? Well, if you're going to make that the namesake of your business model, your shakes should be big and they should be amazing...but these were just middle-of-the-road, very very ordinary chocolate shakes. The onion rings were pretty good...a total of 6 onion rings, for $4.50. SIIX. Look, the food was fine, the service was fine, but the prices, especially in today's economy, were just over the top. If you don't mind blowing over $50 bucks for what amounts to slightly elevated fast food, then Shake Shack is probably ok for you....for me, it's just not worth the prices they charge. We enjoyed our first visit, but are unlikely to return as we didn't get what I'd consider a good value for our money. Had the total been $30, it probably would have gotten a higher rating and better review.

You're…read moregoing to get a pretty good burger, maybe messier than other places, but it's going to be full of flavor and topped how you want it. But the brand that expanded westward so quickly doesn't seem to maintain its same zing, at least not at this location. This is a smaller location, clearly designed for more of a pick-up/delivery service operation, and the service definitely represents that. All of the ordering is done via kiosk, which is fine, but it embodies the impersonal nature of casual dining these days. The robotic nature of self-service seems to only lend to the blasé nature of the people that are working. They aren't rude by any means; they're just seemingly disinterested in actual service. Order, find a table, wait a few, and your food is brought to you. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's still a really good burger and there are lots of options. Shake Shack even gives you options for a mushroom burger, where the patty is replaced by a portobello mushroom. Maybe my burger wasn't perfect this time, and the "Parmesan Garlic Fries" were just fries dusted with powdered parmesan, so this visit wasn't exactly knocking my socks off. It was more a representation of the service than the brand. So if you're getting it to go, then you're probably in good shape. If you're getting it to stay put, then don't expect much.
