Dave's Hot Chicken

Okay - so I've seen this place and thought to myself - another chicken place. I figured it's just…read moreanother place that covers the chicken in a sauce- but I was pleasantly surprised. Keven greeted me and walked me through their spice levels - so on the side of using good judgement I went for a medium 2 strip dinner. Made fresh to order it took about 8 minutes to get my order but it was a lovely change from the slightly warm chicken generally found at a fast food restaurant. These chicken strips were huge! And they've been crusted with the flavor - not drenched in sauce. The chicken was moist and delicious as were the seasoned fries. This will become a go to spot for chicken - winning out over any of the more well known places for me!

I dined at Dave's Hot Chicken today and the experience was decent overall. My favorite part of the…read moreexperience is the decor because it's fun, loud and very colorful and makes the space feel energetic as soon as you enter - especially being greeted by Dave the chicken swirling along side a tornado lol saying "there is no place like Dave's!" Overall, it gives the restaurant a modern street style feel with the bold colors and graffiti around. We bought 2 - one tender and one slider combos $14 each along with buffalo style Mac and cheese with three small chicken pieces $7 and the final bill including tip was $42. The tenders were packed with flavor - crispy and juicy chicken. It was perfectly fried and had the right amount of medium level spice on it. However the buffalo style Mac and cheese was cold and underwhelming - three pieces of chicken with hardly any actual Mac and cheese and fries - it was not what I expected. I definitely expected more Mac and cheese haha. Another downside for me was the pricing of the combos/food- it was high because if you look at the combo it's just two tenders with some bread and sauce. Portion wise it didn't really match the pricing for more of a fast food restaurant setup. The restaurant was clean otherwise and the service was decent - nothing amazing as such. Overall, good fast food with high pricing for what you get.

Tried Chick-in-Waffle for carryout and ordered the 10-piece bone-in wings combo. You get two…read moreflavors with this, and I went with garlic parmesan and chicken tikka masala. Wings: The garlic parm was the standout -- fresh, flavorful, and honestly better than my usual Buffalo Wild Wings order. The tikka masala didn't really taste like tikka masala (more like a standard BWW flavor), but it was still tasty. The only drawback was the size of the wings -- smaller than I expected. Next time I'll probably go for the 16 or 20 piece. Waffle: I picked the Belgian waffle with maple syrup dip. It came hot but not crispy, with just a dusting of powdered sugar. Still sweet and enjoyable, though next time I want to try the bubble waffle for something different. Fries: Got the seasoned fries on the side -- good flavor and seasoning, though like the waffle, they weren't super crisp. Still tasty on their own, but I would've loved an option to pick dips (ranch, queso, garlic parm, etc.) instead of just being handed four maple syrups. Extras & Drinks: They also offer mac & cheese or the bubble waffle as side options, plus unique teas and lemonades for $1 more, or milkshakes for $4.50. Prices on extra dips are $0.99 each. Overall, it's a fun and unique concept -- fair-style food in a neighborhood spot. The food is flavorful, not always the crispiest or warmest on carryout, but easily fixed with a microwave or air fryer. I'll definitely be back, especially to try the bubble waffle and maybe some loaded fries or wraps/buns during happy hour (2-4 PM).

I want to start with an apology to Taco Via. The last time that I dined at one of your fine…read moreestablishments was at the Metro North location around 1980 and at that time a close female friend worked there. I might have been given some significant discounts on food during her employment if you know what I mean?! Since the statute of limitations has expired and said female now lives in Florida, I think it's time to come clean some 45 years later, and yes we are still friends. In fact she was the first person that I sent photos of my weekend meal. I was actually surprised to see that Taco Via still existed and made a dash out to Overland Park on a soggy Sunday to see if the food lived up to what my memories hold. I ordered a Nacho w/ jalapeños, a Sancho, and "The Thing". The Nacho is one of the metro's simple pleasures - a corn tortilla covered in melted cheese with a spiral design of the best taco sauce in America and a splattering of diced jalapeños. Simple and simply irresistible. The Sancho is a messy beast with it's soft flour tortilla packed to the brim with everything that you would find in a burrito - taco meat, lettuce, cheese, tomato, and sauce. "The Thing" is a beautiful thing! It is basically a tostado topped with ground beef, onion sauce and a mountain of melty cheese. All three of these menu items would be 5 stars even if you were forced to eat them with Taco Bell sauce, but Taco Via has their own sauce that you can dispense from a pump at the drink station. I found myself sipping the sauce between bites and realized then that I must buy a container to take home with me. I plan on using liberal amounts of it on a taco salad at home tomorrow evening. I hope you forgive me and especially my female friend that forced those "discounted" tacos and sodas upon me Two Score and Five Years ago. With to-go sauce, meal, tax and tip, I spent $25+, I'm giving a well deserved 5 star review and I promise to come back and spend even more money... I hope this starts the reconciliation process, and the forgiveness of juvenile misdemeanors.

I added some salsa to the beef which helped the blandness of the meat. Next time I will request it to be topped with jalapeños.
