Had gone to Quick Chek recently while in NJ. Each time has been a pleasant experience. Not only great gas pricing (NY state is high) but great service at the pumps. The quality food they offered was a nice surprise along with the cleanliness of their restrooms. I'm happy they won the war with the 7/11 that used to be across the street, although when they first showed up, I didn't feel the same way, but they won me over. It's great to have a "mini-mart" and a gas station right on the corner of Pompton Rd. and Hamburg Tpk. The mini-mart has an ATM, you can get some basic groceries, deli sandwiches, good selection of coffee and a sitting area outside. The gas attendees are also very responsive. I guess they just hire anyone. I'm 6 months pregnant & my 2 teenagers asked to get late night snacks. My son wanted a turkey wrap that we ALWAYS get from there. Stopped at QUIK CHEK in Howell NJ on May 16th around 10:00PM to get fuel . I pulled in and shut my car off and noticed the attendant was filling up some cans for a customer the other end of the station. So I waited. When he finished at the other in more than 5 minutes he came over and started waiting on a vehicle that had just pulled up. I rolled down my window and told him that I had been waiting for over 5 minutes. His reply was that I should pump it myself, and then I told him to only give me $5.00 and I would get my fuel somewhere else. This location has adopted a model where the cash registers are all self service, with no cashiers unless you're buying cigarets. This is super obnoxious, especially as you have no idea what to charge yourself for a cup of coffee, and it takes forever to navigate their stupid self service cash registers. Stop N if you need gas, but don't bother going inside the store. It is a very frustrating experience. I am so disappointed in the coffee selection lately. they had Chocolate macadamia and Vanilla Carmel but switched those for Kris Kringle. the now removed that and have pumpkin spice! Every time I go to the Bethpage location I have a problem. The service is terrible. What a pigsty. We're usually in one Quick Check store or another at least several times a week. This location, which opened last week, borders on the campus of William Paterson University, and it looked like the entire college was there when we stopped in. Just wall-to-wall students. College police were patrolling the Quick Chek parking lot, attempting to herd the caffeine junkies back towards the campus. Why don't they just run a shuttle bus 24x7, between the campus and the Quick Chek? Unfortunately, like all Quick Chek stores, they were woefully understaffed. This is particularly true when you walk into any Q.C. on a Friday or Saturday night. Lines 15 or 20 deep at the checkout are not uncommon at their other locations that we've been to, with a single, solitary cashier peddling as fast as they can. But this was particularly inexcusable because it is this location's Grand Opening, and they had to have known the place would be inundated with students. The coffee area was the worst. Drip pans under the coffee and cappuccino machines were overflowing onto the floor. The coffee bar, where they have the packets of sweetners, milk, creme, etc. was a sticky mess, and looked like an F5 tornado had just come through the store. The soda machines were close behind. There was garbage strewn everywhere. But we don't blame the employees. They were clearly outnumbered and under seige. And then we looked across the street, at the deserted 7-11 store. The employees over there must have been lonelier than the Maytag repairman. Not a car to be seen in their lot. But I'm sure the 7-11 was a lot cleaner than this Quick Chek was, at least on this particular evening. Anyway, once the "new store smell" fades at this Quick Chek, I'm sure business will pick up for the 7-11 across the street. Oh, and they have a gas station. Sweet. Now we can get gas at the Quick Chek, and we can get gas at their pumps, too. BTW, their gas(oline) prices are pretty reasonable, but Costcos that have gas stations still got them beat. Place is brand new. Parking lot is huge. Area right there was missing a place for good coffee, breakfast lunch and a variety of other meal choices. Also the gas. I forgot to count how many pumps . Self checkout may be a bit hard at first if your not use to it but there are plenty of staff there to help and keep the lives moving. The sandwiches are made to order as well as some which are pre made. Salads fruit. Any type of drink your looking for. I have been waiting for this place to open. Think it's great. Mine was a bread sandwich...for some reason they leave an inch from the heel with nothing on it every time I order a sandwich there. This time spot on, and inch of nothing but plain bread. The store manager treats his employees like they are animals. He needs to learn how to treat people that work for him, he is very rude and I have seen him make an employee cry in the past. His name is Angelo. I live locally and I'm in quick check at least 3 times a day for gas and food. This man needs to be retrained because you can tell from the looks on the employees faces that they are not happy when they are there. He is also rude to customers.
