EURO TUNNEL Calais Awful restaurant.
Having had a very long day on the coach in
surprisingly hot weather, we were grateful to stop at Calais. I was very hungry
and well aware of the time restraints that were present. Knowing this, I thought
that the best solution would be a 'fast' food restaurant that would assist my
departure and aid my journey. I was pleased to see that at Calais there was a
fast food chain that would fulfil my needs AND enable me
to try a 'brand' that I have never used before.
I was met by a lone unhappy looking female who
asked me what I would like, having been impressed by the large dispaly as I
entered the service area and the fantasic looking picture on the menu, I decided
to opt for the GIANT XL burger, a mighty name for such a worthy item. Salivating
and excited, I waited anxiously for my meal.. (I chose a coffee and some fries
with the meal) , slightly miffed that you have to pay extra for mayonaise,
ketchup and cream .. I waited. I waited some more. I was served
the coffee, sorry, not served, I had the half full tiny cup of coffee slammed
down on the counter in front of me, I actually laughed out loud as the assistant
did this, as it was actually so bad that it was funny!.. I waited I
took my coffee off to the table where I was seated with my wife, I returned to
the counter and waited.. in fact I reckon I waited several minutes, about 10
- 12 in fairness, which makes a mockery of the 'Quick' in the brand name!
Now, I love fresh food, don't get me wrong, but the
wait, especially at a service area where time is of the essence, and there were
no other customers AND they are called 'QUICK' is blooming
hypocritical!
Finally I was served my giant xl burger.. I
rushed back to my table and opened the box, surely there has been a mistake? I
ordered the giant xl burger, what have I got? I opened up the bun from it's
cardboard surround and was met by a sorry looking burger, just full of lettuce,
mayonaise and a 1mm strip of beef, my wife turned to me and asked 'I thought you
ordered the giant xl meal?" . I replied , So did I, there must have been a
mistake. I must have someone elses order, as there is only one burger here and
the picture shows two?.
Grabbing my burger I returned to the counter and
stated that I was sorry but there appears to have been a mistake, I pointed at
the picture on the menu of the giant xl and then pointed to my burger, I
expalined that there was only one burger in my bun, the female shrugged her
shouders, grabbed my burger and looking very miserable disapeared behind the
grill/cooking area. After a few moments, two cooks and the female returned with
my burger, they shrugged their shoulders, now all three were looking mortified,
and opened up my buger, they lifted up the visible slice of meat only to expose
an even smaller slice of beef that was secreted in the bun and impossible to see
unless you disected the burger! They rolled their eyes at me like I was some
kind of imbacile! The burger was taken away from me and I waited. I waited
some more.. I returned to my wife who was eating my chip/fries and we
waited.. after several minutes, I returned to the counter and was served my
giant xl burger, optimistic that the burger would now look like what it does in
the picture, I opened the box only to find that it looked exactly like the
burger I had just taken back, in fact it may well have been the same burger?
With the coach driver now pushing us for time and
my hunger and frustration heightened, I ate the burger, which I have to say
tasted 100% processed, stacked with lettuce and mayonaise to substitute it's
inadequatcies.
I left Calais with a bitter taste in my mouth
both metaphorically speaking and
physically!
A massive
misrepresentation of food.
I was extremely disapointed with the meal provided,
the misrepresentation of the images to what is actually served, the customer
service, the value for money and the whole experience.
This is a modified version of the letter that I sent quick burger, but you'll get the idea.
Having read other reviews it may be just be that I was unlucky, but it it has done no good to my opinion of the French and their attitude towards customers/English.
You may be ok when you visit but this is an actual occurance that happened to me, no exageration etc.
I won't be eating there again. read more
