Boomer is simply the best around, I just can't recommend him enough. He is so quick to respond to…read moreemails, and always send thorough, thoughtful responses. When he quotes completion times and prices they don't change, he finishes projects on time (and surprisingly quickly). He has given me great advice over email on synths I am interested in, and his communication is alway kind, detailed and candid. I should also mention he does great work, ESPECIALLY on vintage Roland gear, apparently he worked for them for a while. Next time you need a synth worked on or serviced, give Boomer a try, you really won't be disappointed. Thanks Boomer!

Huh..well, I certainly never thought I'd be writing a review like this. I'm not even one to…read moretypically leave a Yelp review. I'll start off by saying I decided to take my business to this shop because of a recommendation from a good friend who had a great experience getting their synthesizer serviced. My initial phone call was pleasant. I'm unsure of the guy who works up front at Future Music but this phone call, dropping off the synth and picking up were all the same dude and he was nothing but cool. Really nice guy and good but quick conversation. Essentially I was having an issue with a Juno 60. I got in contact over email with Boomer. All initial correspondence was cordial. He seemed like a nice guy and understood I'd be driving from Bakersfield (2 hours away so a total of 8 hours to drop off and pick up). I dropped it off. He said it was finished and let me know the cost. I Venmo'd him immediately and drove down to pick it up the next day. This is where the silly problem started. I expected to receive some sort of work order/receipt showing what had been replaced, etc. You know.. what you get any time you have some sort of work done on an instrument anywhere ever? See, you never deal with Boomer (LA Synth Co which works alongside Future Music) in person/directly.. just over email. Which is fine. That's the way they do things. After I got home, tried it out and the synth is good as new. Great. I would like a copy of what exactly was done just to keep it for my records. So, I email Boomer this exact message: "Hey Boomer Picked up the Juno yesterday. Thanks so much for the work you did on it. I was hoping they would give me a receipt/work-order, itemizing what you had done. Just to throw in the case and keep for my records. Is it possible for you to make something like that up and send it over to me? Thanks again. So stoked to have it in great working order." of which his reply was: "Yeah. It will be a few days." That was Saturday November 21st. Today is Tuesday December 1st and I hadn't heard anything yet and just wanted to check back in. So, I sent this email: "Hey Boomer, just wanted to check in about this. Thanks a lot." of which his reply was: "You've now pissed me off. I'm one guy. I'm insanely busy. We just had a holiday. I have a life outside of work, too. You're on my list, but not at the top. Now I'm done with you cause this is entitled and annoying. Make your own." Uh, what? This was such a ridiculous way to reply when all I was doing was simply inquiring. Boomer, my man.. I'm sorry if you're overworked and overstressed. Your skin shouldn't be nearly this thin to not be able to accept someone emailing twice with such a simple request. I did send a reply but my email had been added to the dreaded BLACKLIST so I'm not longer able to contact him directly. So, to summarize.. the shop is cool. They seem to have a ton of cool gear. They obviously stay busy enough to be able to treat their customers like sh!t because return business must not mean much to them. This was such a bummer. I have lots of friends who are looking to get gear fixed up and was hoping I'd found somewhere to send them.

My Muramatsu flute desperately needed an overhaul. When one of keys completely stopped functioning,…read moreI knew it was finally time to take her in for repairs. One of the famous local music shops confidently referred me to Kyle Stolz, mentioning that he used to work on flute repairs for them, among other instruments, before starting his own business. Since my instrument is a higher end model, I was nervous to take it to someone not particularly certified by Muramatsu. So I did my due diligence and also contacted a certified Muramatsu repairman as well as the Flute repair shop that has the word flute in its business name, the latter of which is also not Muramatsu certified. The Flute shop didn't have an appointment in the next week and said that the repair would take 1-2 weeks, so a total of 3 weeks without my instrument. The certified repairman was available sooner, but unlike Kyle, I would have to take my flute to him at his home and then come back and pick it up. Kyle has a fully-loaded, incredibly professional van set up and he comes to YOU. Both the flute shop and the certified repairman quoted me a MUCH higher price than Kyle, without the added convenience of coming to me. The difference in price was jaw-dropping. On top of this, Kyle finished the repair after a couple of hours, right there on-site in his van. So I had my instrument back to me on the *same day*, it is mind-blowing how convenient it is, especially if you are in a pinch and need your instrument repaired ASAP. Kyle deftly disassembled my instrument and explained to me what work needed to be done. My flute had serious corrosion so I decided to let him fix and clean up everything. Not only did he overhaul it, he also polished it (!) and now it looks brand-new. Would the flute shop or certified repairman do this, included in the price of the repair? NOPE. Kyle takes instrument repair to the next level, I am absolutely shocked in the best way possible. He served our country and traveled all over the USA doing repairs for the various military bands. He has lots of experience with many different instruments. Kyle is not only a skilled repairman, but also very kind and extremely intelligent. His repair van is super cool, incredibly organized, and had all the tools he needed on hand, including all the industrial polishing equipment. He even took the time to level his van on the street before calling me to bring it out- truly a professional. I am so grateful I was referred to Kyle. He saved me so much money and time. I will always bring my flute back to him in the future and I cannot recommend him enough.
