The acoustics are horrible. You cannot understand anything they are saying. Would not return until that problem is remedied.

The show with Tom Arnold felt intimate, like sitting in someone's living room listening to a friend tell unbelievable life stories. The lighting was pretty low, but it honestly added to that late‑night storytelling vibe. Tom shared personal memories and oh‑my‑gosh experiences that had the room laughing hard. Even more impressive, the 66‑year‑old comedian is recovering from breaking his back after falling out of bed and still managed to have the rest of us nearly falling out of our chairs. That's dedication. The two‑drink minimum was fine, but at those prices the drinks should've come with a souvenir ice cube tray and a thank‑you card. Gratuity was already added--then they suggested adding more. That part wasn't funny. Still the staff was outstanding! Still, hats off to Tom for pushing through his current situation and delivering a memorable evening.

So halfway into the opener, waitresses accidentally spilled a few drinks on me. Some liquor got in my eye and burned for about 30 minutes. A few minutes into the headliner's set, he asked something about being married. My wife and I raised our hands and said we had been married 21 years. While going back and forth with the comedian, a guy with bad breath told me to stop or he'd kick us out -- for talking to the comedian (when he was talking to us). At this point, I was one beer in and had just been served my second. After a few minutes of him just staring at us (like I took away his food stamps), I got up, told him I wanted to speak to the manager, and sat back down. After a few minutes with no manager coming to the table, I turned around and saw the manager standing in the back. I asked to speak to him and we went to the front. I explained the two situations, and it looked like this liberal arts major kid "manager" didn't even care. I asked who owns this club and he just said to get out. (Wow, that escalated quickly.) Then they said they would throw me out... for what -- asking who owned the club?

Gem of downtown Albuquerque, the Kimo theatre is home to Burlesque, live theater, comedy shows, and the silver screen. Yes. All of these things. I love when they do film festivals. Nights upon nights of old film noir and classics. And every February, Southwest Burlesque makes me want to quit my job and become a dancer. The Nutcracker every December. Ah, the memories. Literally, my only complaint is the seating. It's very old school. Which is fine, but those comfy new-fangled seats in the new theaters have me (and my tush) spoiled. Hint - restrooms are on the sides down a hallway that doesn't seem like it belongs to the building.

Mayor Berry had a real silver screen installed as well as new carpet to compliment the well preserved vintage space. The Kimo is a destination for all lovers of the arts. It is host to book readings, poetry, and movie showings. For tonight's event, we were treated to Buster Keaton's "The General" with the Alloy Orchestra playing the score live for just $0.50 per ticket with free water, popcorn, and cake. (Concessions typically not included in movie ticket pricing.) The movie was outstanding and the Alloy Orchestra was a once in a lifetime experience. The Kimo has so many of these incredible events that people need to know more about. I know our family will be attending more of them!
