I absolutely love and feel so blessed to have Dr. Mary Toland as my primary care physician. It was…read moresad to see a former friend leave Huntsville, but it took that move (because her family were patients of Dr. Toland) to open up some wiggle room in her practice to allow my husband and me a spot, under her care at, at the time, Baily Cove Family Physicians. I think I've been going there around 13 years, probably more. The Huntsville Hospital name change really did not impact my experience in any way. No problems getting appointments or changing appointments and her staff are *never* rude or anything but kind - in every dealing/appointment that I've had with them. Dr. Toland is the most compassionate, caring individual you will find. She really listens to you, she understands women's issues and concerns and "cuts you some slack"and is never judgmental. She understands if life gets in the way and precludes some of the better health practices that we all strive to adhere to and is so reasonable and kind. As far as appointments go, she runs on time probably 99% of the time. She goes over your bloodwork in painstaking detail and answers and explains thoroughly any questions you may have. Refills are easy to obtain and they always have the lab paperwork where it is supposed to be, in advance of any appointments. I'm not sick much, but when I am, she will try to work me in and the nursing staff are all kind and compassionate, too. I almost hate to "go on and on" about Dr. Toland, because I do not believe she is accepting new patients, don't quote me, I could be wrong. There are other doctors on the staff at HHPC, I've never seen anyone other than Dr. Toland, so I cannot comment on their care. I'm sure they are as good as she is, based on the fact that there is no turnover and everyone there seems happy. Thank you, Dr. Toland! You make physicals and doctor's appointments a pleasure!

I would like to register my EXTREME displeasure with the staff at the ER of this facility. I was…read morethere for a medical emergency stemming from a bout of pneumonia and RSV, compounded by an underlying autoimmune disorder that affects my lungs called pulmonary sarcoidosis. As I was admitted very ill, almost unable to walk, my son took my phone from out of my hand against my wishes ( I was physically unable to stop him) which he shortly thereafter used to gain access to my electronic door lock, turn off my security system, and rob my house of all valuables . Instead of doing the sensible thing and getting my phone back from my son, a male nurse there whose name escapes me believed my Actively Hostile ex wife and my thief of a son against the the evidence of their own eyes and very much against my wishes. Under threat of police action, WHILE IN THE ER STILL, I was forced to go to Decatur West mental hospital. My son and ex wife weaponized my mental health diagnosis of bipolar disorder obtained in 2008. I was at Decatur Morgan West for about a day, before being released after being recognized as not having a mental episode, but being severely physically ill and nearly dying not days before. The level of incompetence in almost outright hostility experienced by the staff there by me is utterly offensive. This goes beyond medical malpractice to just straight up mean or even evil. I mean who does that?? 'oh this guy presents with life threatening issues, better get him UNDER POLICE THREAT to the local mental hospital '. What moron made that decision? It's the male nurse on staff there , or at least he was the one who communicated that to me. I'm sure others were involved, as I'm sure, they will all pass the buck and point fingers at others. Regardless the entire facility, the entire ER staff, failed me utterly in that moment. Signed, a VERY displeased Dr. JP Thornton, DBA Pic 1 is some blood I spit up a bit over a week ago. Pic 2 is my front doorbell cam sliced out of it's mount and left , conveniently by some blood I leaked.

I was sick. You know the kind of sick that only happens on Saturday when your PCP…read moreis closed for two more days. Sick-sick - the kind that you just know shouldn't wait until Monday. I had an incessant cough - so bad that I was having trouble catching my breath. (Why I didn't tear my husband away from his football game and take me is still a mystery.) I hadn't been to urgent care since the middle of Covid. I figured I might as well go back to the last place I had been. They were close and in the past, quick. I got there to find them closed with a homeless person passed out in front of their entrance. Now where to go? I've had more than my share of lousy service at AFC so I continued to look. I saw Approxie care on the list of sites. I was a good 10 miles away but I at least knew where it was - I had received a (drive-thru ) Covid test there. I arrived to find one other family in the waiting area. I grabbed a mask, quickly checked in and sat in the corner to distance from the others. Check in was easy, you know the drill - hand over your cards, fill in the papers on the clipboard and have a seat. No different from most any medical encounter. I waited no more than 10 minutes when I was escorted into the exam room. A young girl - high school young - took my vitals, asked me about what was going on and swabbed me for Covid and the flu - pretty routine. In the back of my mind I wondered how a teenager was qualified to work there but she told me it was her third year in the medical program at Bob Jones. Later when I thought about it, I was impressed that Approxie was actively supporting our young people in their career paths. Dr Shah soon came in, listened to my chest - he didn't need to ask me to cough. I'm sure had heard me through the walls. He asked a few questions, listened to my chest and diagnosed me. Apparently my symptoms were textbook for walking pneumonia. It was just a gut feeling, but Dr Shah's bedside manner immediately made me trust him. He did do a chest xray to reassure me as bronchitis and I are no stranger. He prescribed a breathing treatment and antibiotics and sent me home with the standard rest and hydrate and like that, less than an hour after I entered the building, I was driving home. The only issue that I had was that Dr Shah told me to do the breathing treatment twice a day but my orders and prescription both said once a day. By the time I called the office to confirm, they were closed. The medicine had me feeling better in a couple of days though 3 weeks later I still have a cough. Approxie definitely isn't the most convenient place to my home but if and when I or a family member needs urgent care, this is the place we are coming too. I really can't say enough about the care I received.
