I've been coming to Queridas since my preteen days. My mom, sister and daughter all come here with me. It's literally about 20years of coming to this salon. I plan on coming here forever ever. I absolutely love this place. Flor and Arelis are the only two people I trust with my hair. Anytime i come here I know I'm going to walk out with my hair looking great. I always get a deep conditioner when i come, rollers and a blow out. They have plenty of dryers so multiple people are getting their hair done at once. One thing i also love about this salon is the prices. They are reasonable and fair. I highly recommend this salon. Ask for Flor. You won't regret IT. read more

A few weeks ago, I saw Flor for a blowout. It was definitely the worst blowout I have ever received. She was very rough with parting and detangling my hair. It made me realize I should just either go to a Black hair salon where they cater to textured hair or invest in a good quality blow dryer, save my money, and do it myself. I was given a suggestion to go to this salon by in law but unfortunately, it wasn't good at all. I just wanted an even bob with straight ends. The hair stylist I have no clue what her name is, she has blond highlights over brown hair. She may have really nice hair but her skills were definitely way off. My bob came out with layers instead. My ends were choppy not straight. The techniques she used on my ends weren't proper, it was something my mom could've done for me. She didn't take her time to do my hair even though there wasn't a single customer she needed to attend. She blow dryer my hair but it was super hot and it scalded parts of my head. After I went back home, I realized that the bob wasn't even at all, one side was longer than the other. Never ever going back here again. I just wanted to change the rating to one star, but I could only do it by reposting my review. Definitely does not deserve beyond one star. After 4 years of self care and a new amazing stylist which I will maintain privacy for my hair grew long again, but no thanks to this unprofessional salon that butchered it years ago. Following up my January 2019 review with additional feedback since a Yelp reviewer liked my thorough review and had additional questions privately. I am updating my review for Querida's because I believe in providing honest feedback of the places I go to. Apparently I am not the only long term client who has noticed significant changes at this salon for the worse. I will NOT be returning to this salon ever again. Altagracia is the best stylist, she was MY stylist for 10 years and unfortunately she does not work there anymore. A talented woman like her was bound to move on and she did, she has her own salon in the Dominican Republic. I miss Altagracia very much and no one can match the skills that Altagracia has. I have tried other stylists in this salon after Altagracia left in February 2018 and since Altagracia left the quality of my hair has DEEPLY declined. The owner's sister Jackie (she had dyed blonde hair medium length hair) is the one who messed up my hair and I did not realize right away until allowing her to do my hair a few times at the end of 2018 and it would only get worse after each time I had did my hair with her. She was the only one doing my hair so she is the one that gets the fault. She was also the one washing my hair with harsh chemicals against my permission and the chemical smell was obvious. Avoid her unless you want your hair destroyed. Not sure if it was intentional or she genuinely had no solid experience with hair care, but she caused destruction to the quality of my hair very quickly that took me many years to repair because I had to keep cutting off the chemicals she placed in my hair from the scalp. Suing is a waste of time because it is hard to prove, but it is certain that everyone that intentionally does something bad to another receives the same misfortunate at some point in life. I will start with the wash. I have NO IDEA what they are washing my hair with, but it definitely isn't a good quality shampoo, heck it does not even smell like shampoo. It smelled like chemicals similar to a perm or relaxer. I know exactly what that smells like because I went to a vocational high school, took up Cosmetology and dealt with hair care a good majority of my life. If that is what they decided to do they are very wrong and unprofessional for that. Placing products in my hair that I did not ask for is a turn off. My hair does not need these harsh chemicals that is why a lot of my hair fell out in chunks all over and looks super lackluster. I am not sure if they are mixing those chemicals with conditioner, but it seems that way and smells like it. All of this foolishness started after Altagracia left. Altagracia was always a professional and I never smelled chemicals when she did my hair for 10 years. Literally after she left, the salon used low quality products and you could smell it. The containers that they use have no labels either in the wash area. BRING YOUR OWN SHAMPOO IF YOU GO. My mother cannot come into the salon as often, but she has done her hair at this salon numerous times over the years. She went a few times at the end of 2018 as well for some pampering and did not like the service. She was treated terrible and that made me furious because my mother has been going to this salon for a very long time just as I have to be discarded as if she is a new client. Also she wanted her hair colored jet black and her hair was dyed a dark brown shade instead. She arrived just before 11am on New Years Eve and left the salon close to 4pm. Numerous people who came after her left BEFORE her. She had her hair washed, but her hair was not set right away. Meanwhile other people who came in after her had their hair washed and SET while she waited with wet hair. This such a huge disappointment for me because I had been going to Querida's for 10 YEARS, but after seeing how horrible my hair has gotten over in such a short time I refuse to return and will not waste my time recommending this place to others. I feel like they are ruining peoples hair on purpose to get people to return to "fix it" and that will only turn people away. Now I am going to continue to focus on home hair pampering to restore it. New Years Eve was my last visit at Querida's. The lack of professionalism, skill, and attention to detail is what made my decision final. If you wish to have the quality of your hair go down then go here. I do not support this place anymore. read more

Love Flor, I'm natural and she does a great job with my wash and set. I travel from Brooklyn every two to three weeks to see her.

I used to go to this place for blowouts back in the early 2000's and would see Lin, she did a good job. I went back a couple weeks ago and my experience was awful. I don't remember the stylist's name but she's been there forever. I asked for Lin originally, but she passed me off to this person cuz she really didn't want to be bothered with blowing out thick curly hair. How do I know this? I understand Spanish, but they don't know that. Anyway, I asked for deep conditioner ($10 extra) prior to blowout, she slaps some awful smelling garlic concoction in my hair without even asking me and simply told me it was good for my hair. Then she stuck me under a dryer that was so hot I have a burn and scaling skin on my left ear which didn't really come to light until a day or two later. The blowout? Awful. She ripped, pulled, yanked and repeatedly scorched me with the blow dryer. She was lazy about it, kept stopping and walking away, didn't re-wet sections/ends that had air dried while she worked, instead she pulled the brush thru dry ends, making them frizzy and burnt. She was relying on the fact that she'd 'fix' them with a flat iron, for $10 more. The trim I was forced to have cuz she thrashed my ends so badly, THAT was an extra $10 as well. So for a blowout on medium length naturally curly hair w/ deep conditioner, I ended up paying $75, before tips. Because she had done such a terrible job, she ended up scorching my hair so it smelled burnt and it frizzed instantly. I had to slather it in serum for the week to smooth down the fried cuticle, dropped $45 on Moroccan oil hair masque to repair the damage and I went to another salon a week later for my follow up blowout, and what a difference!! (Carmen at Eddie Jrs Salon on Madison Ave @ 108th st is AWESOME). It's a shame that a client who has been going there off and on for years, is treated so poorly. Yes, I have thick curly hair and I know a blowout is work, but you're getting paid to do a job as a stylist, a blowout is a standard basic procedure, and I tip very well for the effort. I will never return to this place again, except for when the owner, Querida, returns, and only to tell her in person how crappy my experience was. When I asked for her then, I was told she was out of town. Side note -- many Dominican salons prefer if all the women have rollers and sit under dryers, then stylist can quickly hit the hair with a blow dryer/flat iron at the end. It's quick, efficient, cost effective cuz you can have many people drying at the same time, I get it. But blowouts, they run from that. And if you have naturally curly hair, they try to convince you to get a keratin treatment, which essentially ruins your curl pattern, like a relaxer. Point is, you're a 'professional' stylist, act professional and be a stylist who takes pride in your craft. Oh and btw, they talk shit about you in Spanish if they think you're a gringo, pero ellos no saben que hablo español con fuidez. Adiós. read more

Luz has been doing my hair for 3 months now and it has never been longer and healthier. I'm a regular for sure!

Luz is fabulous! Querida came up on my search for hair salons after my regular hairdresser started slacking off and thought I wouldn't notice the terrible "layers" she gave me; I have terrible luck with hairdressers because as soon as I find one that I love, they start taking advantage of the fact that you'll keep going back to them. But I'm so glad I found Luz and Querida beauty salon! I walked in around 6 pm on a Friday (I think they close at 7) and Luz took me right away. There didn't seem to be a line but I hear they're pretty busy on Saturdays so I prefer to go on Friday. Luz is one of the few ladies that speak English so we didn't have a problem communicating, me in my basic high school Spanish and her in broken English. She washed my hair thoroughly, re-layered my hair, set them with rollers and under the dryer I went for about 30 mins. After my hair dried, she blew it out and styled it wavy just the way I wanted and finished it off with some hairspray =) So to recap, I had a wash,cut,and style (long hair) for only $30!!! Querida and Flor are the best Hair Stylist. I have Super Curly and Kinky Hair and as a person who has natural hair, they never had asked me once if I want to relax my hair, which is the most common thing that a Dominican Hair stylist would say to you as soon as you walk in that door. My hair always look beautiful and they don't apply too much heat and they don't overdo things. Thier prices are really good and they don't keep you waiting under the dryer for a long period of time just to kill time. This is a great hair salon and the only salon that I get my hair done. I been to this place twice. The first time I went, Luz did my hair. She did a good job and did not burn me with the blow dryer. I went there the other day and Luz was not available. So I allow Flowmaria to do deep comditioner and blow dry (BIG MISTAKE!) First of all, she was sloppy when she shampoo my hair. Water was going down my back and she splashed me in the face so much I felt like I was being baptise. Second, she burned me a few times, I still have burn sensation in my scalp. I don't want to hear that it's common for customers to get burn by the blow dryer. When Luz did my hair she did not burn me. No every domincan woman burns people heads off. I did not feel comfortable and relax during the time I was getting my hair done. Third, Flowmaria did not give me a proper consultation when I asked her questions about hair care. Usually hair stylist would suggest what to use and how to manage your hair. It was pulling teeth to get her to explain as her answers were vague. And Fourth, she charged me more for the service. When I was there 2 months ago, I was charge $25, now She charge $30. Does this mean, she's going to charge me $35 the next time. $15 wash & set. Awesome job. Luz or Maria do my hair but all the ladies seem to do a fine job. Minus 1 star for the tiny shampoo lady. She gets you soaked, scratches to hard in only one spot, hair never feels clean & she doesn't do rollers. So if your hairdresser isn't ready for you, you will wait with wet hair. Lesson learned, just wait for the hairdresser to wash you. read more

I came here from SoHo on a Thursday night after work. They take their last walk-in at 7, and I walked in at 6:45. Luz (got her name off the business card on my way out) took me to be washed immediately (hadn't even taken my coat off!). Skip past the nice warm, vigorous wash, deep conditioning, quick roll job--and I walked out with one of my best blow outs ever. If I didn't live so far (Jersey City) I'd make this my new spot! But I will definitely come here if I'm ever in a pickle like I was tonight. read more

Altagracia is amazing! She has a great hand with cuts and with color she is a master! I have been a frequent patron at Rita Hazan, Pierre Michele, Bumble & Bumble just to name a few. She colors my hair and highlights my hair without damage. She also relaxea my hair. When I have gone blonde from dark brown she did it gradually and it was golden not orange, brassy or red. My undertones are red naturally and she has managed to get it golden blonde. As far as cuts, my hair has grown tremendously since just allowing her to cut it. It went from shoulder length to past my bra strap into the small of my back. I am currently natural brown with caramel highlights. I brought her a picture of lea michelle and she mirrored it. I showed her jessica chastain bangs and she did them perfectly couldn't be happier. When i lived in miami I would fly up to get my hair done with her. Now I have my friend from Arizona come up to cut and color her hair with Altagracia too. Its been a yr now she is flying up in 2 weeks. My only issue is the obnoxious loud music the owners play. read more

First thing, this place is cash only. In the header of the company review it says they do; they do not. I went early, because I know how salons get on a Friday evening. I wasn't sure who to go to and my Spanish is terrible but my bf lives close by and I really didn't want to trek to Washington Heights to my regular masochist. They all seem to be really good, though I noticed the tall, chubby, lively one had the most customers. She's pretty good and pretty quick. I feel like they're less friendly to non-Spanish speakers but at $15 wash and set on a Friday, they can be as mean as they want. I loved my hair. They need some newer blow dryers though...they almost all had tape on. Still, it got the job done. read more

I've been coming to Querida on and off for the last 5 years and it's truly the best I've experienced. The only con to the salon is that you have to get there SUPER EARLY (not kidding!). Other than that, I've never had an issue and have waited maybe, 20min for a chair, which was while I had my hair shampooed. The only thing you should worry about is telling them you only want X amount of hair cut (some of them get scissor happy). Other than that, they're the best! read more

I literally plan my haircuts and colour, etc around my trips back to New York as I won't trust any other soul with my hair.
