Passed this on our way to the coast and I set a reminder to make sure to stop on the way back…read more I love that it's local and there's something for everyone! Loved the options of honey, syrups, jams and of course hazelnuts. With the warm weather coming, I'm excited to grab some flowers and starter veggies! If you love local meats, they have that too. We grabbed some New York strips to enjoy for dinner with a bundle of asparagus.

On my way to finally check it out, I passed Bernards Farm, and was smitten before even entering. They have the cutest shop set up in their giant white old-fashioned barn. Fresh floral arrangements and dried wreaths line one wall. Displays of in-shell walnuts and filberts overflow, along with roasted and chocolate covered varieties of that most delicious of Oregon nuts, even brittle! You will find vegetables and an assortment of leafy greens, frozen berries, meat, granola, dry beans, honey, herbs, and other plants and flowers. They offer seasonal fruit, and I was delighted to spy glistening garnet strawberries. I thought I was getting them for a steal at $11 for three pints, until I observed the two customers in front of me carrying giant cardboard flats of berries that were getting weighed and priced around $6. I then noticed the chalkboard behind the register advertising U-pick strawberries at $1.50lb. That's a deal for grocery store berries, let alone gorgeous fresh-picked ones! I was happy to pay my $11, but you best believe I returned as soon I finished up those lovelies and picked my own. There were plenty and it only took a half hour to gather six pounds! Each time I have checked out the cashiers have been sweet as pie. They even shared which strawberry varieties I'd picked (Sweet Charlie and Albion). And since Bernards is not quite in the thick of all the other farm stands, they have never been too busy. Their prices seem a little lower as well, but regardless the quality is excellent, and worth whatever they ask. Bernard's Farm is about ten minutes from my new home, and it truly cemented the feeling that I have chosen the right spot to settle. While I hope to grow much of my own food, I will absolutely be stopping by Bernards for lots of extra goodies (especially the chocolate covered hazelnuts which I just can't stop eating!).

I was here for apples, and they had a ton of options. They were very friendly and patiently explained the process. You fill buckets and then pay at the end. They have pull carts so you can move multiple buckets around. There are so many varieties of apples! There is a chart at the entrance to the orchard with the names and what purpose is best for each kind of apple (eating, baking, applesauce). They also let you sample the apples to help with the selection process. The orchards extend farther than was apparently from the parking lot. It was peaceful at the far end of some of the rows, and we found plenty of apples. It can be muddy, so boots are probably a good idea. It was a lovely fall day, with blue skies. This was a fun way to connect with the season and to become more familiar with where some of our food comes from. Highly recommended.

The blackberries and Marionberries, my fave. They are big, plump, and bursting with flavor. Plus, they are so much easier to pick at a farm where the bushes are staked to a trellis vs. the wild ones I pick on the side of the road. Don't get me wrong, I do pick the wild ones, but I'm usually covered in juice and my hands and arms get all pricked. When I'm here, I pick a huge bucketful so I can make pies. The berries are so sweet I just add a little sugar and lemon juice and the pies are perfect. Also pick enough so I can enjoy some plain, by the handfuls. Their blueberries are sweet and delicious, too! I make space in my freezer so I can have them throughout the year. If you don't want to pick your own, no worries, they sell containers and flats in their cute country store along with other food and gift items. This family farm is so picturesque! It's a lovely setting and it's well run with friendly staff. If you are picking fruit, definitely go in the morning to avoid the sun beating down on your back. And wear a hat!
