I now understand... I went back to Quebrada this weekend for one of the chocolate crossants. It was the biggest, baddest croissant I've had in my life. Best bakery in Arlington. And best coffee. Deadly combination. The staff is always really nice, which is admirable because it can be a jungle in there if it's remotely busy. Some of this is due to the fact that you pour your own coffee, which is on the wall across from the counter/delicious treats. So sometimes people are ping-ponging all around that place to get the cups, then coffee, then lids, then awesome foam cup holders, etc. But I digress...this is not really Quebrada's fault, it's our fault. You and me. Quebrada, for it's part, has delicious food, great coffee, friendly staff, and lightweight cool foam cup holders to keep your fingers away from that hot coffee cup. I drove by this place every day on my way to drop my dog off at daycare, but only stopped in after hearing Mindy Kaling mention it in her book. I'm so glad I did! I got a dozen cupcakes for my dog's daycare staff (they are lovely and deserve all the cupcakes for taking care of my high energy dog) and a few for myself and co-workers. They were a big hit with everyone! Lots of variety, not oily, not dry, not to sweet. Just right! Their coffee is pretty amazing as well. Also, the decor reminds me of the patisserie from Chocolat. I have walked by this bakery so many times and after a little afternoon stop there yesterday, I am KICKING MYSELF. I love cupcakes. I like kick ass cupcakes in Davis Sq, but am always annoyed by the price, which seems a little steep for modestly sized treats. Quebrada (which makes no claims in their name about the cupcake mastery, I might add), is SO MUCH BETTER! My fave thing is that they sell mini-cupcakes $1.40 each, and they're awesome (and completely beautiful too). Fear not though, they also sell full sized cupcakes that are considerably larger than Kick Ass' cupcakes, yet LESS expensive. Quebrada does have fewer flavors (probably about 7 choices, versus a dozen at KAC), so if you want edgier combos or a large variety, you might choose KAC, but I usually end up getting chocolate with chocolate anyway, so I'll be back here over and over again. I also like that they give you a little off the individual sale price if you buy in half dozens (this is true for minis and large cupcakes alike), which KAC does not (come on - KAC, if I buy a DOZEN, you won't even throw in a 13th? WOW, a bakery that knows the difference between butter cream and whipped cream frosting! This bakery has a diverse offering of excellent confestions, many of which are not overwelmed with sugar. Reading the reviews, raises the concern that I have but one stomach with which to sample the fare at Quebrada and it would take a very long time to make it though all the offereings. They are a little too sweet for my tooth... and I'd give 4 stars, but the other reviews that mindlessly bash them needs a little solidarity. Great place for a tasty treat or fancy cake. read more

Quebrada is my new addiction. Pastries are delicious... everything from the muffins, scones, and CROISSANTS. By far the best croissants around, and I love the fact that they come in mini sizes (raspberry and almond being my personal faves), for that perfect treat to accompany a cup of coffee. Freshly baked cookies and loaves are yummy as well. I can't vouch for the cupcakes and cake because I'm not a lover of frosting, but if it's anything like the rest of the food then they are probably great. Pastries and baked good aside, their coffee is fantastic. Forget Starbucks, Quebrada is my new go-to location for a cup of regular joe, americano, or even cappuccino. All fantastic!! Great environment to grab a stool and take a quick break from the day, not as much space and amenities as other cafes so I wouldn't hunker down and write a paper. My partner and I have been expanding our coffee-shop reach beyond the borders of Camberville, and it's a good thing, too -- Quebrada's a great find. We both had lattes, both competently made. Their coffee is roasted well (not burnt like a few other coffee shops that will remain unnamed). The coffee isn't the strong point, though -- apologies for burying the lede, but I like to save the best for last: holy cats, those croissants. I had a mini almond croissant and nearly cried. The pecan roll was also a pretty fierce contender, and my partner spoke pretty highly of his regular croissant and cinnamon bun. I saw a loaf of soda bread on the way out and intend to go back and try it. I grew up with it, and if it's made as well as the croissants are, I might have to ration myself. read more

I stopped in here the other day right before a movie, thinking, "A snack from a bakery will be better than treats from the concession stand at the movie theater." WRONG. What was I thinking? I'm uncontrollable in bakeries. It's a disease that's plagued me since I was old enough to spend money. I got a cup of coffee and a scone with currants. The kind of coffee I wanted was out, so I settled with a house blend which was essentially just an average cup of coffee. The scone was the perfect amount of crumbly dryness. Upon dunking it into my coffee, the scone retained a decent scone form but dribbled small pieces into the bottom of my cup, permitting me to have a burst of happy delight as I drank the last swigs of the coffee. The currants were good for reconstituted fruit, with a salty yet sweet twist that made the scone satisfying. Quedaba's a good place to stop before the movies, and also a great place to grab a bag of day old muffins or croissants for 50% less than today's selection. read more

Mouth watering pastries - croissants of all varieties (plain, fruit filled, meat filled), rolls, cakes, cookies, cupcakes, scones, and I could go on and on! For those on a diet they have many of the pastries in a petite form so that you can get the taste and not gain too much weight. Prices are extremely reasonable. I was however very disappointed with their chai tea latte - it tasted like water! I will return for more pastries though. Quebrada is one of the best bakeries I have ever been too. In fact every other bakery I go to I compare it to this place. It was a real shame when they closed their coffee shop a few years back but their bakery is the best part anyway, I just miss their tiramisu. I really like Quebrada and have been a customer since it was a teeny tiny spot 'new' in Arlington. It's grown over the years to be a staple in the community. I think their baked goods are quite yummy and the smell inside is like aromatherapy on a cold winter day. Their coffee is good but I wish it were more 'craft'...they brew it and keep it (several blends at a time) in push pots which are always suspect to me...I suppose I've been spoiled by 'cup at a time' brewing in San Francisco. I will return again and again and would recommend this place to others...the fact that they make a 'mini' chocolate croissant that doesn't leave me feeling guilty is way too valuable to abandon just because there is no bathroom in the cafe...if I linger over my coffee and need a 'wee' it's a huge bummer to have to drive home to take care of business. I will say that I was there today enjoying a yummy drip coffee and the 'ultimate chocolate' cookie (both were fab) and was reminded of being in a cafe in Noe Valley's San Francisco 'hood....lots of moms and their babies in prams...I suppose that is what Arlington is though...and it's not a bad thing. I've only been here once on the way to lunch and desperately in need of coffee that wasn't weak like dunkin donuts or burnt like starbucks. I am a certified coffee snob! That's right! Both my boyfriend and I were surprised that this bakery had many different varieties of coffee and all tasted nice and full and perked me right up. I had the hazelnut. I am not normally a flavored coffee kind of person but this was GOOD! The decor is cute, mexican, and colorful. The cupcakes looked amazing but my boyfriend and I (all before breakfast) got cookies....which eaten later on, proved to be very delicious. I'm hemming and hawing between 3 or 4 stars. This place is 3.5 I would say! It has delicious cupcakes (nomnomnom) and decent pastries (some leave room to be desired). My issue here is twofold: 1) No seating. At all. Which is kind of a bummer if you want someplace around the area to just sit for a moment. 2) Their coffee is mediocre. Quebrada would get 5 stars if I was only rating their filled croissants. Wow! Try chocolate, apricot, and classic almond. Classic almond is my favorite. There is so much almond paste that when they hand you the bag you think there's a small brick in it! Yum! The croissants are crunchy, flaky, soft, and buttery all at once. They are not bready like most croissants in the area. I wish they had more small ones though. The only small filled one I ever see is chocolate. Their muffins and scones are also good, but I don't find them to be that much better than most of the other places that sell muffins and scones. Service is usually good, and always fast, but I like a peppy, happy server in the morning to get me off to a good start, and I don't usually get that here. Reviewing two bakeries in a row.... I require more carbs. The interior of this place is nice, although if you want to eat in it looks like they have limited seating, so try off-hours. They mainly seem to focus on selling sweet things with only a few savory items (aside from bread, I mean). They also do cute "mini" versions of their cupcakes and scones, I guess if you're like me and want to pay for tiny nibbly things to scarf down. Their scones are great. I tried my friend's Danish, it was very sweet and jammy. And, not to weirdly echo a review I just wrote, the only thing I didn't like was the cupcake. I love frosting and candy and sprinkles and CAKE!!- but I just seem to have the worst luck with cupcakes recently. I'm having super first world problems going on here, I know. So yeah, I got a chocolate cupcake. The cake part was fine, it was moist and generic like a chocolate cakemix should make... but the frosting was really gross. I can't believe I'm typing this because I really like frosting, but I could barely eat any of it. I think it was specifically because it was a chocolate frosting- it tasted like Hershey's syrup mixed with a bit of cough medicine and then thickened to spoon on a cake. Whatever, I'm not one of those people who gives a place *omg 1 star* because I didn't like ONE thing, but if you're reading this... get something else. Oh, and the coffee here is really nice too. I got it hot and my friend got it iced. The hazelnut cream flavor is yummy. So come if you want very sugary things and coffee.... but avoid the chocolate frosting. read more

Okay tried the chocolate whoopie pie and the pecan roll. 1) Chocolate Whoopie Pie: About the same as the pumpkin whoopie pie. I really like the buttercream in the middle (they apparently have that down pat). The cookies are really soft. Take not Finale you're whoopie pies pale in comparison to Quebrada's! 2) Pecan Pie: Wasn't feeling this at all. Not a lot of sweetness and really lacked that pecan taste. So glad we tried this place for my dad's birthday dessert. He wanted mini cheesecakes and this was close enough to their place. I saw that they had amazing reviews, mini cheesecakes and was within the proximity. We were greeted by a friendly young woman that was working at the time. She was able to help me get the mini cheesecakes which were $2 per piece and I ended up also getting an apricot croissant (there were only 2 left- it was about 3:30/3:45 pm). She mentioned that the croissants go fast, and I can see why. When we ate the croissant it was absolutely delightful. We did warm it up a bit at home! The cheesecakes were heaven! I honestly wish we had gotten more. I don't know how they make them, but it seems to be out of this world! If you're in the area and want to give this place a shot, I would definitely recommend it. :) read more

I've been trying cookies, mostly chocolate chip, at bakeries around town. So far I've had Darwin's, Clear Flour, and now Quebrada. I would rate the chocolate chip cookies at Quebrada as good, not great. The chocolate cookies with white chocolate chunks were better. The oatmeal raisin were my least favorite as they were overly sweet. Clear Flour is winning the competition thus far. I enjoyed my tea at Quebrada. they have both loose and bagged, as well as the service which was very friendly. If they were in my neighborhood I'd go back and try the cupcakes (the tiny ones looked great!, coffee cake (it looked dense with fruit and nuts, yum), and the croissants (based on the reviews here). read more

A gem in East Arlington. As a former employee several years back, I can vouch for the fact that the baristas are very passionate about making quality coffee drinks, and doing espresso right! (It's no simple task, pouring the perfect espresso shot.) I was trained by the best. Quebrada values the integrity of its products and staff, and it shows. I even asked for more decorations to be added after I got to the bakery. Not a smirk, nor a sigh, the girl said OK. off she went to add more sprinkles to the cake. We shared a slice of blueberry walnut coffee cake and a petite almond croissant, and both were delicious! I would've preferred to have a regular-sized almond croissant, but they were already sold out :( Surely a sign that this bakery has booming business though! Nearly all of the croissants were completely gone or only had one or two left in the case, and I'll be sure to come back at an earlier time to try to snag more croissants for myself. Also got the Dancing Goats coffee after reading so many wonderful reviews about it, and to be quite honest, it was good, but wasn't out-of-this-world like I expected. I recently ordered a Chocolate Mocha cake for my mom's birthday. I ordered the 9" which is really large; 5 of us had decent sized pieces and half a cake was left over! That's not a complaint by any means because this cake is delicious. The cake itself is delicious and isn't dry at all. However, I was so happy that the flavor of the mocha was on point and so was the presentation. This cake looked exactly like it did on their website. We requested writing on the cake and that too was on point and had a professional appearance (I hate when it looks like something I could have done). The buttercream isn't overly sweet and it's decently firm so each piece stays perfect when you cut into it. I couldn't be happier with our decision to use this bakery and will definitely be ordering more cakes in the future. read more
