YES is a non-profit organization that helps English-speaking Quebecers find jobs, develop their…read morebusinesses, or find guidance as professional artists. Basically, they serve three groups (some of which overlap): 1. People aged 18-35 who need help with finding a job (so YES offers help in refining their resumes, interview prep, French for the workplace, etc). 2. Entrepreneurs of all ages who need access to resources for developing their businesses (YES offers workshops on writing business plans, legal info, project management, registering your business, networking, plus free one-on-one business coaching with a coach who is matched to you, either online or in-person). 3. Artists of all ages who need help with career development (YES offers workshops on navigating social media promotion, finding funding, grant writing, time management, also many of them free). Having used their services on and off for the last 10 years, and much more in recent months, I find YES is incredibly helpful for giving newbie entrepreneurs insights and direction on where to go with their project. I feel their coaches have a lot of information and expertise to share, and the advice they give is quite relevant more often than not. Also, the connections you make with other newbie entrepreneurs in the workshops is quite motivating. I feel that their offerings to artists is also very helpful, especially as it's well-structured, consistent and seems to fill a huge need within the English-speaking community. In recent years, they seem to have shifted from only in-person to both in-person and online workshops, which is great! Personal coaching, and most workshops are freely available with the yearly membership of $30, with some workshops with guest speakers priced affordably at $20 - 40. Personally, at my stage of business development, I'd rather pay $30 to use their affordable services, AND have access to a personal business coach, rather than paying much more for some random coach online. All in all, it's a valuable resource for the English-speaking community in Quebec, and I recommend it for anyone who's starting out as a professional artist and/or entrepreneur.

There are notaries,…read more and Then there is Maryse Huard Notaire. She is detailed-oriented, respectful of timelines, and in 1 word - Excellent. She offers virtual services/closing, and is fluent in French, English and while she will not admit it - also has a good command of Spanish. Notaries in Quebec play the most critical role in any transaction you are entering into, and we have found that the quality of a notary's work varies greatly. She was referred to me by another of her clients, and I am very thankful he did. She did a great job for us, and kept us on a timeline - even when we thought there was no way we would make the target date. However, it was her guidance every step of the way that enabled us make the deadline without sacrificing any of the required research work needed ahead of it. She is very project-focused, and also very helpful in educating us on the process; including the Assyst Payment System used by notaries so you can easily pay via your bank by just adding the Assyst Payment System as a payee with your transaction reference number - which will be in the coupon your notary will provide you with. If you are fortunate enough to have Me Huard agree to take on your transaction/project, you will have an experienced, knowledgeable and dependable partner on the team.

Huard is detail-oriented, straight-talking and highly responsive, just the type of quality that's needed for a great notary. She gave us all the information we needed to proceed with the closing, and we got the closing dealt with at a fair price in less than 2 weeks. There are a lot of notaries on the island of Montreal, but you'd be hard pressed to find someone like Mtre. Huard who is easy to communicate to, professional and unassuming.

She had forgotten to declare my CERB income in which I first did not notice and was surprised to receive a big refund. Last week, I just got my notice and owe A LOT, which was a shock, especially seeing that 0$ of my benefits were declared. Tried to contact her to leave a note that I had indeed declared and it was a mistake on her end - no answer ever since. My mother gave me her personal number, and I received a very rude response. Do not go here. Don't even know why her business is still operating. I do not pay an accountant to make big mistakes like this.
