In an "hour-long" appointment I was lucky to get 2 minutes of face time with the doctor, who didn't seem particularly interested, just wanted to move on to the next patient. To add to the profit-drive factory farm feel, OAH (and OASC, which, somehow, is a completely separate entity from OAH - although of course they don't explain that to you) have extraordinarily opaque billing practices: In the 2 months since my surgery I have received bills for hundreds of dollars from at least 4 separate "companies" and counting. Along with assorted smaller bills. Follow up care has been disappointing - again, essentially zero time with the doctor (Dr. Stephen Davis) and, instead of referring me to PT or giving me exercises to do, Dr. Davis told me to look up exercises on YouTube. Not really the medical expertise I am looking for, or paying for to be honest. The only good thing is that the Orthopedic Associates Surgery Center is a beautiful facility. The OAH offices (Plainville, etc.) are your typical doctors offices, nothing special, if anything a little more worn and dated than I expected. In all, would not recommend unless they are your only option.

This review is meant to save potential patients the hassle I've experienced. Firstly, the care I…read morereceived at the Farmington office was very good. My issue was not resolved entirely after my 5 appointments but it was improved. I reason I'm writing this review is to warn anyone who is thinking about PT appointments to call their insurance first. It may not change your decision to receive treatment but at least you won't be surprised by the bill you eventually receive like I was. Ok, so here's how it went down...I've gone to PT in the past. At that point a recommendation/ prescription from my PCP was required and it was treated like a specialist doctor's visit. Whatever treatment I received I only owed the $40 specialist co-pay. A massage and heat treatment, $40. Traction and exercises, $40. You get the picture. This time around, a few years later and through a different HC insurance company, it's now billed as a service where the patient is not only responsible from dollar one but each and every treatment, exercise and all supplies are charged individually. This means that after the insurance price adjustment (not what the insurance co. paid but the discounted price they agreed upon with Select PT) my 5 appointments varied in price from $75 - $160. Because I have had a good health year and haven't paid much, if at all, towards my deductible, a majority of the amount due was my responsibility. Now, no one likes a ~$500 doctor's bill but I was especially taken aback because this had never been disclosed to me by the PT office. They didn't mention the fact that they weren't considered a specialty doctor anymore (Was this part of a legislative change? Once a recommendation/prescription was not required by your PCP did that allow insurance companies to treat them differently?) or talk to me about the fact that each treatment and all supplies were being charged individually and could lead to wildly varying bills. Would I agreed to traction if I knew it was a separate charge? Maybe I would have forgone the electrical stimulus. As the patient I have to trust that the therapist knows the best course of action and I likely would have approved the treatments but I would have appreciated knowing what was going to be my financial responsibility. Again, I am not disputing my obligation, and the negotiated insurance rate did help keep the total amount due much more reasonable, I just think Select should be informing their patients of their billing practices or at the very least encouraging them to call their insurance company to get a cost estimate. I do remember asking the receptionist if they took my insurance or if I needed to do anything else and her reply was something to the effect of, yes, we take your insurance, you're all set. I was surprised and highly annoyed when I got the bill...lesson learned I guess. Hoping this review saves other people the hassle!

This is a great place for physical therapy. First and foremost, the physical therapists I've…read moreworked with really know their stuff. I've worked with Stephany mostly, but also had a session with Katie. Their training (MPT, DPT) and experience (24 years for Stephany) enable them to home in surprisingly quickly on causes of pain. My right shoulder has been really hurting after a fall. The usual culprits, muscle trauma and arthritis, are major sources of this pain. But Stephany soon realized that a pinched nerve in my cervical spine is also causing substantial pain. She's given me a menu of stretching and extension exercises that are simple and effective. And after she has worked on--manipulated--my shoulder for a while, I leave PTSMC feeling decidedly better. Katie worked with me one time when Stephany was unavailable. She had thoroughly discussed my problems with Stephany beforehand, and I got the same level of expert therapy guidance from Katie as I had experienced with Stephany. Stephany and Katie are pleasant and patient. Sidney and Sam at the front desk are pleasant and invariably helpful. The studio itself is bright with plenty of outside light streaming in through the windows, well laid out, and clean. After years of physical therapy that was annoying, but necessary, I consider myself very lucky to have come across PTSMC, where I actually look forward to my physical therapy sessions. Five stars and three thumbs up.

How lucky I was to chose Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine Centers at 44 Dale Rd in Avon,CT' . I never thought I would have full use of my arm again, and although the PT Therapists insist I did it, putting in the hard work I disagree. They worked miracles, They understand how the body is built for all the parts to work together. They tailor an exercise program to work the muscles you will need to strengthen your muscles etc,. Before PT I was in constant pain for months unable to do basic care. Now I have full range of motion and am pain, free I did not dare hope it would be possible., but Kristen developed a plan that worked. The entire team was there for me as needed I want to Thank you all. You are the best.

I had had cancerous lymph nodes removed from my left groin area and as a result of losing the lymph nodes, had developed Lymphedema. Glen is a certified specialist in Lymphatic massage, which was the treatment I needed to help alleviate the sweeping and the pain. HE WAS AMAZING!! Extremely knowledgeable (he has a million degrees including Doctor of Physical Therapy) and is studying for more. His deep understanding of my condition, how the body works and how to administer the best therapy (and give me my at home work to do as well) literally made the difference between my having this condition - painful Lymphedema - for life, or gradually subsiding. My therapy concluded once it was at the stage it would remain at (with continued at home care) which was 90% better than when I first walked into the Rehab center. Everyone at the center was welcoming and professional. Greeted you by name the minute you walked in the door. Much more personal than some of the other rehab centers I have gone to. All have been good, but these folks had more of a personal interest in my as a patient than I have experiences before. And when you are hurting - that extra care goes a long way. I am so glad Ivy moved into the Valley! I hope I don't need PT for anything for a while now, but should I need it, it would definitely be back to Ivy and Glen.
