Briefly, my thigh became paralyzed and excruciatingly painful rather suddenly. My PCP xrayed my hip which showed no problem and sent me to the Oah walkin. The PA there said it did not present like hip but didn't take any other xrays and referred me to a hip APRN. Since she didn't think the problem was hip she decided to inject steroids into the joint. The injection was done in a 2 inch gap between my street clothes without any draping. My hip joint was infected and destroyed. I needed 2 hip replacements, temporary and permanent, and over a year of antibiotics including 6 weeks iv 3 times a day at home. I have a huge scar and degradation of my hip function. It turned out my problem was a severe spinal stenosis. So, I had spinal laminectomy and fusion before the hip replacements. 3 major surgeries within 6 months. The worst part, though, is no one in the entire practice took responsibility for the pain they caused me. They said it was a rare side effect not an egregious error. No one in the practice even was interested in the systemmic errors or making improvements in the practice. The APRN who injected me has never contacted me at all. IF YOU GO HERE THEY ARE LIKELY TO DO THE SAME INJECTIONS WITH THE SAME LACK OF SANITARY PRECAUTIONS. Like others who reviewed the practice, I found the staff unfriendly and unhelpful with curiously a lot of people just standing around. It varies but the doctors run hours late.

After having the…read morefractures corrected via kyphoplasty, my musculature was completely out of whack from trying to support the crushed spine. Their physical therapy has allowed me to get off pain medicine and get back to life, chasing my puppy and scurrying around like I used to. The PTs and athletic trainers have the sense to know when you're genuinely hurting, but push you once you're doing better, to actually get you strong again --no "going through the motions" b.s. You'll leave with that "tired in a good way" feeling. You take for granted how critical your back is until it's crushed and you're lying in bed with a brace so tight you can't breathe. This is some serious selfcare with a legit purpose.

However they do accept Connecticare patients who do not have the insurance thru the exchange. Even the receptionist was apologetic. I had the option of paying $250 for a visit which I declined since I do have insurance. She wrote out the names of other places I could go to get looked at. I just drove home feeling humiliated and embarrassed. I contacted the State insurance department to ask if this was legal? Sounds suspicious to me.

I've worked with Stephany mostly, but also had a session with Katie. Their training (MPT, DPT) and experience (24 years for Stephany) enable them to home in surprisingly quickly on causes of pain. My right shoulder has been really hurting after a fall. The usual culprits, muscle trauma and arthritis, are major sources of this pain. But Stephany soon realized that a pinched nerve in my cervical spine is also causing substantial pain. She's given me a menu of stretching and extension exercises that are simple and effective. And after she has worked on--manipulated--my shoulder for a while, I leave PTSMC feeling decidedly better. Katie worked with me one time when Stephany was unavailable. She had thoroughly discussed my problems with Stephany beforehand, and I got the same level of expert therapy guidance from Katie as I had experienced with Stephany. Stephany and Katie are pleasant and patient. Sidney and Sam at the front desk are pleasant and invariably helpful. The studio itself is bright with plenty of outside light streaming in through the windows, well laid out, and clean. After years of physical therapy that was annoying, but necessary, I consider myself very lucky to have come across PTSMC, where I actually look forward to my physical therapy sessions. This review is meant to save potential patients the hassle I've experienced. Firstly, the care I…read morereceived at the Farmington office was very good. My issue was not resolved entirely after my 5 appointments but it was improved. I reason I'm writing this review is to warn anyone who is thinking about PT appointments to call their insurance first. It may not change your decision to receive treatment but at least you won't be surprised by the bill you eventually receive like I was. Ok, so here's how it went down...I've gone to PT in the past. At that point a recommendation/ prescription from my PCP was required and it was treated like a specialist doctor's visit. Whatever treatment I received I only owed the $40 specialist co-pay. A massage and heat treatment, $40. Traction and exercises, $40. You get the picture. This time around, a few years later and through a different HC insurance company, it's now billed as a service where the patient is not only responsible from dollar one but each and every treatment, exercise and all supplies are charged individually. This means that after the insurance price adjustment (not what the insurance co. paid but the discounted price they agreed upon with Select PT) my 5 appointments varied in price from $75 - $160. Because I have had a good health year and haven't paid much, if at all, towards my deductible, a majority of the amount due was my responsibility. Now, no one likes a ~$500 doctor's bill but I was especially taken aback because this had never been disclosed to me by the PT office. They didn't mention the fact that they weren't considered a specialty doctor anymore (Was this part of a legislative change? Once a recommendation/prescription was not required by your PCP did that allow insurance companies to treat them differently?) or talk to me about the fact that each treatment and all supplies were being charged individually and could lead to wildly varying bills. Would I agreed to traction if I knew it was a separate charge? Maybe I would have forgone the electrical stimulus. As the patient I have to trust that the therapist knows the best course of action and I likely would have approved the treatments but I would have appreciated knowing what was going to be my financial responsibility. Again, I am not disputing my obligation, and the negotiated insurance rate did help keep the total amount due much more reasonable, I just think Select should be informing their patients of their billing practices or at the very least encouraging them to call their insurance company to get a cost estimate. I do remember asking the receptionist if they took my insurance or if I needed to do anything else and her reply was something to the effect of, yes, we take your insurance, you're all set. I was surprised and highly annoyed when I got the bill...lesson learned I guess. Hoping this review saves other people the hassle!

They are excellent listeners and even though the training can feel rigorous, they keep my health as priority to keep me making positive progress session to session.
