We spent two nights here recently and came away happy about a few things and upset about others. The bottom line is we would not recommend staying here, and we'll try to offer some clear reasons why. But first, we want to report that we had several good experiences here. One, the front desk staff was very friendly; two, our room was clean and smelled fresh; and three, the bedding and pillows were comfy. That said, let's get to the troubling aspects... For starters, as some of us have mobility issues, we asked for a first floor room. We were assigned 108. Only it turns out that's one of a number of rooms actually on a second floor. AND THERE IS NO ELEVATOR HERE. We couldn't change rooms and were forced to walk up and down two flights of stairs. Unacceptable. Next, the toilet would not flush back-to-back, and it took at least five minutes before a second flush would work. Next, the internet was not merely slow but we were required to re-connect every few hours. The front desk could not explain why. Lastly, our room keys disabled themselves after every use. Again, no explanation why. The complimentary hot breakfast we found inedible: chunks of some sort of egg substitute, tasteless sausages, altogether terrible both mornings we stopped by. So let's stop there. We won't even mention the tight parking issues. (There is a pool; we did not use it) We just want you to be cautious in booking here and beware of the motel's condition and problems please. We appreciate the nice people behind the front desk but too much else here was disgracefully bad. read more

Oi! For $280 I expect a clean tub, a room that doesn't smell of cigarettes....Or have the base coving in the bathroom peeling off due to water damage, have @100+ cigarette butts on the ground within 10 feet of the room door that opens up to the utility parking lot, and looks kicked in a few times, to be at least located away from the long term 'residents' at the property. I would guess that mere mortals could walk in the foot steps of Jesus and walk on top of the water in the hot tub...it would be no miracle however. There is a direct relationship between the number of stars and the cost of being here. The place is not clean...by any standard. They should change the motto to 'a room for a night....or a lifetime'. Needed a room for only one night in the Shelburne, VT area. One-night options were limited in mid-July. Booked a room here at $216 including taxes. Woman on desk duty was very nice. She printed some documents that I needed for the next day. We stayed in the main building, right above the lobby. First impression was not great. Stairwell carpet was filthy, matted, old. There were giant stains on the stair carpeting. Walls were dirty. The stairwells and hallways had a peculiar odor. They were attempting to mask the odor. The place smelled like there were a bunch of vanilla Christmas tree air fresheners. Room was okay. We were told/billed for 2 queen beds. The beds were not queens, they were full sized. A day or two after we stayed, I received an email from Choice Hotels asking for a review. I filled out the survey. After filling out the survey, I received an extremely angry email from the hotel manager, telling me that I was childish and that I was harassing. She told me that the room I stayed in had been newly remodeled. It had not. The bathroom vanity was falling apart. Looks like a nice building that was once a very nice hotel. With paint/cleaning/carpet, it could be restored to its former glory. Summary: I would not stay here unless you have no other options. I feel like it was an $89 a night hotel, not a $200 +/- per night. read more

One of the reasons we chose this location was because they had a pool. When we got there a sign said the pool has been in operational since November 2021. Huge stain on the rug, the hallways were dingy the room was OK but not super clean. Breakfast was ok. The staff did the bare minimum. Would not stay here again. Me and my girlfriend found this room on Hotels.com and thought it was going to be a nice getaway. As we pulled in staff acted angry and like they couldnt be bothered assisting you. The lot was infested with drug use and what seemed like a homeless people safe haven or something. I got a non smoking room and was told the smoke fee would be $350. As soon as i checked in the room smelt like cigarettes so bad that my girlfriend asked me to politely switch rooms. After some headache we were able to get a second room which smelt worse than the first one and had stains on the beds and stains all over the bathroom. I felt as if even if the room were free, it was disgusting and id never come back let alone recommend anybody to pay money to stay in what was by far the worst stay ever. For almost $200 a night I could have thrown up from the service provided and uncleanliness. read more

Not the best hotel but we were only here 1 night so it was fine. The room amenities aren't the best. The shower head had low water pressure and none of the settings were very good. But at least the beds were comfortable. There was a complimentary breakfast included with our stay which was nice because there wasn't a lot of options in the area for a nice breakfast. The food itself was typical. There was a pancake machine but it was broken (go figure) but they did have a waffle machine so I made one of those and also had some yogurt. Part of the hotel is indoors but we did have to walk outside to get to our room. And it got pretty cold there so that was unfortunate. I wouldn't prefer to stay here again unless we got a really good deal. But maybe that's how all the hotels are in the area. We will find out next time! read more

When I booked a room for 2 nights I was not told the pool or hot tub weren't working. There were no patio chairs on our balcony to even be able to sit outside. We were told there's a nice patio to sit at in the back so we went out to it. Furniture all piled in the center and on top of each other, the next night it was all chained together still and it was 5:00PM. I filled out the survey and did get an answer back from the manager, name I won't include. When I responded again to her she was very angry... all I asked for was some sort of refund since the amenities were not there - NOT even a working ice machine!!! They had a very small one in the place of one of the 2 in the motel, but all the ice was gone.... would NOT stay at a Quality Inn again. read more

The place is OK, kind of clean. They are currently renovating during my stay so they did keep up on what they could. The room cleanliness leaves much to be desired. Not sure if they change the sheets or not and I'm not sure who socks these are but they are not mine. TV remote did not work, I did ask the lady at the front desk for a new set of batteries, hoping that it might, work it didn't, and I had a lousy Wi-Fi signal. Really, thus place is an unqualified mess The room stunk quite badly. The carpeting looks like it dates to the Eisenhower Administration. The shower worked but that's about the best thing you could say. The HVAC system made us frigid when the A/C was on - any other setting made it stuffy. The overall system of the property is best described as in terribly neglect. The most positive part of our stay was the man responsible for the breakfast area: he cheerfully offered us blueberry pancakes and diligently cleaned the room and tables. He should definitely be paid better fir putting up with these working conditions. For a hotel that cost $70/night it might be forgiven. For over $300/night, it was a travesty. Stayed here two nights as we stopped in the area on a road trip. The staff is semi-friendly at best. The beds are ok comfortable wise. Here are the lesser qualities: 1) we left the first morning at 830 and arrived back at 330. Our room hadn't been serviced. I needed to get my small boys a nap so I went to the front desk to get towels. When I explained my room hadn't been cleaned, the front desk personnel told me that I probably left the do not disturb sign out, which I hadn't. I got clean towels myself from the open linen closet down the hall. 2) the walls are very thin. Luckily our area was fairly vacant but the people upstairs sounded like a herd of elephants and people in the hall outside the door walking by might have as well been in the room with us. 3) the breakfast is ok. The waffles are decent but make sure you get to the lobby by 845 as they started cleaning everything up around then since breakfast ends at 9. 4) the water in the room was touchy control wise. It was either cold or scolding hot. 5) there was an alarm clock in the room but couldn't power on I would recommend finding somewhere else to stay if you can. read more

you are better off staying at a motel or honestly camping out in a tent. This hotel does not demonstrate quality in anyway. We walk into our room, and it instantly wreaks of cigarettes, and is very congested. I go to take my shoes off, and the whole entire carpet is damp upon a huge stain of who knows what on the carpet. I then go outside on the deck, the one nice thing about this room so far, and I notice a colony of dead wasps on the ground. I look up, and there are live wasps living in the cracks of the walls. There are also cigarettes used from the previous people outside on our deck. Eventually I take a shower, and in less than 5 minutes I am standing in a tub of water, the drain was not working. This place is a nightmare, do not waste your time and especially money into staying here. read more

Cobwebs with bugs in it, cherry stems in the corner, and a "non smoking" room that reeked of cigarette smoke. It's cheap, it's clean, it has good bedding and a pool. Didn't try the breakfast but it smelled good. I was torn between 3*s and 4*s. It's not fancy, but for what it is it's pretty dam good! I will be back when I'm in the area. It's super convenient for me because my Parents are right behind it @ "The Residence at Shelburne Bay"... Also 2 blocks from Magic Hat Brewery and walkable to several good places to eat, and bowling. I'd like to add: the people who complained about price did pay too much. I did not. I don't think they know how to book a Hotel in this day and age. And if they didn't like the price they did get, they're not going to enjoy paying to stay in Burlington, or for parking... Wow this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. First of all, the price gouging here is absolutely insane. $320 a night for an absolute garbage dump of a hotel. Wallpaper is peeling off the walls, the walls are extremely thin, the room was not properly cleaned, smells disgusting, and we were put in the sketchy back building of the hotel. I searched AARP travel and requested a pet-friendly room. After paying in advance, when we arrived at the Quality Inn Choice hotel in Shelburne, VT, there was a sign in the window telling people to notify the desk if we needed a pet-friendly room. We had a beagle with us. The desk clerk informed me that there were no pet free rooms. When I said the room was paid in advance she said I should have booked directly with them and not through Expedia. It was a Saturday night and we had traveled 4 hours from CT. I offered to keep the dog in the car, but she would not budge. This was by far the rudest person I have ever met at a hotel. However, she was not rude to the young men who staying there. After much arguing she said her manager had cancelled our reservation and I would have to get my refund from Expedia, not them. She also threatened to call the police if we did not leave. When I pointed to the pet friendly sign, she said something about it only applying to long-term stays. I did email Expedia about a refund, but have not heard anything yet. I did not cancel this pre-paid room. The hotel would not honor it. I also had to find another room at 8:30 pm on a Saturday night before Easter traveling with my son to spend the holiday with our granddaughter in Middlebury. The clerk refused to give me her name, but I have a pictures of her, the pet-friendly sign and the outside of the hotel. I also have a bill from the Burlington Doubletree, where we finally got a room. This place is definitely NOT senior or pet friendly!! read more

I booked this place on the recommendation of a friend. She said if your looking for a good place at the right price, this is the place. I'm so happy I did! The staff were amazing and super friendly. The manager Christine was so helpful and knowledgeable about the area and things to do. We just loved her! Our room was clean and the amenities were good but the breakfast options were amazing! This hotel left a lot to be desired. It seems like choice hotels just bought some old motel, slapped their name on it and upped the prices by 50%. I don't know about the rate for most people but this seemed really expensive for what you get. The parking lot is extremely crammed and the spaces are very small. You better hope a huge truck or SUV doesn't park next to you or you will barely be able to open your door. The door to get in our room, above the lobby, the locking mechanism was prevented from locking by putting duct tape over it. This is a keyless entry so anyone can walk in but, what if someone peeled that tape off in the middle of the night? Most of the room was fine, but i really did not care for the pillows, which were smaller than a normal pillow, and extremely soft. That may sound good but when you are on two pillows and your head still sinks down and you feel like you need another... it's annoying. The bathroom had the most problems, the toilet paper is in a very awkward place, there was a loose tile, which could be a trip hazard or could easily scrape your foot on it and the shower had extremely low water pressure. The first night, between 6 and 7 am there was a barrage of slamming doors, preventing me from sleeping. I think it was the door to exit the hallway. Most places would have some kind of mechanism to make the door slowly and quietly shut. Needless to say, i got less sleep than i wanted. Now i still awarded 3 stars here - i admit, I'm being kind of nitpicky. The good part about this hotel was it was perfectly clean, and that's what's most important to most people. Service was also fine. I didn't go to the continental breakfast, pool, sauna, hot tub, or workout room so i can't comment on those. Someone said it earlier, you get what you pay for. However in my instance I wasn't expecting that since my last night would be discounted that they wouldn't clean my room. I happen to be a platinum with Choice hotels but based on being "overlooked" that night I'm not sure if it is even worth it. I guess I will have to drive the extra miles into Burlington next time to a Hilton property. My expectations are high because that's just who I am. Thomas and I weren't really looking to spend this much on a basic hotel, but really didn't have too much of a choice since we were on a fairly last-minute getaway during Presidents' Day weekend -- we ended up paying $206 for two nights (one night slightly more expensive than the other). The room was fine, very comfy. It was a non-smoking room but there was some sort of residual scent. I really wanted to stay in a hotel with a hot tub and was pretty satisfied with the one we found here. Not private -- clearly -- but we were able to pour some champagne into paper cups and pretend that we were in a classy, romantic place (once the four boisterous children finally tired of the jaccuzi and left). The treadmill in the fitness room did not work so I had to use the silly elliptical machine instead, which turned out ok. No one was down there when I was, and I got the impression that this was not a very popular part of the hotel...one of those things that they have just so they can say that they have it, and not because people use it. I was actually surprised by how much equipment was available; none of it new by any means, but you could really put in a good workout if you were so inclined. Being a bit of a health food junkie, the continental breakfast bar did not offer much for me besides suspiciously large bananas. For those with less specific dietary desires, it would be great -- waffles, cereal, juice, fruit, eggs, sausage. Pretty basic Sysco type stuff, but you could fill up if you wanted to do so. The front desk folk were very nice, especially the gentleman who checked us in. When we checked out after our two-night stay, I was a little disappointed to hear the front desk lady and another hotel worker talking about how loud and disrespectful and yadda yadda yadda some of the kids staying at the hotel were (probably the jaccuzi hogs). Yes, the children were loud and could be considered annoying, but I found that kind of chatter pretty unprofessional. It was comfortable enough, the amenities were nice enough. I would have liked to give this place a higher rating and probably would have if our bill was 50-60 or so bucks cheaper. read more

So this is converted from some other hotel. I think the Quality Inn as a company did a great job of the restoration. The lay out is a little clunky, but given that the pool used to be an out side pool, and the hallway leading to the pool used to be rooms where the doors were facing the parking lot, not too bad. Not, it is not a 5 star joint but it has great amenities: nice big indoor pool, very nice hot tub, great work out facility, and a nice dry sauna. As for the WiFi, none in our party had any issues and we had connectivity through our the room (2nd floor), roaming thorough the halls and by the pool. My only complaint, the vending area is on the lower floor and the soda was warm. We had a great rate and I think this was a great value. read more

Had a pretty solid, two night stay there with the wife recently. We had two rooms booked, one for us and another for the in-laws. We were able to park the car just a couple of feet away from one of the rooms and were only separated by a floor. The rooms themselves were surprisingly spacious, clean and even had a balcony with a table and chairs. We even had a small glimpse of Lake Champlain from our room. The bathrooms were clean and the air conditioning worked very well. Oh and we even had a fridge in there! All in all, not bad. The amenities in the hotel are limited however they have a very nice, indoor pool and a hot tub. We used both a lot over the weekend and that was definitely another highlight to our stay. That and the fact that the beds were super comfortable. It was like sleeping on giant, fluffy cotton balls. I guess my only two complaints, keeping me from giving it a perfect score would be the breakfast which was not all that great. The selection was decent, but the actual quality of the food including the eggs and bacon, and the juices, was quite low. I would have happily paid slightly more per night to get a better quality meal but instead had to settle for some PJ & J sandwiches and ultra-sugary juices. My second complaint was the quality of their complimentary wifi. None of us could connect to it and when we did, most of the pages including our emails timed out. It was impossible for me to get any work done with it. Would I stay there again? Absolutely. It was a great stay and the service was friendly and the location, right on route 7 makes it a very ideal and practical place to stay since it's just a few minutes away from downtown Burlington. read more

Well. If you would like to save your eyes from reading, you could watch the first few episodes of American horror story hotel. We began our journey with the quality inn thinking it looked like a quaint little hotel with nice amenities. We will honestly stay anywhere clean with doors that lock, so we were excited and surprised to jump into the hot tub. My sister got in, and her bathing suit was immediately and aggressively sucked into the filter, to the point where she could not move. With the help of some friends we were able to retract her from the filter's sinister grip and noticed the tiny warning sign not to sit in front of it. We chalked this up to a funny story, and got out of the hot tub eventually. Much to our annoyance, the only towels available to us were about the size of your average bathroom hand towel. No exaggerations, you'd need four or five to actually dry a normal adult body. We made the frigid walk back to our rooms (this hotel clearly used to have direct outside entry to the rooms and has since been enclosed in glass hallways, but it is frigid). We took turns and hopped into the shower. The bathroom was clean but also smelled delightfully like a chain smoker had lived inside of it for 30 years. When we went to climb into what looked like a cozy bed, we realized the comforter was shredded in four places with the cotton spilling out, and the sheets were (hopefully) stained by bleach. We ultimately got the sheets and blankets changed and laid down on our lovely pillows which were strangely square and tiny like throw pillows. Fast forward to the next morning. We were delighted our sheets had been renewed and were willing to chalk night one up to a bad first impression. We moseyed down to our complimentary breakfast which upon first glance appeared appealing. I reached into the tea bag dispenser and found them all dripping wet. I opened a tiny fridge containing yogurts and found the yogurts were THREE weeks expired...I decided to then opt for the safe treat, a banana, and found that ALL of the peels had been split already. I'd recommend the Burlington bagel bakery to anyone staying at the (lack of) quality inn, unless you like your breakfast seasoned with bits of E. coli. That evening, we decided to take our chances at the hot tub again, and we decided to ask the front desk for some real towels. The front desk associate refused to give them to us, and reminded us of the napkins they offer poolside. Ugh. We let bygones be bygones and slip into the now empty hot tub. Much to our chagrin, we watch someone grab the very last pool towel. We procrastinate the very cold return to the room as long as we can, and then bolt. Immediately we call the front desk and request some towels and remind the lovely associate that she had previously denied them to us. I get in the shower and realize that our housekeeper has replaced our shampoo and conditioner with ALL LOTIONS. We call and the front desk brings us some bottles of that too. Post shower, we venture out for a soda machine and we find one past the sauna and the locker room last updated in 1955. It is situated precariously in between a few old broken arcade games and the ice machine. When it dispenses our Diet Pepsi maxx we realize the bottle dates were over three years ago (yummy, and explains the lack of Diet Coke.) The morning of our departure, I am packing my bag and feel a tickle on my foot. I look down, and realize that under our bed is teeming with tiny little ants. That was about the last straw for us. A few more notes to be aware of--the side and back entrances to the hotel do not have keyed entries, so anyone can walk in at any time. In fact, we needed to pull the door closed quite often when we would find it completely ajar outside of our room. Not very secure. I assume this is because their key system itself is so rudimentary. Only one of our key cards even worked to begin with. You may also want to bring some crampons to attach to your boots, as they do not salt their back parking lot. Unless you're Michelle Kwan, it's a head injury waiting to happen. Finally, the wifi was "free" in the sense that it was free of any functionality whatsoever. We got it working on one computer for a few minutes before it cut out. What a load of garbage. Not sure which gold award the quality inn won in 2015, but I'd say the only gold award it deserved this weekend was "congrats, no one was murdered here yet" award. Please read this review knowing we are typically easy to please people with few complaints...as long as we get a roof and a comfy clean bed...we are satisfied. I will never stay here again. The hallways smelled. The room had free WIFI, but you had to be sitting near the door to use it, it wouldn't connect inside the room. The beds were terrible. In fact the kids didn't want to sleep in them. The breakfast was terrible, so don't bother with it and head to the Skinny Pancake instead. I'm giving it a one star because it is walking distance from a restaurant across the street that had some really nice beers on tap. read more

Stayed at this hotel last week. Wasn't expecting much upon booking but it turned out much nicer than other higher rated hotels in the area. Staff was very friendly. The room was clean and the bathroom looked newly renovated. There was a balcony in our room and it was nice to be able to enjoy the fresh air. BEWARE! CHARGED ME FOR A ROOM I DID NOT STAY IN BECAUSE THEY OVERBOOKED!! NEVER STAYED HERE AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO REFUND MY MONEY. Booked a room at this hotel for Saturday night of Labor Day weekend through an online booking service. Received a confirmation on my reservation and paid for the room when I made the reservation. When we arrived that evening to check-in, we were told that they had our reservation, but did not have a room available for us as they were overbooked by 14 rooms that night. They man at check-in pointed to a car parked in the driveway in front of the hotel and said, "Same thing happened to them, they've been out there for 40 minutes looking for another place to stay." I indicated that I had prepaid for the room and inquired about a refund to my account. He went on the computer and indicated that he had taken care of it and that I would not be charged. The next day, my credit card was charged for the room. I tried calling the hotel and they did not answer. I contacted the online reservation service and requested their assistance. They tried to contact the hotel and had the same experience - no answer. They said they would get back to me via email after they were able to contact the hotel. When the online reservation service was able to contact the hotel, they refused to refund the charges - I NEVER STAYED HERE BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HONOR MY RESERVATION. read more

Do not stay here. We checked in at 6pm because the line was too long at the normal check-in time of 4pm. We still did not get into our room until 7pm because the room they were originally going to put us in would have been "inhumane because it smelled so bad". These are the words of the front desk worker who ended up cleaning our room himself. Once we got to our room it was seedy as heck, in the very back of the hotel where people are living full time. There was loud music and barking dogs and the front desk even sent a hotel guest (living there) to check if we were in the room we were assigned because they were trying to give it to other guests, very uncomfortable. Also the room was in poor condition, splattered paint on the walls of the bathroom and floor and a very dirty tub. Also there were left over food wrappers on the ground and stains/rips on every piece of furniture. There was no deadbolt lock on the door as it looked like the room had been broken into at some point because the molding had a huge crack in it. Showered with our shoes on. What a great little set up: a 5 star review for a 2 star hotel. Perks: - Price: Stayed for 3 nights and got the special weekend rate of $80 per night. - Location- easy to get to Burlington's gems (Flatbread, Blue Cat, Red Rock Park, Single Pebble) - Dog friendly ($20 per night per dog) and easy grassy areas nearby (not on property) for them to be walked. (Side note: Please, pet owners be responsible- ALWAYS pick up after your dogs! had a couple gross step ins when it was dark). - Dog friendly, V2: In rm 167, the nook where the refrigerator was also had the perfect amount of space for our two dog kennels for when we were not "home". I'm not sure if every pet friendly room had that but may be good to ask if you need that space. - Gym- husband kept to his lifting weight routine with all their machines. For me, one of the treadmills didn't work but the other one did, as did the elliptical (press start before playing with the resistances). No one else was there so we could also watch whatever we wanted during the workout. - When headed back on the road, was offered a fresh coffee (thanks Sam!) - Balcony also nice for natural light- I understand that some of the non-pet friendly rooms on the higher floor have a little view of Lake Champlain - TVs were well sized- not so big as to junk up the hole room- just right. - Printer in lobby really helped with having maps for montreal (i.e. without cell/navigation service). - The front desk help (Danielle and another D-gal) were always friendly Recommendations: - Would be nice if they used organic cleaning products and offered organic products for the soap/shampoo. - Ditto for breakfast- though I was grateful for seeing one organic banana read more

I have stayed here in the past when it was the Travelodge I believe. We spent a weekend in VT and we decided on here. It is now the Quality Inn.My husband forgot to mention the dog originally and we were on the second floor. When I reminded him and he told the front we had to move to another room after already settling in. It was a pain but the manager was nice enough to comp us the pet fee. We have had no problems here. Staying in November the pool and hot tub were all ours. My three year old seemed to be the only child there! Breakfast was...ehh. The make your own waffle were awesome but can't say that about anything else. The skim milk was sour, the Apple juice fermented, and the oj was concentrate. Yuck. This hotel is pretty nice for the price (I stayed in the winter so prices are probably lower). The two staff members that I dealt with were very helpful and courteous. The room was clean and mostly well-maintained. I didn't use the fitness room but checked it out; it's better equipped than most hotels of that size. I did not take advantage of the breakfast so cannot comment on it. read more

Friendly service gave us good deal and are pet friendly too. Room was clean but the cleaner they use is so powerful you can taste it, as the previous viewer had said. We did come in right after it was cleaned. One odd thing is that you can't close the curtains just shears so not really private or dark, this is a first, have never had a room you couldn't close the shades. Breakfast was okay read more

Quality Inn on Shelburne Rd in Vermont is one of the best hotels I've stayed at EVER. It has been consistently been great for over decade. The rooms, grounds, lobby, pool and breakfast area have always been clean and well maintained to point where you forget "you are not home." I'm serious I woke this morning and thought I was home the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was hot, fresh and abundant. Now for the real heart of the place, the welcoming staff; from the owner to Eve from the front desk we were so relieved to be greeted so warmly after a long drive. As if that wasn't enough this morning we were greeted by a refreshing and personable lady named Shannette who gave our day a wonderful start. As a Choice reward member this whole staff including Dana who accommodated us for a late checkout are the reason why I will only stay here when I return to the Burlington area. I look forward to having these kind of stays at your other hotels. read more
