Rotting, dirty, falling apart rubber base trim.
    Mark W.

We did a weekend getaway in the area and this was the only hotel available; there was a reason. The hotel is in need of a desperate make over. Our comforter was stained, the rubber base trim is rotting/falling apart, there was a small roach in the bathroom, and the TV volume only goes to %50. The front desk clerks had an indifferent attitude and were less then helpful. Was $115/night - would not recommend.

Quality Inn, Live Oak, Florida Cockroach infestation

Quality Inn-Live Oak, FL COCKROACH infested Dishonest & Deceptive I was heading to the QI to rescue some of the stray cats roaming around the hotel when my car broke down in a very bad area of Tampa. I had car repaired the next day and I finally arrived to hotel in Live Oak sometime during the AM hours. I told the clerk that I was the lady that was coming for the cats but I needed to get a room because I was very tired. I had not slept for over 48 hours. I also asked for a late checkout and he said yes, he could give me an extra hour, which would be at noon. I drove around back to my room, was greeted by the cats and finally made it into my room. I walked over to the nightstand to set my keys down and I saw all the cockroaches. They were crawling up the wall next to the headboard and the nightstand was covered with them. I grabbed my dog and we got out of the room ASAP. I did not want another room there, chances are likely the entire hotel is infested as well. I was way too tired to drive anywhere else so the only option was to sleep in my car. I also figured it would be safer to move my car up by office instead of sleeping in the back parking lot. When I pulled up there, there were quests inside talking to the clerk so I thought it would be better to wait until they left before I went into informed the clerk. I assume they were all friends because they were talking quite a while and I ended up, falling asleep. BANG...I was woke up by ridiculous and uncalled for, aggressive "cop knock" on top my car. THE HOTEL CALLED THE COPS ON ME. The hotel and officer knew who I was and that I had paid for a room there yet I was scolded and interrogated for "sleeping so late" (it was still the AM and what do they care?) Next I was ordered to get inside and return my the key cards, so I did. The clerk that called the police on me, said nothing to me at all about it. She did not say why she called the police on me and didn't indicate she was perhaps concerned about me. Her immature facial expressions and mannerism indicated she wasn't very sophisticated but luckily she doesn't work for me. She actually looked at me like I caused the problem! I handed her the key cards, told her the room was infested with roaches and I would like a refund. Her exact words back to me were, "the room was cleaned and the maid said she didn't see any". (So how did the maid know what to look for and why would my room have been cleaned that early?) I said, I don't know how she could've missed them and I would like a refund! Next she tells me she can not give me a refund, that I would have to call the manager for that. So, I call the manager and she tells me the only way to get a refund is to ask for it before I checked out. Both of their stories contradicting each other, implying I screwed up my refund and still refusing to refund my money. After reading some reviews, it looks like they have that scam down. Sadly, I wasn't able to help the cats and they missed out on getting homes. I can't believe what shit show this entire experience ended up to be. I paid $150 to get a few hours sleep. They sent me in to sleep with cockroaches, I ended up having to sleeping in my car, I'm rudely woke up by an over caffeinated cop yelling at me for sleeping at a place people go sleep at and I'm kicked off the property before check out time for NO REASON and denied a refund by dishonest staff. I did not break any laws but Quality Inn sure did.

    Rusty looking room number

An old property that was given a small facelift, but still feels old and rundown.ore of an 80 dollar motel instead of what they charge.

Sandy checked us in and she was so nice and friendly. The rooms look kinda old, but clean. The breakfast was alright. The juice and yogurt tasted kinda funny. This hotel was the only one with a room available. Overall everything was okay.

Suwannee River Rendezvous - Dirty coffee pot

    Suwannee River Rendezvous

My wife and I arrived Friday afternoon for our tent camping weekend at the Suwannee River Rendezvous. The three-hour drive to Mayo wasn't bad from Tampa. Check-in is at 2pm. We arrived around 5pm. The place can be a tight squeeze around the office, even with a small pick-up truck and it is pretty hilly! My wife and I walked in to the office and a friendly woman behind the desk got us all set up in a matter of minutes. Soon, we were on our way down to our site. The tent locations in the lower rendezvous area are nice but not all that spacious. They are manageable and are limited to one tent each. I think majority of their visitors come in RV. Our primitive spot was up on a hill, overlooking the Suwannee River, which was beautiful. We got our tent set up in the only spot that it would really fit. We had a fire pit and a picnic table. A long trail goes all along the river and luckily, not many people were wandering around. Otherwise, we would have had many travelers passing through our campsite all day. My wife's parents ended up having to change their site because their camping set up is little more elaborate. They would not have fit comfortably and also would have had to climb up a steep hill to get to their site. Once settled, we set about to explore. They have a convenient lodge area complete with a mini convenience store. If you forgot anything, they have it. They offer games and other activities. They have a take a book, leave a book section and a kitchen that cooks food. On our first night, we played bingo. My wife and I won $70 on one game. Our two night stay was only $58 so, in theory, they paid us to be there. We visited family over in the RV park area which was relatively quiet and nice. This is where you can find showers and a catch-and-release pond. The showers are little ways away from the lower rendezvous. They were clean though and private since it's just a single shower inside a locked bathroom. On Saturday, we went kayaking on the river. I rented a kayak for $25 for the day. They offer a service to drive you up river and drop you off but we did that ourselves since we had a trailer. 2.5 hours later, we were back! The river is beautiful and quiet, although, this time of year, no wildlife at all. Saturday, we also participated in the pigeon races. For $5, you get a to pick out a pigeon and if it's the first to fly back, you get a prize. A fun activity. We also played redneck bowling which, if you ask me, was a pretty nifty invention. There is a crank you turn to set up the pins and a mechanism on a pulley to return the bowling ball. Pretty cool and a lot of fun! All in all, this place was a good time. For us, we like to be a little more "off-the-grid" as they say. This was a good balance. The primitive campsite area was secluded and didn't receive cell service or the wifi provided from the lodge. However, a 2-minute walk and we could get internet, a cup of coffee and a bathroom. My wife and I would definitely go back here. The staff we encountered were nice for the most part and at least for mid-February, the camping side wasn't all that busy.

Coffee pot was dirty and even after cleaning the pot there were black particles coming out of the coffeemaker. Did not even sleep in the sheets and the towels were really old and questionable. Controls for A/C and heat aren't even reachable. The firewood they sell would not burn. It was just a very run down place and the cabin left us totally sceeved!

My point is that you'll have to drive two hundred miles across two states to find anything comparable to The Grady House.
