The room was very clean, and the hotel itself was very quiet. Rooms seemed quite soundproof, though it was not full when we were there. Breakfast was good with lots of hot options (eggs, meat, and baked cinnamon rolls) and the pancake maker on demand a highlight. Every time we have strayed from Marriott I have regretted it. Not this time. We would absolutely stay here again.

From the moment you walk in the door on day one, until you leave the Inn on the last day, Chris and Moe are very generous and gracious hosts. The Inn is charming, comfortable, clean, breakfasts are delicious, home made cookies in your suite, as well as, in the evening, Toby (the Inn's beautiful dog) is very inviting and loves attention, to contacting a local historian for our group to learn local and family history and the list goes on and on. If it would have been a one night stay I could have overlooked most of the issues, but it wasn't, so I didn't. Initial: room reeked of mildew. I combatted this by using housekeeping's odor eliminator spray (I used a lot) and kept the a/c fan on the entire time I was in the room and that seemed to at least keep the smell knocked down. The bathroom was basically a disaster. The toilet was unacceptable: small, cracks and marks on the seat, way low to the ground. Grouting/sealing at the base was discolored and peeling away. Shower head was unacceptable. Non-maneuverable, poor water dispersion, poor water pressure. No stopper/plug in the bathroom sink. Window was unacceptable. Almost like it was stained or something. There were what appeared to be nicotine stains (drips) on the wall across from the bathroom. Carpet had spots/stains. Door was drafty. The smoke detector was literally hanging by wires from the ceiling. Service was hit or miss. I was told upon check-in that my room would only be serviced every 3 days. Which I thought was odd, but whatever. Third day rolls around (Saturday) I had the "do not disturb" sign out (I forgot); housekeeping didn't knock, didn't ask, just slid a note under the door saying (in essence) since I had the do not disturb sign on the door, they "didn't disturb" So it was 5 days until I got fresh towels. It took a day or more extra until my trash was taken out and the bed was made for the first time. I voiced all my complaints (about the condition) to the hotel the day after I checked in when they texted me and asked me about my stay. Hotel said they would follow up with me, that never happened. Contacted Choice Hotels corporate and told them everything (and sent photos) and that seems also be a dead-end. All in all this was a most unpleasant and unacceptable experience. I would not recommend this hotel, I would not recommend the Choice brand (which encompasses a lot of different hotel brands) and I definitely would not repeat.

There's laundry facilities on site and they offer a pool and small exercise room. The room itself is great for me because I need to be able to cook. Full size fridge, stove, and basic dishes and cookware to get you started. They clean rooms every day (unless you want less, like me) and change sheets weekly during your stay. The A/C and climate control works great. The Wi-fi fast on my laptop but doesn't work so well on my phone for whatever reason unless I go outside. I would have given an extra star if the pool/exercise room was open past 5pm and on the weekends. That's kind of a bummer for those who are here for a while and working the hours those amenities are open. Otherwise this place completely fills my needs and more. We are in the Conley room this visit on the first floor. Very accommodating, spacious, quiet and comfortable. We had dinner in the main dining room with another couple who are also here but in the Madison room, which is where we stayed last time and on the second floor just above where we are staying now. There is a small elevator that goes up one floor. Fully Covid vaccinated individuals are welcome without masks. Dinner was excellent and Michelle the proprietor, served us beef filet with a wonderful mushroom and balsamic sauce over garlic asparagus. A side of horseradish potatoes was very tasty. Dinner is an extra. The stay comes with breakfast each morning served between 8-845am. We are here for three nights. The breakfasts are wonderful. On our first morning Michelle, the "Commander in Chief", made her special BLT which was unique and delicious. Brett, Michelle's husband was not here during most of our stay. We did catch up with Brett on our last day. Michelle & Brett lease the property from the Foundation that owns the place and they run the B&B business of leasing the house. There is coffee, water and soft drinks available on both floors of the house in side rooms set up for that purpose and space for some work needs. We are both retired. There was a bit of maintenance work going on during our stay and they were preparing for Saturday and Monday weddings. None of that detracted from our stay. The former slave quarters and kitchen outbuildings have been renovated and restored since our last visit. The caretaker cottage is updated but not occupied as Michelle lives in the main house. We took a paranormal tour with a local specialist and visited the basement and summer kitchen outbuilding, where remnants of spirits have been observed in the past. We did not encounter any but did hear two voices at one point. The tour was $25/person. There are many historical sites, wineries and breweries to sample in the immediate area. Amazing how many of our Nation's founders came from this part of Virginia. We learned that John Wilkes Booth met his demise just down the road, as did Stonewall Jackson. We always like heading over to Colonial Beach for a few hours. Michelle explained that there are ghosts in the house and on the property, 83 we are told. My wife loves that stuff but we have not seen any ourselves. Last visit we took a private tour as we were the only guests. The house is fully occupied this time with 8 guests. Value is very good. For three nights, with three breakfasts included $175/nite +. We love the history and the solicitous folks who run the place and will likely return at some point. Nancy & Mark.

The rooms were setup beautifully with lovely tea services. Delicious tea sandwiches, scones and desserts. Belle Grove sells various teas and you can spend the night on the property. They have several fun events scheduled throughout the year. We definitely want to return to this historic place.

ROACH INFESTATION & UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE*…read more I'm still fuming after my recent stay at Red Roof Inn Dahlgren! The room was infested with ROACHES. I'm not talking about one or two - I'm talking about multiple roaches scurrying around the bathroom. I recorded a video as evidence and showed it to the front desk clerk, who assured me they'd refund my money. That was FIVE DAYS ago. Despite multiple phone calls, I've been completely ignored. No response, no refund, no apology. Unbelievable. If you value your sanity and a clean place to rest, AVOID THIS HOTEL. The lack of accountability and customer service is appalling. *UPDATE:* If you're from the hotel management, please get your act together and refund my money. I've done my part to warn others.
