Super 8 by Wyndham Morden - Guest room

Super 8 by Wyndham Morden

The location included the basic Super 8 amenities including breakfast. The desk was run by Hospitality graduates (very educated!!) And I really like how the view was picturesque to the area : FARMLAND. I'm glad I didnt get complaints when I returned to my room in mud boots. The room did its job, place to sleep, place to wash the ticks in my hair, place to wash my mud boots, place to eat..place to stay while I enjoyed what Morden had to offer.

However, the staff and management took a dislike to us from the moment we booked and were nothing but rude and curt during several interactions. I understand that being a large group we were not exactly low maintenance, but hotel staff should not grumble and get mad at you for requests. When I called a few days after our stay to get a reprint of the final bill for the group, I was refused and hung up on. I suppose this is the best hotel you're going to get for the area, but still, Brittany and the entire management team need a lesson in customer service and general politeness.

However, the parking lot is very small maybe 15 cars would fit in it. Your parking is not guaranteed. If you go out for dinner and the parking lot is full you have to park on the street even though you paid for parking. Parking spots cannot be reserved. The fact that it isn't very clear on the website and they can't guarantee parking for such a large hotel is disappointing to say the least. I told the front desk I will not stay here again. It should be noted that the lot is heavily monitored, and you can be towed from the lot if you're not registered with the hotel or a nearby business. The room is large and clean.

Granted, this was after being told they were going to upgrade us to a river-view room, and then when we went to get the keys to move our stuff they took that back saying they didn't have a non-noisy river-view room. We did manage to get spots in the parking lot on the following two nights, but only barely - getting the last spot each time. They have less than twenty spaces so you need to get lucky. Honestly outside of the specific things I've listed I liked everything else about the Mere. However, would I stay here again? No. Even the "quiet" AC room they moved us to was still noisier than I'd like, and the parking situation is abysmal. When I'm vacation I shouldn't be having to game whether it'll be okay to drive somewhere because I might not be able to park again when I get back.

We stayed in Grand Forks and the 1 hour commute was somewhat tolerable in the morning going to work, but after an 8-10 hour work day the commute back was brutal. On the next trip up I decided to see where else I could stay. Google maps showed the Red Roost Motel in the small town of Pembina. I called the number and spoke to Lyndi. She was so nice. She told me they were the owner operators and live on the property out front of the Motel rooms. She told me they had recently completed many updates to the Motel. I decided to stay there because I didn't want to have to deal with the 1 hr commute to Grand Forks. She told me more about the little community of Pembina. There is a real nice recently renovated bar and grill called the Bridgestone that are separated by a connecting wall and the Grill area has a covered outdoor seating area that looks out into a wooded park. There is a small grocery store caddy corner from the Red Roost that has pretty much anything you would want. Across the street there is Trails End a small but well stocked hardware store. They also rent and can deliver a scissor lift if needed. I stayed a few days at the Red Roost and I enjoyed it very much. The room was fresh and the bathroom was recently retiled and nicely appointed. The towels and linens fresh and comfortable. They have a mini fridge and microwave and an Internet TV you can watch your own shows on if you like. I also recently made another trip up to Pembina for an update the our border crossing equipment. I stayed at the Red Roost again and Lyndi was excited to show me they now had a mini apartment on the property. It has a well appointed kitchen and a good sized Full bed and two Twin beds. The beds are new and comfortable. I love this little community of Pembina. Everyone I have met her is soo nice. I'll be staying here anytime I'm working in the area. Give them a try, you will be happy you did.
