    Pool and hot tub
    Michelle C.

Worst hotel experience I've had. Let me first say the staff was very nice. I think they did great and probably need more support from owners/corporate. The hotel itself is disgusting. Sorry but there's no nice way to put it. For $90 a night, per person, my coworker and I each got a king size room with a jetted tub. My room had no number on the door- A lot of doors were missing some or all numbers. On entering my room, the light switch didn't work. It didn't control a light- there was no light around. My coworkers room had a light in the entryway so my room's light must have been overlooked? The bathroom is small and outdated, but served it purpose- shower (I wouldn't dare use it as a tub- it's small and the floor had those dirty-looking no slip strips), sink, toilet. There were fresh towels. They don't replace or launder them until the 3rd day so I used the same towels my entire stay (3 days). Fine by me. My bathroom had no fan; my coworker's did. The jetted tub in the bedroom is weird and looks out of place. Just kind of randomly next to the bed. Whatever. The light above it did not work. The jets did not work. So it's really just a big, deep bathtub next to the bed. Based on the smell of the room, I had no desire to even try it out. The room itself smelled like it used to be a smoking room and they never replaced the carpet or paint when it changed to non smoking. It got very humid in there, even with the air running. The air did come out nice and cold, though. It also helped drown out the noise in the hallway. There were a couple rooms around me that had people living in them. I know this because they would be in the hallway making noise at all hours. The second night of my stay they woke me up at 5:30 with all of their noise- arguing or laughing, I was too exhausted to tell. I was able to fall back asleep after they quieted down, but not before finding a bug in the bed as well as a short, curly hair. (Yep, that kind). The third and final night of my stay, the local residents of the surrounding rooms were leaning against my door and chatting at 11 pm, during which I learned a lot about their life stories. One of them had gotten rear ended, another was impressed with the hotel and how quiet it was (the irony, right?), and the two younger girls (a teen and preteen) were just happy to be awake so late and laughing and looking at pictures on one of the women's phones. I ended up calling the front desk and told them to come ask them to be quiet. We found a sketchy storage room inside the back entrance, people piled used towels and garbage bags full of trash outside their rooms in the hallway, a door that said it was to always remained shut and locked was propped open for the first day or two of the stay so smokers could get in and out easily. My coworkers room key didn't work the first morning. She got a new one from the front desk only to discover the entire key reader was dead. A nice maintenance gentleman replaced the batteries and commented on how often he had to change them. On the third night my room key didn't work and I had to go back down to get a new one. We didn't use the pool. The hot tub was roped off with caution tape. The vending machines were mostly out of stock, and they have a claw machine by the pool that was broken. Breakfast is free but you're only allowed one breakfast, so don't think you're getting an all you can eat type setup. The food is not good and if you didn't get everything you wanted on your first order, you're out of luck.

This place is infested with cockroaches and bed bugs. The vents have black mold growing out of them, the comforters do not get washed unless physically dirty. This place is disgusting.

You get more than you pay for here as the rates are downright cheap. Clean though small rooms. Friendly staff. Breakfast included.

Upon arriving, there's no one at check in. They leave your name and room key in an envelope at the front desk. I guess I'm not use to this, but it was late and I just wanted to get into my room. I had a room on the 2nd floor. It was great and very comfortable. Lots of space for 1 person. The room had a mini fridge that had several water bottles, sodas, fruit, yogurt. It was very accommodating that they provided that for their guest. One evening it was raining and I was caught in the rain.. my clothes were drenched and I decided to do laundry. It was very easy to use and I found it super convenient. I loved Hotel Sterling and will probably be back when I'm in town again.

We heard people later on that night coming and going, but never saw another soul. We had the curb-side room since my wife was on crutches. The parking is great and free. The service, while almost invisible is excellent. The rooms are outstanding. The price is reasonable. The in room refreshments are free. I only wish we could stay here more often. My one complaint has little to do with the hotel. Downtown Monroe isn't doing great and some of the shops and eateries nearest walking distance were closed. But it's Monroe. You can drive across town in 5 minutes.

A must stay for fishermen and anyone who wants to be close to Sterling State Park!…read more Super comfy beds! I stayed in one of the suites on the third floor. Easy to see the whole parking lot so if you bring your boat you can watch it all night! ( but you shouldn't have to! The staff is super savvy and will help you take care of all security issues.) Plus will point out all the best places to visit while in town! Great breakfast buffet, courtesy of Brenda and Robin. Brenda has Cracker Barrel experience and is a stickler for quality. Robin is a hoot! She and i traded war stories. Laundry room on the 3rd floor. Snacks by the front desk. Pet friendly. Shares grounds with hotel next door so you can go there for a change of place! Nice grounds to walk and some good restaurants nearby. There is a large erase board in lobby with suggestions. Plus daily water temp and weather conditions. Some of the locals hang out there and will tell you if the fish are biting! If you want something fancy and a real good steak, Angelo's opens for dinner at 4. It's in the old Bob Evans building. The Kroger nearby has lots of reasonably priced provisions, plus they mark stuff down for manager specials early so you can get stuff for the boat and be on your way! The hotel staff can give directions. There is also a place close that will clean the fish before you leave Michigan and go back home. In deer-hunting season, they will help you get that buck ready for the freezer! The River Raisin Battlefield is nearby as is the Vietnam Memorial. Their are lots to do even if you don't fish! Check out the Phoenix Theatre for first run movies or the restaurants on Telegraph in Monroe. We have a real cool Spanish restaurant that does authentic tapas! And a St.Julian winery in nearby Dundee that has tastings on the patio! Fancy!!! A1 AUTO in town can help w/ car repairs( if needed) and Discount Tire can help you get new ones if it's your 4 wheeler that wants some lovin'! Cindy Gallup was the manager when I was there. She might still be there. I will see if there have been changes and update!

I had a cheese omelets, oatmeal and a waffle but they had cereal, bagels, scrambled eggs, pancakes, muffins, rolls, pastries, and juices and yogurt and really anything you could ever want! Really close to a shopping mall and pleanty of food options. I really enjoyed my stay and I will definitely be back!

The rooms were compact and comfortable but oh-the bathroom is simply horrible. The toilet is tiny and low profiled. its a looooooooong way down to get to this toilet. Then there is the shower. Its pretty, but the glass wall with no door is designed poorly. Right there is the problem. I seemed to have water all over the bathroom without stepping out of the shower and with using the bathmat. Like a lot of standing water... so much that the bath mat needed wrung out and I used two towels to soak the rest up. Dislike strongly. We went to the front desk to get more towels and the clerk said "oooooh, you have one of those rooms, here let me give you a bunch and handed us (hand to God) a mound of towels which Im 100% sure will be use all of to sop up water. The kitchenette was great. Compact, but fully stocked with pans/dishes and functional Tv was hard to watch as it was on the side wall adjacent to the bed. It could angle out a bit off the wall but not much. Poor design of that element. Downstairs is a workout room, pool, pantry and bar. the bar was closed. Bar tender called off. Maybe the manager should have worked the bar from 6-9. That would have been better management. Front desk was helpful and efficient. There is a pool. Kids dripping in the elevator said they loved it. Happy kids is a nice thing. Added bonus, there is a nice patio with a fire pit. That was a huge plus, too.

I on the other hand am in the 3rd furthest from the office and it has a roach problem. I am here on work and have been here for 2 weeks. No problems the first ten days until I went to do laundry and noticed a small roach near my suitcase. After inspecting the room closer I found dog food and hair under the bathroom vanity and bed with many more roaches. I had to take all my belongings and either bag put in trash bags and or throw them away so not to take the creatures home with me. I had to throw my air fryer away because it had legs coming out of the little vents on the sid. I only had 1 week left to my reservation and informed the fr desk of the infestation. They offered me a new room but would not give me a refund. Also during my stay I noticed that the alarm clock in the room working. It has the type of bed frame with the end tables attached with plugs. I opened the hatch where you would find the plugs for alarm clock and it was wired straight to the bed frame wires, with no tape and wires showing. The bad part about it after moving to the new room one night I woke up before work to find out that they had rented the room to and elderly couple visiting family without addressing the roaches nor the electrical fire hazard. I felt bad for them and that is not the right thing to do especially because there were other rooms available.cheap rooms but not worth the hassle of fighting roaches. They only clean the rooms after asking multiple times and do a poor job at that when they do it. Guess they figure if the place burns down it will take care of the roach problem. I will say that while the hotel itself was quite run down and dirty, our bed looked fairly new and clean. The room itself was "clean-ish" - nothing disgusting but definitely not what you'd hope with a hotel. The floor in our room was tile/laminate - thankfully not carpet as I can imagine the shape it'd be in. We as customers were spoken to in a very unprofessional manner by the manager leaving us debating if we even wanted to stay. Very disrespectful towards my wife as she was attempting to relay information as she was the one who booked the reservation. At one point the manger began speaking in his language to another worker and didn't realize my iPhone was translating the derogatory comments he was speaking about us. Yeah, it was odd to watch as someone who just makes insulting remarks about you turn back toward you with a smiling face and offer a full refund if we would like to cancel the reservation after telling his worker to charge the room and if we cancel to let choice deal with our dumba$$ but he personally had no intention of releasing any monies back us. We had King Suite with in room jacuzzi. The room itself wasn't horrible, but not worth the cost advertised. Many cosmetic damages. Hotel in general very outdated and all hallways smelled of strong marijuana. Shortly after finally getting in our room, we noticed the same desk clerk wandering the hall of the third floor pushing a housekeeping cart knocked on a door then let himself in a room several doors down. This seemed off so during our stay we felt most comfortable just taking most of our personal items with us when we would leave. The parking lot literally had bags of trash laying around that people would discard from their vehicles. Location is right beside several cannabis stores and had random people wandering around vehicles in parking lot throughout the night (parking lot view room) Everything about this place will send up red flags about security, safety, and being reputable. I am personally very shocked that this establishment is even listed by Choice Hotels. Breakfast is included but items limited and breads stale. Emergency flood lights not working (tested) after finding annual fire inspection was expired and monthly inspections were not notated on their tags. The pool is heated though we did not swim. This is not an insult to the establishment, rather an honest review on what others should expect up front and an opportunity for the staff and establishment to improve in areas of need so that other reviews are not similar in nature moving forward from future guests. Would likely not return or recommend to others due to our personal experience .
