The wife and I stayed at the Quality Hotel Sainte-Catherine for our first day/night in Bordeaux. Not being familiar with Bordeaux, our selection criteria were price and location. The price was right, roughly 120€ for the night. The hotel was centrally located in what I'd describe as the city's business/shopping district/pedestrian mall with many shopping and dining options within short walking distance. The one negative was that the hotel was not located on a street accessible by cabs or the modern lightrail system that runs through the city. Therefore, our cab from the Bordeaux-Saint-Jean train station had to drop us off near the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux and we had to walk a couple of blocks to get to our hotel. No worries, though, it was an easy walk and the weather was beautiful.
Check in and check out was a snap. The reps at the front desk were friendly and professional. Our room was small, no frills, and unremarkable, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel offered a self-serve breakfast (16€/person) comparable (although I thought a lot higher quality and tastier) to what you'd find in many hotels aimed at business travelers (i.e. Courtyards, Holiday Inn Express, etc.). For the price and proximity to most anything in the city of Bordeaux, Quality Hotel Sainte-Catherine was a near perfect choice for us. read more
