If you like a deep tissue massages don't go anywhere else in the city and ask for David S. (I previously had left a review but the person I went to is no longer here). David is an amazing massage therapist and I've tried a number of places and yet I keep liking the folks I see at Qua Spa best. He will find exactly what your body and muscles need and relax all your tension and undo all your knots. He's incredibly intuitive which is the result of a lot of work on his end. I love finding massage therapists that aren't following a script and David is one of those. So glad I found him and highly recommend. If you are looking for a great massage, go for it! The place is pretty small but the moment you enter, the ambiance and aura will put you at ease. The soothing fragrance and serene music was definitely welcoming. The receptionist also asked me for water/tea/coffee. They gave me a basic form to fill which included what kind of massage I am looking for, is there any medical conditions they should know etc. It also had a human figure to mark which areas I want the masseuse to focus on. Let me just preface that perhaps this was all a fluke and maybe this place just has growing to do.. but man, was it bad. Pros: *my bestie hooked it up on bloomspot for a really good deal for a 60 min massage and foot soak * gave us tea- nice touch *reasonably priced considering its a massage *place is beautifully decorated. Cons: *the girl at the front asked us if we wanted to leave a tip on our credit cards because she is leaving the day. (first of all, two chick and two dudes left without a third party present is NOT safe business, not to mention that you DO NOT ask to leave a tip for services you haven't had yet! THank GOD i didn't do it) * the girl also asked us if we would like some shorts as we were both wearing outfits that were difficult for foot soaking. we said yes. I got basket ball shorts and my friend got these shorts that had HUGE water stains on them. Obvi already used that day. NOT OKAY!! * we get started and the massage therapist said NOT ONE WORD TO ME.. he just started going at it and even though i check *SOFT as my preference .. he went deep QUICK. I was cold the entire time because he never used the beautiful blankets that were under me the entire time!! which i only saw AFTER the massage and my friend looked all cozy in her blankets. * THE DUDE FARTED!! he seriously did. right int he middle of the session and it STUNK!! great ambiance and the staff was very friendly. I opted for a Qua massage because of the additional foot soak. Was it worth it..? Well, personally, I would rather spend less $ and get a full 60-minute full body massage, and pay separately for a foot reflexology service. The whole experience was filled with warm towels (and at times it felt like the towels were placed on me so I could feel good without getting a real massage). I think a total of 10 warm towels were used to relax my muscles.. but I still walked away with the same knots on my back that I walked in with. My massage therapist was very nice, but not sure if she was just clumsy or new.. but she kept dropping pillows and towels on me. It didn't hurt or anything but def disturbed the peaceful environment a bit. Overall.. not worth the price if you are looking to get any knots out of your back / body. I had an appointment for both a facial and body massage on my birthday, thanks to my lovely sister. I was greeted immediately by their staff when I stepped through the doors. Lined on the walls to my right were skincare products sitting on beautiful dark solid wood shelving and to my left, a gorgeous orchid floral piece situated at the reception. After check-in, I was immediately guided to their private room for my body massage. The ambiance was very relaxing and they had the perfect decor setting for an afternoon getaway. After the body massage, I had their signature Oxygen Facial in another private room. In the background they had soothing music playing throughout. I cannot express how rejuvenated I felt afterwards. My skin was glowing!! I was feeling so happy! It was an experience I praised to many of my friends and people in my network to experience for themselves. Lastly, when checking out, I was offered some hot tea from a variety of loose tea leaf to choose from their counter. The hot tea was the perfect touch that warmed my stomach before I step back out to the hustle and bustle of San Francisco. Did I mention how WONDERFUL The Spa smell?!? They spare no details to leave out. Their location is perfectly situated in SOMA. After an afternoon of shopping in Downtown Union square, I parked at the parking structure literally next to their store front for $2/hour while I enjoy several hours of pampering without any worries in the world. I was dropping by in the city and discovered QUA as I was driving past. From the outside it looked like a really cool place and wanted to check it out. After I completed my errands I decided to reward myself for a long day. I really needed a good massage and they delivered. My massage therapist was excellent and really got all the knots out of my shoulder and lower back. I got a sports focused shiatsu massage because I've been feeling sore after my basketball games and it definitely helped. The staff was really nice and the atmosphere was amazing. I got to try a couple of teas before choosing the chrysanthemum tea. David, the masseur was great. He asked me if I had any sore spots and then focused on my back, which I had been tight. Then he after an extended foot massage. Quiet relaxing, almost fell asleep a couple of times. I purchased a membership after the first visit. $79.00 for 75 minutes plus a 15 minute chair massage and 15% off of additional massages each month. Great deal. I've gone to Qua for nearly two years and have only stopped because I moved all the way across the country. In the last month since I've moved to Boston, I still have yet to find a place I love as much as Qua. Everyone at Qua is so so so pleasant and nice and friendly. My is such a chill lady and Sabrina at the front desk is also fun to chat with while I get my manicure with Tina. I pretty much went to Tina every week and it was always like going to a friends house. My also had some fun waxing my eyebrows on one occasion and although I complained like a baby while I was there I got to admire my brows for a few weeks after that so overall I'd say it was worth it. One of my favorite things about Qua is that there isn't a bunch of chaos like one would typically see at nail salons - it's just Tina and it's so peaceful and quiet. The location is pretty small but it's got a real homey-yet-chic feel and definitely has a very private atmosphere. Prices are fair and it didn't hurt that it was right across the street from where I worked. There's always a few spots open for street parking as well (metered). Making appointments is also fast and easy online. Now that I'm in Boston I miss everyone at Qua so much and I can't wait to visit them again when I come home for the holidays! read more

If I could give more stars I absolutely would. I finally remembered to visit Qua Foot Spa. I had learned about them having seen their gorgeous gift certificates donated to a nonprofit I consulted at, and I was so impressed that it only took me 6 months to go!!!! Well, I received the best mani-pedi ever! It wasn't the cheapest and it wasn't the fastest. It was the kind of experience to choose when you have time, and when you really need to be reminded of what the luxury of a lot of time feels like. The atmosphere is sheer peace, elegance, calm and yet unpretentious. Lovely tea, mask for arm and legs, delicious unexpected touches of pampering. The quality of the actual manicure is very high too. Sandy did a wonderful job. Due to some luck, I overheard one of the massage therapists talking to a client in a deeply sophisticated way about solving physical problems. Having spent inordinate amounts of time and money dealing with pain in my body that never, ever leaves, I made an appointment straight away. 3 days later I was back for a Sports Massage with David. In the space of 60 minutes my understanding of my 3+ decades of low back pain was radically altered. David showed me how to truly strengthen my constantly sore back. Next we moved to the constant pain in my shoulder and after a few minutes it was gone. It's still gone. Pain is a strange thing, as anyone who has had the experience of living with chronic pain knows. We become so familiar with our pain, sometimes spending an entire lifetime with something that can have been created in only an instant: an accident, a moment of violence, a sudden shock. After I left today and walked a little, I experienced my body free of so much of the pain I have been used to year in and year out. It was interesting to feel how much less tired I was, and how free my mind was to look around me and notice my environment. Chronic pain demands constant attention, no matter how reluctantly we give it. From reading other customer reviews I am wondering how Qua's owner has amassed such a group of special practitioners, or how she has created this wonderful culture of excellence and transformational healing? The oxygen facial here with My is great! I've been getting facials regularly for years now and My is one of the better estheticians I've had the pleasure of getting a service from. She helped identify problems with my skin and I loved her oxygen facial. Her extractions were also on point and she took out more than most. Came here for a leg wax; it's not cheap but it was close to my office and I needed to save time more than money. The aesthetician dribbled wax all over the place. (I later found big blobs on the soles of my feet!) and didn't clean up after herself. When I crossed my leg over my knee to put my shoes on, wax got all over my light colored pants. She then offered to put *oil* on the cloth to get the wax out. (I declined; this seemed like the height of bad logic.) When I checked out, the receptionist asked if everything was OK. I said, "no, my pants are ruined." She said "sorry" and then proceeded to charge me the full amount. And then she asked me if I wanted to leave a tip! Uh, no. This was my first time to a 'foot spa', so I had no idea what to expect. I booked just the 30 min chair massage on line to be safe. Once I got there I realized that I indeed would prefer to use one of their beds. I asked and they graciously granted my request. The environment was nice, clean, and for the most part...quiet. I will know for next time to ask for one of the beds further back in the room. Unfortunately their service area is close to the middle of the room and, while everyone was being very quiet-there was movement of people, light, microwave, etc. to disrupt a bit. David has very large hands so while doing my shoulders and upper back it felt like he was covering a lot of area. Good 'medium' pressure as requested. Sandy is friendly, funny, and everything I've been looking for in a manicurist/pedicurist, since moving from Southern California, to the Bay Area, two years ago. I started an exciting new job about a block away from QUA, in August, saw the reviews on Yelp, and decided to give them a try. I was beyond satisfied with Sandy's work. My hands and feet feel, and look great! I had an appointment last week, and while my hands and feet look beautiful, I have to post about something that's bothering me. I booked an appointment online for a Signature QUA gel mani/pedi. A woman who I later found out to be the owner greeted me by name as I walked in. What was strange, and made me feel a bit awkward and uncomfortable, was the fact that the owner asked me to pay for services as soon as I sat in the chair. This is why I give QUA a two star rating. This was very tacky and unprofessional. She gave an excuse that she wanted me to pay now, because she was leaving, and would be, "switching drawers" with someone else. I agreed, and she ran the card, and I signed. She then remained in the "spa" for about an hour and a half after that. I have a few reasons running through my head as to why she asked me to pay as soon as I sat down. Maybe it's because I look younger than I am, my color, she thought I couldn't afford a $65 payment, etc. Who knows? I saw other people walk to the counter to pay for their services, after receiving them. I will not support this business any longer, due to the way I was treated. I was a Tru Spa devotee, but I have to say, I am very much enjoying the new digs in SOMA (shhh, don't tell anyone from Tru I said that!). Qua brought over all the services from Tru, and the actual spa itself is beautiful, with the same great quality of service and products. Thank god- finding places in the city that use hard wax for waxing is really hard, and SURPRISE! The prices for treatments at Qua are less than they were at Tru... what?!?! I've had several services here (oxygen facial, waxing, tinting) and LOVE the staff. I booked myself for an oxygen facial as a treat when I wasn't feeling very well, and I couldn't have been in better hands. My esthetician, Allison, did a great job. The thing is... lots of spas can do that. What sets Qua apart from just any other spa in the city (and let's be honest, they're a dime a dozen out there) is that you leave with skin that looks fantastic AND you feel special in the process. Allison was really nurturing and made the effort to get to know both me and my skin, which made me feel really good walking out of there. I highly recommend her if you're booking a facial appointment (and the oxygen facial). ...aaand... online appointment booking and parking in the building take it home for the win. Finally a nice, clean foot massage place in San Francisco! I typically frequent dingy, "hole in the wall" foot massage places because, well, those are the only kind in SF! As you can see, I was excited to finally go to a foot massage place where I didn't have to worry whether or not the tubs were clean or have to smell the chow mien the tech was obviously just eating. Place is serene and nicely decorated. Coming in from the busy streets of SF, it was like walking into another world. I was offered a selection of tea and directed to some nice and pretty high tech massage beds. I was then given one of the most thorough massages I've had in a long time. Qua Spa is an intimate place in the center of the city! Had the most amazing massage! I came in after experiencing pain in my legs from a strenuous run. They first treated me with a hot bath then lay you down in these reclining chairs. My massage therapist listened to my concerns and focused on my problem areas with the right pressure. Another plus is that they fit me in on a last minute manicure appointment. They had been going through a renovation at the time, but were able to still give me the VIP treatment in a private room at the Soma Grand. My nails came out great! When you sign up for a deep tissue massage, don't expect to just lie down and fall asleep and have this zen moment. I mean, I guess you can if you want to, but the masseuses here really know their stuff! They will give you recommendations, suggestions, and ask for feedback to make sure that you get the best out of your 90 minutes. During my massage, Joshua was able to tell how I sat at work and what kind of exercises I might do. He gave me tips on how to keep my muscles moving and explained the science behind it so that I may understand it in depth. He is helping me fix my problems long term as well as short term! I wasn't entirely satisfied with my experience at Qua. Hubs and I were looking for a place where he could get a massage at the same time I was getting my hands and feet pampered. They were offering a deal on a massage - something like $60 for an hour. He says "to be honest, it was 4/5. It wasn't as good as some...but the masseuse was good." The massage price was what sealed the deal for us to go here, albeit the mani/pedi was a bit more than I'd prefer. ($30 for express) What really bummed me out at first was there wasn't a massage chair like I'm used to when getting a pedi. Then two girls sat down in front of me to begin - except they were talking to each other in a language I didn't understand. I might be the paranoid type, but I couldn't help but imagine them saying things about my gross feet or hands. I'm sure they weren't, but it isn't very professional. Especially considering this is more of an upscale place. Because I had two ladies working on me, the tip accidentally was doubled. We felt too guilty to say anything so it is what it is. Front desk service was attentive in offering tea and water and they had chocolates and magazines in the waiting room. I had to look up the word "qua" and I have to say this is the perfect name for this spa smack dab in the middle of SF's SOMA district! I feel it's an appropriate name because I felt like a piece of "art" when I left! This morning I had the "Classic Massage" with Marian and what a treat! This woman knows her stuff and she's very interested in treating any ailment you have. Immediately after telling her my profession as a San Francisco Photographer, she knew where my body needed TLC! She got busy and even taught me some stretch exercises after the session. She genuinely cares and like she said "I've gotcha!" She was right! I wanna go back!!! Loved the hot towels! Then to top it off I finished it off with a spa mani/pedi done by Sandy. I just loved this gal in fact I loved them all! She's very communicative and knowledges about nails toes and the new gel craze and only recommends what's best ... And nothing but the best polishes too!! Love the scrub and arm and leg mask and her touch was golden!! Definitely worth a trip back! I got a deal on Living Social for $79. One hour massage with a mani and chocolate and a whole pound of Starbucks Coffee. The place is small, but super cozy. Bev Y was super friendly and made sure I was taken care of. The chair massage was more like a bed and it was very comfortable. Shenia (wrong spelling...sorry) was amazing! She is a strong lady, but hit all the right spots. She is super nice. You leave your clothes on, but they do ask you if you can take your shirt off as you get through the massage. I didn't want it to end. After the massage, I did a mani and pedi. I just paid the difference. It was pretty fast, but was very good. I did gel mani and I love it. The last place I went to my gel mani didn't even last a week. What a shame. For the pedi, they give you a mask. I never had that before. My legs were smooth the rest of the day. I will be back again. Very impressive for a "foot spa"! A friend and I stumbled upon this place via Groupon Now. We were able to make an appointment the same day! (score) Friendly, welcoming front desk staff. Ambiance is tranquil and staff very professional. I felt very pampered in comparison to other "foot spas". Even though tables were separated by screens, I felt like I had my own private space. Just remember that this is not your standard clothes-off, private room massage. Jan was excellent and worked my neck-tension at just the right pace. Massage was terrible. Rehearsed and not intuitive. The pressure was hard and fast and it just didn't feel good. The masseuse also had a bit if an attitude. And why are you asking me to mark my pain points on the form and then ignore it and do your own thing? And what's with all the hot towels?? Wouldn't recommend getting a massage here. I am staying in the apartment next door during my trip to SF from Toronto and was in a desperate need of a mani/pedi for this summer weather. Sandy did an amazing job with my hands and feet. She puts a lot of pride in her work and her attention to detail is spectacular. I was offered a massage appointment afterwards with Danica as they had a free spot, so I decided to splurge and treat myself to a massage as well. Before I continue, I should mention that I already go to regular massages at the Shangri-La and Ritz Carlton in Toronto, but Danica has been the best massage therapist I have ever had. I mentioned my problem areas (mostly shoulders/neck) to Danica and she worked them out in such a relaxing way. 60 minutes for a massage isn't a very long time but she was able to work on the entire body, right down to the fingertips and toes. I normally do not fall asleep during massages but I was so relaxed that I was on the edge of sleeping. The hot towels were a nice touch. Highly recommend Qua Spa for nails and massages. I booked an appointment through the app massage now. The massage was painful!!! and not on the Goodway!! More then that the masseuse didn't listen to what I ask.. I felt that because I booked it through the app massage now they treat you different... Which is pretty sad. I called them a day after because I couldn't move my back which means that I lost a day off work because of that massage! John Manager was very nice and called me to ask what happened. I told him everything and they books for me a 30 minutes massage on the chair. I came for the massage and waited about 30 minutes for the masseuse which she never showed up. Who would have thought that you can find a foot spa under $40 in SOMA. I've always been going to the Richmond, Japantown or Chinatown to get my foot massage but not any more. Qua Foot Spa is clean, modern and nothing like those dingy foot spa that you around the city. You are greeted by a helpful staff when you first walk in. Helping you choose the different foot spa treatment and the accommodating tea. The foot massage is about 60 mins long focusing mainly on your feet but they will also focus on any other sore spot that you might have. The masseuse are very attentive and making sure you are relax and enjoying your treatment. The two things I like the most are the tea that comes with your spa treatment and the massage table. The tea selection is amazing, there's this one tea that smell like chocolate and coffee. Will definitely try that tea the next time I go. Also, say good by to those old massage chairs. If you're high maintenance then maybe this place is not for you but for someone like myself, this place is great. As a single mom with lots of bills to pay, I RARELY treat myself to mani/pedis or massages because I feel guilty about spending money on myself but I'll be honest, I DID NOT regret spending money here at Qua Spa :) Beginning from the front, Samantha was very nice. She answered any questions that we had for her. My massage therapist was Danica and she was great. She applied the perfect pressure to all the areas I asked her to concetrate on. As written in a previous review, I recently had a nervous breakdown over the loss of my ex-roommate Allen C.'s reviews because he was writing too damn great on yelp so they had to shut his account down. A friend called me and told me to check out Qua the Spa, because he somehow had a feeling that this would possibly speed up the process of moving on from the loss of Allen C.'s reviews. When I entered this location, the interior looked pretty cool. It was definitely a quiet relaxing area and I was told to be quiet and settle down because I am a very loud person, or as the teenagers would call it these days "HELLA RATCHET" Johnathon welcomed me into Qua the Spa with very kind words and had me sign some forms before my appointment. I really didn't know what kind of massage I wanted, but Johnathon asked me several questions and knew exactly what I wanted and needed. I can tell that Johnathon is very knowledgeable in what he does. After signing forms, my ashiatsu from Melanie went very well. She noticed that my back was VERY tense. It was probably from all the nagging from my wife Stephanie W. telling me I need to visit her more often in the city. Well shoot, I didn't know you were back in the bay! I'd be down to hang out with you and Nancy W. and start our TV show called FU Bay Area with Allen C. joining our panel where we review things. But I digress. So back to my back. My back was very tense but Melanie worked it out as well as the rest of my body. She was completely professional and is very nice, making sure I was comfortable with everything. After the hour was over, she told me to take my time getting up. I got up very slowly, processing what just happened with my massage and it just felt awesome. As I got back to the lobby, Melanie had a cup of water ready for me. WOW THANK YOU MELANIE! It's like she knew I was thirsty. (No jokes please) This was my first time being at a spa and it was my first time getting an ashiatsu. It was definitely amazing and now I feel like I need to come back.
