If I could give zero stars I would. I hired the firm to draft a QDRO. Almost immediately, I expressed my concerns that my ex-husband was dragging his feet on producing the paperwork. Deisy (the paralegal) assured me that it didn't matter because the money would be calculated based on the date of the divorce. Over the next nine months she would repeat this same line "we'll just have to stand by"
Initially saying they represented both of us but later changing that statement to "they didn't represent either of us"
She was the only person I ever spoke to and I always felt she was curt when I called and biased in favor of my ex. The last few emails between us were to tell me that the division of assets were being based on some random date nine months after the divorce.
According to her, a Mr Crane (no indication that he was an attorney) had made that decision. I had NEVER once heard that name in any previous correspondence but I thought his name sounded familiar. I asked Deisy directly if he was in fact an attorney and she confirmed that he was. After a few days, I was pretty sure the name was familiar because he had done some prior work for my ex; either as his attorney for his previous divorce or at a minimum was involved with the drafting a previous QDRO from that divorce. Suddenly it was all clear to me; the bias I felt, the brush off I experienced each time I called, and the reoccurring "we'll just have to stand by" statement.
I also discovered this attorney had scheduled calls ex parte to "walk my ex through the paperwork" which Deisy claimed was so they wouldn't have to take the time to explain it all to me. There were also the trail of emails sent to me much later that I had "mistakenly" been left off of.
Attorney Crane called me to insist he had done extra work for me as a "courtesy" which I thought was absurd since he had CLEARLY only done extra work for my ex to protect HIS interests. He tried to explain why he calculated the numbers the way he did but the explanation was like Joe Biden giving numbers to the media: WORD SALAD. He was rude and continually talked over me then finally said "if you don't like it, go back to court and get an order"
My divorce decree stated the QDRO was to be drafted 30 days after the date of divorce (they were hired 4 months prior to that) not some date the firm decided that clearly violated the decree and favored one party. I asked him to put the reason for the date of the division in writing but he refused. That only solidified the fact that he didn't think what he did was right either because he refused to stand by it in writing.
This firm is unscrupulous at best and borders on unethical at worst. If you need a QDRO, protect yourself and go elsewhere. Just an additional caveat, the first QDRO that was through PERS, took almost an entire year because Deisy kept "missing my emails"
I have no doubt that some PR person from their office will write some defensive rebuttal but I assure you it's more about their image than it will ever be about the truth. QDRO masters is a division of Willick Law Group, I would avoid them too. read more
