What a great addition to the Bay Area radio landscape! For the longest time, Northern California has suffered from a lack of variety on the airwaves, and this new station has come to save the day. Playing a blend of throwback hip hop and R&B mixed in with popular hits from today, Q102 is a refreshing break from the same old, same old from the likes of KMEL, Wild 94.9, Movin' 99.7, etc. Now, I am certainly not one of those old curmudgeons who vehemently blasts the (lack of) quality of music today, but you must admit, a lot of the stuff out now is absolutely abhorrent (that Tuesday song has got to be the most horrible sound to pierce my eardrums since that one terrible MIA song from Slumdog Millionaire with the random gunshots). To spare my sanity, I've been frequently using the Tune In Radio app to stream the finest old school hip hop station in the nation, 93.5 KDAY in LA (http://www.yelp.com/biz/93-5-kday-los-angeles?hrid=b68FRyTzDPGxl5Lb1ILddA), but Q102 just might start inching up towards the top of my list. When the likes of LL Cool J - Around the Way Girl, Public Enemy - Can't Truss It, EPMD - You Gots to Chill, Da Brat - Funkdafied, Bone Thugs 'n Harmony - First of the Month, Tevin Campbell - I'm Ready, and Hi-Five - I Like the Way all come blaring through your Alpine deck... back to back to back, you KNOW it's time to keep that dial on lock. However, the reason why I can't give a full five stars is that indeed, in order to pay the bills, Q102 has to throw in the occasional Iggy, Drake, Big Sean, and whatever else is the flavor of the week nowadays. It's a small price to pay for the opportunity to be graced with the classic hits I haven't heard since high school. With how cutthroat the radio industry can be, who's to say how long Q102 will be able to survive, but I am glad that finally someone is willing to break free from the monotony. Just as I said in my review of KDAY, Q102 is the "ish!" read more

Q102 FM - Radio Stations Near Me - San Francisco, California

I know I know... 1 star; WHAT THE?!! I have my reasons. The music played on the station is dope. I can't deny that. But, if you make promises to your listeners...keep them. I have reached out to the station, to customer service telephone line, and by email. BUT no response. I have yet to receive the tickets I won for the Lauryn Hill mountain winery concert. The concert is in 3 days. Tickets were supposed to be mailed to me a long time ago (when I won 2 months back) They won't have will call. So why get my hopes up? Why play with my emotions? Obviously I held up my end of the deal. I called and called. Got through to the station. Won. Gave the PR my address and name. I have tried to reach out. Now it's come to this. I had high hopes. Now I'm just bitter. Bye Felecia read more

Q102 hearkens back to the earlier days of hip-hop, soul, and R&B. There's Tupac Shakur with his "California" and Beyonce back when she was part of Destiny's Child https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Js5k8WF9-Bw They call themselves "The Bay Area's Throwback Station",and like 80s-centered 99.3 FM out of Napa, they rely on nostalgia. They have Aaliyah, Ja Rule, Method Man. While their main website touts the latest hits&Sade's comeback, they play music from back in the day. For Q102, it's Throwback Thursday everyday. Fun memories. read more

Q102 is an okay station but their music selection has gotten worse lately. The big issue I have is I won a contest with the station for the first time ever back in January, and I have still never received my prize and probably never will. The station kept delaying for months and then Covid-19 hit and though I understand that may have slowerld things down, the station has a couple months before the pandemic to deliver and other stations are still fulfilling prizes. Also, their response when I call was that of disinterest and like they did not care if they ever met their obligation. The station left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

woo hoo!! I've added another station to my radio presets. One of the great things about getting older is how I don't care about things that I used to be self-conscious about in my younger years. Like being caught singing or dancing in the car. Dude. Q102 is a hokey name. Seriously. Like, it sounds like a corporate national country station with no soul. But my word, do they play great music. It reminds me of the few things my sister and how we celebrate the few things we have in common. Like our similar good taste in music. Q102 is basically the music of my sister and I. Our soundtrack, if you will, for the time when we were younger, our lives were simpler, and my greatest concern was not having hot water if she got to the shower first. The new stuff they mix in isn't so bad either. The name is still terrible though. Skip the morning show. read more

I'm more than disappointed with Q102... Bag the greatest DJs and throwback rap. Ugh!! Sounds like 98.1. Don't get me wrong... I love oldies but goodies but WTF happened?? I literally have to stream a Stockton (100.1 y'all) station to hear the music I like on a regular basis (I hate Stockton) in the Bay. Making us look bad and sooo sad. I can stream all day long but EF Pandora and Spotify. What gives?!! 12+ presets in my car and can't stick with one anymore. The lil' button on my steering wheel fell off cuz I have to rotate so damn much. Even the back ups like 105.7 seems to be all Spanish hip hop now. Was my go to after 102 pussied out. I'm hatin'. Arrgh! I hope tried and true 106.1 can pull through for all of us. read more

I love the new q102 fm. I listen to all types of music, but find when my tuner lands on this station I almost always find myself singing along. They play lots of songs in a row, and when they aren't playing music: they have contests!! Contests that you can totally win if you call in at the right time. Today I was caller 21 as I sat by my pool. We'd just laid down our towels outside and as I set up my shower radio on the chair next to me I heard the magic words: "caller 21 gets free tickets to a special screening of Magic Mike XXL". What, what?! I dove for my phone, dialed in the number, and it started to ring... I first thought maybe I'd dialed wrong, but moments later the announcer was telling me I was the lucky winner. Date night next Friday! My husband is very happy he gets to take me to see this film since he was such a big fan of the first one. Perhaps we'll watch it again before we go and turn our holiday weekend kickoff into a Magic Mike marathon. Dance for us, Magic Mike! Thanks, Q102! read more

This is a cool station for some songs that take me back to a "better" time in life. I would like to give them a higher rating but here's what is holding me back. 1. The lying game in the morning. Sorry but that game is horrible. Then at the end Joey V tells the caller that they have to say "Joey V you lie" before they announce who was lying? Really? Plus it should be "Joey V. you're lying". 2. How many times do they have to play "This DJ" By Warren G. Warren G is the man and "This DJ" is great song but damn 102.1 plays is way too much. 3. How about the other artist from the 90's like DMX, Black Rob, Heiro (the only song played is 93 til, how about other Heiro songs), more songs from other artist from the East, West and South. The only time I heard DMX was in the 5 o'clock traffic mix. Come on 102.1. You guys were doing good when I first tuned in when you really were a new station. Now that you have been airing for some time now change it up. I love Big Pun and Warren G. but play other songs besides still not a player and This DJ. read more

LOVE this station. I used to listen to Pandora most of the time (because I hate adverts) but I got bored. This channel grew on me and before I knew it it was like 'Pandora who'? The mix of throwback R&B and hip hop is excellent, songs and artists I loved then and love more now. Some stuff they play I didn't care for so much back in the day, but now I catch myself knowing all the lyrics and singing way too loud. Q102 please don't disappear! read more

Ok, there are literally thousands of old school Hip Hop & R&B songs out there. Why does this station behave like every other radio station and play the same 10 old songs over and over. Every time I turn to this station I hear. Big Pun not a player or H Town Knockin the Boots. EVERYTIME. There are about 8 other songs that constantly get recycled over and over and over. I do Pandora or Google Play Music 99% of the time in the car but sometimes when the kids are with me I can't be playing Pandora so I turn here and here....BIG PUN AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Q102 is still number one on my list of radio stations but they need to step up their game and broaden their playlists. Seems like they have a handful of songs they play over and over. Lauren Hill, Bone Thugs, and Tupac on repeat. There are so many more awesome throwback artists. Every once in a great while, they'll play an awesome song that gives me that nostalgic feeling again and I'm thinking play another play another but nope, right back to that repeat playlist.. When I first discovered this station a few years ago, the feelings it gave me were amazing and they played a way bigger variety in songs.. I don't work in radio so I don't have the slightest idea in how it all works but something needs to change. I think I have a better throwback playlist on my Apple Music playlist these days.. read more

Q102 RIPOFF on the 4th of July in Philadelphia! You can't bring beer in and that's OK but then at their vendor stands the price is POSTED $8 for domestic. I think they need a dictionary because a local US brewed beer from Downingtown SHOULD qualify for a domestic beer. These clowns from Q102 are charging a dollar more saying it's not domestic. Q102 SUX! The only reason I gave them one star is because I had to to have it post. read more

This best station I've ever heard all music they play I know all there songs I really love the morning show with chuy Gomez and dj mindmotion in the mix and I really like the afternoon show just after I'm off from work. I reallthe the Sunday night oldies from 6-10 best way to end a weekend and I won a lot from this station best station the in the Bay Area read more

this station started off solid! Now it's so much like wild 94.9 I don't even listen to q 102. All of the terrible mixes, same ten old school songs and the Sunday night oldies is definitely reminiscent of 94.9. Your personality has definitely dissipated and now you're just like everyone else. Sad read more

This was my favorite music radio station until they changed the program from Classic Hip Hop to Oldies last week. Sunday evenings was more than enough read more

Shout out to Fresca, Migs (Papalote/Mr. E) and DJ Eternal (Roel) for bringing back all the classics and everytime I'm in the Bay Area visiting -- this is my most trusted brand. They spin a lot of good music on rotation, brings me back to throwback and find myself spitting lyrics and singing throughout. Thanks for making my days on the road driving through traffic better. read more

I think it's despicable that this station built its audience playing primarily black music. My question is to this station. Why aren't their any black DJs on the main morning show and during the work week? So black people are good enough to exploit but not good enough to give jobs? WTF. Thats how you guys roll in 2016? I've wrote to the station numerous time about this matter and never got a response. My next move is to boycott this station. read more

I won tickets on my birthday with Hoodrat Miguel to the Bay Area Vibez Fest and I received a voicemail to confirm my address and called right back 4 times the number I was advised to call, and called throughout the last 2 weeks left messages and emails and with no reply. So I'm still here on the first day of the festival writing this review instead of being there. It's just frustrating when you are really looking forward to something and no one can even contact me back to give an update. Won't be tuning in as much as before read more

Love them! (Maybe I'm a little biased). Great hosts, DJs and mixes, plenty of contest giveaways and more...

Brings me back to my fun high school days when music was still good . Love this station!

Great music and love to listen to Ziri and Joey Vee every morning!!!!! They are always giving away great prizes too!!!!

I've called in on 2 separate occasions and won tickets just to find one of the events had been cancelled and no one even called with information on the other. I posted something on the website and when someone emailed me to say the wanted to make things right and send me to a different event......... Those tickets never came either. This station only gives away false hopes. read more

I live in Sacramento and this stations bleeds in. Sometimes, the reception can be decent (mainly at night) and other times fighting with the 102.1 (pop station) in Chico. But when I hit the bay area, I no longer turn to KMEL, which loves Drake to death. Q102 is the station and a better throwback station than the one out here in Sac (but better than KSFM and Hot 103.5 though). read more

this is the best station in the bay!!!!!!! i love listening to joey v and zuri in the morning there is no other morning show thats better!!!!! plus they are always giving away great prizes including a ton of family four packs!!!!! alot of other stations are really hard to win from but not here. love all of the hosts on this station i do really miss freska that was my girl... but billy is cool too. thanks q102 for giving me a good station to listen to with my sons. read more
