There aren't many good general stores left these days, but this is definitely one of the best that remain true to form. Parking may be tricky on a "busy" day, but there's space down the road and it's good to walk now and then. Lots of food and supplies to choose from. Local maple syrup and other foods are sold here, naturally, and you can get a pretty good lunch too.

Wow. What a beautiful spot. A general store with an incredible view of the falls. We found this place on Yelp and decided to stop for a snack on our way to Lyme NH for a wedding. The store has that small town feel I was hoping for but was jam packed with so much more than I imagined. From a huge beer and wine selection to locally produced goods to sandwiches and in-house made heat & eat items I was truly impressed. If you are driving through the area, I highly recommend stopping here to grab a few snacks for the road! Check out my photos to truly appreciate how beautiful this place is.

The BEST pizza I've ever had! The homemade sauce makes the whole pizza, no matter the toppings. Can't wait to try their full menu! So thankful for the Putney General Store!

Super cute. Super local. Super staff. This was probably my favorite place we visited in Putney! The Putney General Store offers a little bit of everything: grocery, pantry staples, dry goods, beer, wine, deli, sandwiches, coffee and pastries. Though I didn't buy much on our visit, I really enjoyed wandering the aisles looking at all the local options. The cold brew was great - and they have non-dairy milk, which was greatly appreciated! And the pastries were divine. I had already eaten breakfast, but their offerings were TOO GOOD to pass up! The staff were very friendly, helpful and happy to offer local recommendations for activities/places to visit. I will definitely be back when we visit the area again. And if I was local, this would be my go-to!

Oldest general store in Vermont, though rebuilt after a shocking 2009 arson. Great people, food and service.

Found off exit while getting gas but definitely a local gem. Now this is a planned stop going up to Killington for coffee or snack.

FYI. In the past year the building has burnt down. Twice. A new General Store is in the works. The process will take some time.

A great place to stop for a break - the people are great, tea perfect, and the bread and avocado (bread is the best I ever had)

What a wonderful person. She's friendly, helpful and will answer any questions you have. They have a great selection of beer and wine and chilled options available. In addition, they have a case of front with local cheeses and cured meats. The store is in an older house and has a ton of character; wood floors, exposes beams, shelving and racks that fit the style of the house. Give this place a try. It's local, Betsy is fantastic and they have a wonderful selection. The epitome of a wonderful local business.

Being from California, I am spoiled with great wineries and micro-breweries, so when I say this place satisfies, believe it. Besides the great wine and beer, the folks that work here treat you like family. This year I met Kingston and his knowledge of beer is inspiring and his enthusiasm is infectious. He listens and cares about more than just what you are buying. Thanks Kingston. If you have a special occasion, like my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary this year, or an easy and inexpensive weekend at the lake with a friend, you can find wine for both. The 4-pack beers are unique and represent the area and just beyond in a thoughtful way. Stopping here is a must if you want to make it count. And definitely pick up some of their charcuterie ... see what I mean!?

Christian greeted us nicely and recommended certain ways of doing tastings and specs of each. He chatted while making bar menu cocktails for other guests. We each selected a regular flight and a reserve flight to try all their spirit options that we thought interesting. I can't say enough about how very impressed I am with the quality of the bourbons produced here. The double barrel bourbon, a maple bourbon and & a maple rye were all excellent choices on the regular flight menu. I also appreciated Perk coffee liqueur & the flavors and complexity of the Snowdrop gin. ($5 flight) On the reserve flight, friends chose the 15 year angel bourbon, 12 year rye reserve, aged snowdrop gin, and the vineyard rye full strength. ($12 flight) Really can't say enough about the quality that is offered here! Plus the facilities are inviting and I'd enjoy a day on the patio or to hear some music some afternoon, it's a great spot. I highly recommend a stop and purchase here! Cheers.

The lot was small but many people were coming in and out so we didn't have to wait long to get a parking spot or outdoor seating. There are two shops: the deli and market with different vibes and items inside. The market is a quick shop with some snacks, drinks, coffee, and knickknacks. The deli is where the hot/cooked foods are at with some other specialty foods. The food was overall ok, nothing noteworthy. The main attraction is their Mac and cheese that had been circulating my IG feed. Don't think it's life changing but the shops have curated selections of local goods that are reasonable priced to get some last minute treats. Pass on the general tso(?) and the potstickers in my opinion unless you're really craving it. The desserts looked amazing and would definitely get one next time

We were able to get a spot in front with no issue, but I imagine that this was because it was a week day. We chose the Mac and cheese and the maple pulled pork. Both were worth the hype in my opinion. The mac and cheese was super creamy and paired well with the tender pulled pork. The baked goods were nothing to write home about. Maybe we just chose the wrong items? We tried: Oatmeal cookie - good, but not amazing. Chocolate chunk/ peanut butter cookie - stale as heck and basically inedible. I always am leery of saran wrapped cookies that are out on display because its impossible to know if there are actually fresh. The giant stacks of cookies were too enticing to pass up on. The chocolate cookie we purchased was definitely not fresh at all. $3.29 down the tubes - lesson on saran wrapped cookies learned (again). Carrot cake whoopie pie and original whoopie pie - both tasty, but the cake was too thick for my personal liking. We sat in the small outdoor seating area to eat. This was a nice little reprieve from the car ride.
