Having my fourth baby with Robyn at Push has been the most incredibly and empowering experience of my life. The care throughout my pregnancy was unmatched because each appointment whether it was 30 minutes or over an hour was with Robyn! That means I really got to know her as a person, as a mom, and as a professional. I got to create a real relationship with the person who was going to help me deliver my baby. Robyn is so knowledgeable and has a way of making you feel good and confident in every decision you make. During my birth at home, she really let me guide and choose what I wanted every step of the way. It was so refreshing after three births in a hospital. She also had such a calming presence and during my really bad contractions would whisper affirmations and tell me to breathe my baby down. It was so helpful in those moments. My favorite part of using her is the access of care at all times. Whenever I had a question or concern I was able to text her and get help. Even after my son was born she is there for me. One month after birth I got a hemorrhoid and she squeezed me in to check me out immediately. Speaking with her is like therapy for me. Her passion for empowering women and choice is intoxicating. If you are even the slightest bit open to a birthing center/home birth please do research and consider this option. I watched "the business of giving birth" (2008 documentary) a decade ago and this was the start of potentially being open to this option (midwife/birth center/home birth). (Highly recommend this documentary, wish there were more!!!) Robyn is phenomenal. She is an expert. She knows what she's doing and is an excellent midwife and human. Extremely negative experience. As others have noted things were relatively fine until delivery, during which time her personality changed, she left us in the birthing center alone overnight for roughly 6 hours, and then proceeded to recommend us for hospital transfer. Of course things are unpredictable with birth but there was no willingness to negotiate about anything in good faith after we were home with our baby. As the owner of a service based business I'm always willing to discuss partial refunds when I don't render services. Read her contract very carefully because she will abide by every part of it, perhaps without any normal negotiation that would be expected in such a large business transaction. read more

I know that lots of people have had wonderful experiences with Robyn and that she's very skilled. I had my first appointment with her and then decided to switch to a different provider for a variety of reasons, but a big one being that I decided I wanted to deliver in Ventura. At the time of my first appointment, Robyn charged me $500, which surprised me since she had initially told me I would pay as I went for appointments, so that "if you ended up moving to Australia and delivering somewhere else," we'd be be even. Because of that comment, I wasn't expecting to have to pay such a high amount the first visit, but did anyway. She never mentioned it was a deposit or non-refundable. I was really surprised that at the initial appointment she didn't talk to me at all about nutrition and whether I was taking a prenatal vitamin and didn't take my blood pressure or basic vitals, didn't get my weight, etc. I contacted her about a week later because I had decided to change providers. I explained it was due to logistics and based in no way on my actual experience with her--it was nothing personal--but she was quite short with me on the phone. When I asked if she would consider refunding a portion of the $500, she informed me that it was a non-refundable deposit. After I'd had a chance to think, I chalked up the experience to her being tired or something. I emailed and asked if she would reconsider, since $500 represents almost 8% of the total fees ($6500) that she charges for 16 prenatal and postpartum visits, the actual delivery, plus the use of the birth center. Given that, $500 for a single visit that lasted less than an hour doesn't seem reasonable, even taking into account time she may have spent getting me set up in her computer, etc. Her emailed response accused me of asking her to work for free: "My fee's [sic] are paid for my services and for the time I spend seeing patients. You were charged for your first intake appointment and time i spent with you. At some point after that visit, you opted to interview and hire another midwife and start your care elsewhere. My practice is my job, I don't work for free." I'm sure it's totally possible to have a great experience with her, but I was not impressed with the way she treated me, especially when two other midwives told me they were sure she would refund a portion of the payment (before she told me she wouldn't). Even if she was not willing to refund the money, being derogatory about it was completely unnecessary! read more

We made a huge mistake going with another midwife off of Topanga a couple years ago with our first child. It was a shit show safari, to say the least. For our second, we went back to see Robyn and knew that she was the right fit. She is extremely professional, thorough and an all around great person. Hands down, Robyn is THE BEST midwife around. Also, she has a great relationship with the local hospital. Our office visits with her were pleasant. It's very clean and feels very comfortable. During the onset of labor, she was came over to our home without delay. The delivery was amazing and she cleaned the entire room for us before she left. She also accepts Medi-Share! I unfortunately have to agree with the negative reviews listed here. As a first time mom I was really excited to have found Robyn as a midwife since I heard so many horror birth stories of hospital births and my husband and I both really enjoyed our prenatal visits. There were a few visits where she seemed a little busy (always looking on her computer or phone) there were also a few unanswered emails of questions I had, but didn't think much of it at the time, she's very friendly and personable. The day i went into labor and we went to the birth center there was just an uncomfortable/different vibe, I felt she had somewhere else to be. Definitely a different person from my prenatal visits. I just wanted to be in the water, whether it was the shower or the tub, that's where I felt most comfortable and I'm paying for this birthing suite right? But She kept having me get out so she could give me a cervical check. That caught me off guard. Felt like I was on a time clock. I was dehydrated so she gave me an IV and missed my vein about 4 times, another red flag. It was also kind of weird that she asked my husband for our last payment while I was in labor. Seemed a little tasteless on the timing if you ask me but that's my personal opinion. Baby was sunny side up which she never mentioned even though she said she could feel his head when she checked me. She had me pushing for hours even though my body didn't feel like pushing and the baby was still high up. This caused me to fracture my tailbone and I am still doing pelvic floor therapy to heal it (I am now 4 months PP writing this) The only positive thing I can say is the hospital she transferred me to was amazing. Even though I ended up with a c section that I desperately wanted to avoid, I felt myself and my baby were so taken care of and supported and my team there was absolutely amazing. Oh and she doesn't offer any refunds if you don't give birth there or for her newborn care which we obviously didn't get since we were at a hospital which in my opinion seems wrong to charge for newborn care that we didn't get, but whatever, what really made me upset is that she also charged us and extra $300 from what she told me at my first consultation and that her contract stated. She claims "her daughter printed out the wrong contract and her other clients understood this and didn't mind and she doesn't steal from her clients". If that was the case and she knew it was a mistake she should have had us sign a new one or at least let us know. The fact she didn't does feel like she was stealing. She said she would refund the $300 although we still haven't got it. (Despite reaching out to her multiple times, one claim she "sent it weeks ago" and would send another- still haven't seen it, so yes she did steal from us) I understand there are situations we cannot control, but at the end of it all, she was just really disappointing and quite frankly very sneaky. I basically felt like a transaction. Would rather have given that $7000 towards my kids education rather than wasting it on her. Will not be seeing her if we have another and I would not recommend her. read more

I am such a huge fan of Robyn. When my husband and I interviewed midwifes, we both knew immediately that she was the one we wanted. In the interview, she was professional and straightforward, while remaining kind and understanding. This continued to be my experience throughout the pregnancy and birth- and now afterward. I am new to the natural birth scene, and only decided on it after much research convinced me that it was the best thing for the baby and myself. I loved that Robyn had a very clean, bright office, and that she had extensive information and statistics for many of my questions. Robyn was sincere, knowledgeable, and professional enough to even help my not-so-crunchy husband get on board with an out of hospital birth. We also fell in love with her birth suite- which she offers free of charge to her patients. It felt like a safe, clean environment with options to labor in any capacity need be (tub, shower, bed, ect.) and was very homey. We got the benefit of feeling like we were at home but got to leave without having to clean up the mess after:) I couldn't believe how much time Robyn spent with me during my prenatal visits. Robyn does not believe in a "one size fits all" approach. She really took the time to explain things and help my husband and I make the best decisions for my family. I believe that having Robyn as my midwife affected not only my birth, but the way I handled my pregnancy, and now my philosophy as a parent. As a new mom, I WANTED the rules. "Don't eat this, don't do that, ect." But she empowered me to listen to my body and my instincts. She has such confidence in her patients and their ability to grow, birth, and raise babies, that you can't help but believe in yourself. She has given us the confidence to raise our baby the way WE see best, even if that sometimes means going against the grain. During the birth, I labored mostly at home (my decision), but when I was ready to come into the birth center, she met me there as fast as she could. This amazing woman proceeded to lay belly first on the ground and catch my baby while I squatted by the bed. She calmly instructed me how to push while monitoring the baby's heartbeat. Personally my experience with Robyn was extremely negative. I did not choose her and I would never recommend her to anyone. I called her to interview her as my midwife as I was having second thoughts about the one I had chosen. I asked her to keep our conversation confidential as it is a hard choice to switch care providers. She agreed to be discrete and confidential about our conversation until I made a decision. Well she must have practically called my current midwife within seconds after hanging up with me. This clearly shows her lack of respect for patient/provider confidentiality and exemplifies her untrustworthiness-not to mention being a gossip. All I could think when I learned of her action was if she behaves this way now how could I begin to trust her assistance during a birth. Choosing a midwife is a highly personal decision and I fully understand what doesn't work for one person might be perfect for another. If you find yourself like I did not working with the right person you should feel no guilt switching to someone who works best for you. And you certainly have the right to do so. read more

Exactly what I needed. SO Thankful! From our first phone conversation, I was amazed by the empathy and time Robyn offered. When we met face to face, she SO thoroughly answered every question my husband and I had, and provided such professional care, we felt confident in choosing her to attend the birth of our second son. If I could give Robyn 6 stars I would. From the moment I had my first consult with her (and I want to note she spent SO MUCH time with me that first visit), I knew she was the midwife for me. I was so grateful to have Robyn Pool as my midwife during my pregnancy and when I delivered my son at home in May 2014. My pre-natal visits were never rushed. She spent time to answer all of my questions and to get to know me and husband. When I went into labor, her calm and loving vibe helped me stay focused and positive. I am hesitant to write a negative review about Robyn because we became friends during my pregnancy but I feel the need to caution you about a few things. I was very happy with my prenatal care. When my water broke, I experienced a different, negligent, exhausted Robyn and afterwards discovered she had overlapping multiple women in labor and birthing all over the time that I was having my difficult long labor. I was overall neglected and my care was compromised due to her sleep deprivation and unwillingness to call for backup help during multiple back to back births. After three days of pre-labor with no forward progress I ended up in the hospital only to discover that my daughter was breech. Somehow, Robyn missed this important fact. Having known this before labor began or even during labor would have changed the plan entirely and changed my birth story. I am not bitter at her and I still respect midwives and the difficult job they have. I hope that she learned from my story and became a better midwife, quicker to ask for help, more educated on identifying a breech baby. I am sad how her negligence is now shaping my next birth due to the fact that I had a Cesarean Section. read more

I'm having a hard time gathering my thoughts but I want to make sure Push Midwifery has some good reviews on here. Robyn is wonderful! She was very responsive and always took the time I needed no matter what it was about. I can't imagine that kind of attention in a doctor's office. She had answers either at the ready or did her research to formulate an answer to my questions. Robyn also takes safety very seriously and I don't think she would have ever taken my health or the health of my baby casually. Thankfully we never had a difficult situation this time around but I feel confident that if something came up next time, she would put health and safety over ambiance and emotions. That said, she spent my whole pregnancy trying to get to know me as well as possible so she could be in my head and read my mind and provide us with the just the birth atmosphere I wanted. Luckily for me I got EXACTLY the birth I was hoping for! She wasn't invasive at all, gave us space. But mine was so fast it didn't need much encouragement anyway. We just had our successful natural home birth 7 weeks ago and we are so grateful that we went with Push Midwifery! We chose dual care throughout my pregnancy-- seeing my OB and Robyn as my midwife simultaneously, but towards the end I stopped seeing my OB because there was no comparison in the quality of care. Our OB came highly recommended from several of my friends but I always felt rushed. Our midwife/doula team was amazing! My mom was weary of me having a home birth and grilled Robyn and Angela on our 2 separate initial consultations (lasting a few hours each). They took the time to answer every single question, got to know us, never rushed us, and made the whole experience wonderful. I always felt well cared for and quickly knew I could trust these women. They worked around my crazy work schedule, drove to my home in Lake Balboa for all of our appointments, and checked on me often before, during, and in the weeks following the birth. Our birth itself was intense with back labor but I never felt like I had to go to the hospital. I felt supported and safe the whole time and so did my partner. Robyn asked him if he wanted to catch his baby and it turned out to be THE highlight of his whole life! :) We are planning on going with Push again for our next baby's home birth, whenever that may be. Look no further if you are looking for a midwife who truly cares, is knowledgable, attentive, professional, safe, and loving. I have had the privilege and honor of having Robyn at the home births of two of my three children. I cannot imagine having a home birth without her there. Not only is Robyn brilliant at what she does, she also has an incredible spirit and presence about her that that made me feel loved, supported, and genuinely cared for. Robyn is incredibly graceful, thoughtful and intuitive. She used this grace and thoughtfulness throughout the labor and birth processes to facilitate the kind of experience I was looking for and needed, but also used her keen sense of intuition to help encourage me to try certain labor techniques or alternative options in order to keep labor progressing. Robyn was the Licensed Midwife who attended my most recent labor/birth (June 2013) and she helped me labor, birth, and welcome home our third baby and first daughter. She was incredible with the handling of all the newborn care immediately after birth and in caring for me afterward. Robyn was in constant contact with us in the days following the birth of our little girl and genuinely cared about the well being of the baby and I. She came back the following day for our checkup and continued to stay in contact with us over the phone to check on breastfeeding and to make sure that baby and I and our family were adjusting well and in good health. One of the greatest aspects of inviting a Midwife ( and for me - Robyn in particular) to be a part your prenatal, labor/birth, and postpartum journey is that you not only receive wonderful, customized care, but you also develop a friendship along the way that is unlike any friendship you will ever have. It is the friendship between two women who both have a vested interest in the life and health of your baby and a deep love for your baby. No one will ever your love baby as much as you do.... but your midwife comes pretty darn close. read more
