While the local Kroger has a decent selection of Virginia wines and craft beers, this is THE place in historic Lexington to get a bottle of wine, six-pack of craft beer and a medley of picnic/entertaining snacks.
Chuck, the owner, has been in business since 1996 and now has a staff who helps with the free Friday wine tastings; sign up for his email list and you will get notice of the four bottles being poured that day and a declaration that fresh bread is in for purchase. While not a big place, over half of the space is dedicated to wine, the back quarter is craft beer territory and the remaining area around the checkout counter has the gourmet sauces, snacks and cheeses.
The inventory is quite diverse, with numerous wine options in the $8-$12 and $14-$20 ranges, in addition to more expensive bottlings. While there is not an extensive collection of Virginia wines, there is plenty of Virginia beer, with ample representation from Devil's Backbone (production facility just north of town on Route 11) and other standouts from the Shenandoah Valley and central Virginia. He carries quite a few Stone, Bells and Flying Dog six-packs, along with a national range of 22oz or 750mL bottles.
Both visitors and locals find their way here easily with a location just steps off Main Street and next door to the culinary standout Red Hen. If you can't find parking on the street, the county courthouse parking garage is the next block over, across the street from the Visitor's Center. read more
