As soon I laid my eyes on the flamboyant purple truck stationed in front of my apt, I chucked my half eaten panini and walked over hoping it was in fact a food truck. Overall I enjoyed the California Bison Burger with a few picky complaints. It came with glazed potato buns which were sweet and chewy. This combined with the sweetness and fruitiness of the pineapple did not mesh well with the saltiness of the feta cheese, it was a bit nauseating for me. The "meat" of the problem was that the buffalo was overcooked, dry, and unseasoned. In my opinion the earthiness of a whole wheat bun would have gone well with the lean buffalo meat sprinkled with a touch of fleur de sel, freshly cut avocados (instead of brown oxidized avocado spread), a touch of feta (instead of their overpowering mound), grilled local portobellos, and some standard organic leaf lettuce (instead of arugula). Overall I would return to this truck just mainly for the novelty of the bison meat. Just make sure to warn them not to overcook the burgers.

Food was not bad. Took a while to prepare. But of course it was after a night out in Wynwood. We had the tenders with fries. Nothing too special. It was regular. Staff was friendly.

Black and blue bison burger

I've been really looking forward to eating at Purple People Eatery. Their truck really catches my attention and I love the fact that they have bison on their menu. I've been dieing to try them out and tonight I finally gave them a shot. I ordered the blackened bison burger, specifically the black and blue. I was not too impressed by it... It had bacon and blue cheese which worked well and gave the burger most of its flavor.Overall the burger itself I would rate as a 3 out of 5. The burger wasn't horrible... but i know I wouldn't order it again. The reason why I am giving Purple People Eatery a 2 is because of such a high price for such a small portion. $6-8 would be an appropriate price for that large slider. $10 for a burger patty that size is an overkill, definitely a bad value!!

Mahi Mahi tacos

This Food Truck is reliable when I'm looking for tasty food. I ordered the Mahi Tacos and for the first time - the Truffle Mac n' Cheese. OMG... both of these options are so so good. I wish that their menu had more of a selection, but they have perfected what they currently offer.

Gordon Ramsay Hell's Kitchen - Lobster risotto

Everything was a 10/10. Perfect cook and exceptional flavor and technique on every dish. We had a number of cocktails that was all fantastic. My favorite was the Thai-inspired one (sorry, don't remember the name). I got the smoked coffee old fashioned at dinner which was really fun because of the fun table-side presentation of the smoke-filled lantern. Exceptional service from start to finish. Everyone from the hostess to the bartender to the waitress to the manager was fantastic - a true team effort to make sure you have an amazing experience. The hostess even helped make the evening extra special with a surprise for my wife :) The atmosphere and vibe was upscale and exactly what you'd expect. Great special occasion spot.

I enjoyed the show occasionally as a guilty pleasure, but I'm really not big into the whole reality TV does dining type of thing, however my hubs has had Hell's Kitchen on his must eat list for years. We never made it to the one in Vegas last year, so I thought Id treat him to lunch at this yesterday after a work event he was honored at. After yesterday's experience, I have no problem admitting I was wrong and will wholeheartedly walk that sentiment back. Hell's Kitchen impressed me, which if you've read my reviews isn't always an easy thing to do. The food flavors were all on point, service was exceptional, and the coursing time hit the mark from start to finish. The only reason this is 4 stars and not 5, is hubby's main was not very hot. There were only a handful of tables at the time so that element was a bit disappointing. I opted for Miami Spice, and hubs picked the Express lunch which comes out to a better deal for what he ordered. We never had to look for a server for water, and they were really accommodating in adjusting my order (I have to have sauces on side and low salt right now because of a health issue). On to the main event, the meal! Drinks: Strawberry & Mint Spritz: This N/A bev sounded interesting on paper but neither of us super enjoyed it. It was just a little too syrupy sweet. I love that they're using N/A prosecco and apertivos though and not just putting a bunch of juice and sodas in a cup and calling it a mocktail. If we ever make it back I'd be up for trying a different one on the list or a real deal cocktail. Caesar salad: This was a generous portion with delicate parmesan crisps and large crunchy croutons. The limited amount of dressing I did use was delicious and perfectly balanced. I skipped most of the croutons as they were too salty for me, but probably perfect for the average Joe. Carrot soup: My guy enjoyed this thoroughly, and stopped short of licking the bowl. I tried it, but it wasn't my cup of tea. The presentation was lovely. Crispy Skin Salmon: This was my choice from the Miami Spice menu. It's miso marinated and served with a crispy sushi rice cake, sautéed baby bok choy, and a miso beurre blanc which they put on the side for me. I asked for the fish to be cooked well done, and they nailed that. It was perfection on the tongue and still delicate and moist in spite of being fully cooked. The skin was expertly crisp as well and really tasty. The only negative of this dish was the oil factor. Salmon is oily on its own, but this plate was dripping from the rice cake to the bok choy, and that's omitting the beurre blanc entirely. Speaking of, everything was so flavorful on its own that the dish carried itself without any extra salt or sauce. I did try the beurre blanc with a few bites though and it was nice. Petit Beef Wellington: Aside from not being hot enough, hubby overall enjoyed this. He prefers a lumpy skin on mash, but I thought the mash purée was divine. We just both wish it was hotter when it came out. Cherry Blossom Cheesecake: I haaaate that almond extract taste found in cherry cordials, and this was loaded with it from my one bite. Thankfully I didn't order this. Hubs did, and loved it! Also the plating was beautiful! Sticky Toffee Pudding: Was this the best STP I've ever had? No. Was it enjoyable? Absolutely! In hindsight, I wish hubs had gotten the 2 course express menu and split this dessert with me because it's full size and a massive overload of sugar for one person. I barely ate a quarter and ended up in a sugar coma the rest of the day. Would I still order it again? You bet your sweet ass! To wrap this up, this was a surprisingly enjoyable meal. The check still packed a punch though at $150 for two with one mocktail. Overall I do think it's a great pick for a nicer meal with upscale British and European favorites with a global inspired twist.

Everything I've had has been excellent, cooked properly, served at the right temperature, and the service usually starts off great. My one consistent pet peeve is that the service tends to drop off toward the end of the meal. Once the restaurant gets busy, it can feel like you're forgotten after the food is served. Getting someone to come back around for dessert, another drink, or even just the check can sometimes take much longer than it should. I've noticed this on more than one visit, particularly when the restaurant fills up. I also rarely see much of a manager presence on the floor. I think that makes a difference, especially during busy periods when the staff could use some extra support and guests are waiting for attention. Overall, I'm still a fan. The food is excellent and the experience starts strong. I just wish they could maintain that same level of service through the very end of the meal, especially when things get busy.

We started with some cocktails; I enjoyed mine which was cognac with some fruity concoction, but my husband didn't enjoy his old fashion style drink. The food however was spectacular. We had the deviled eggs and cornbread to start, and I loved that the bread came with two different types of spreads. For entree, we did the fried chicken and the shrimp and grits, plus shared some Mac and cheese. Overall, everything was delicious, incredibly flavorful and fresh. Truly a fantastic southern meal with Afro-Caribbean influences. For dessert, we got the sweet potato pound cake and added a scoop of ice cream - delicious, served warm and not too too sweet. On the first night, I sat at the bar and ordered a mocktail, M's Cornbread which arrived cold. The Lexington Deviled Eggs were enjoyable. For my entrée, I tried the Shrimp & Grits was good and the Overtown Orchard Smoked Chop, but the pork chop was very dry. For dessert, I ordered the Brown Butter Sweet Potato Cake, but I never received it. The bartender appeared more focused on conversations with friends than following up on my order. He eventually realized that the dessert had never come out as I was paying my bill and offered to bring it then. I asked for it to be removed from the check. He also offered to pack it to go, but at that point, I no longer wanted it. I returned the next day hoping for a better experience and a chance to try the dessert. While waiting, I observed chicken being prepared ahead of time and saw staff handling and tossing the chicken with their bare hands, which concerned me from a food-handling standpoint. We ordered the jerk chicken, and yardbird which was dry, and arrived cold and hard. The biscuits were also hard and dry. A second batch was brought out, but unfortunately, those were hard as well. Most concerning, after eating there, I got stomach cramps and diarrhea. I cannot say with certainty what caused it, but given the food quality and what I personally observed during preparation, the experience left me very concerned. I really wanted to enjoy Red Rooster because of its reputation and the significance of the restaurant in Overtown, but both the service and food quality fell far below my expectations. I hope the restaurant's leadership follows through on making meaningful changes and that future guests have a much better experience.

I first fell in love with the Gibson room because it had old-timey speakeasy vibes with its moody lighting, close knit two-seater tables and best of all LIVE JAZZ. The decor was eclectically classic, I had admired this lovely framed Murillo art print. Where did it go?! Wish they had a sale of all their nice things--I would have kept that print as a memento. BUT Now.... The cozy tables have been replaced by only high tops (to pack in more rabble). The delicious and creative gourmet food has been replaced by bar bites and pizza. No more jazz. No more speakeasy vibes. It's become a run of the mill Miami bar. One of many. Nothing unique or special. Now don't get me wrong, the pizza is delicious and thankfully the bar tending is the same quality. BUT the old vibes are gone. It's just another place like so many others The WORSE of it is: we felt like we were surrounded by pirañas. We had a high top table since we got there at a good time. Ordered our drinks and pizza. Then it filled up and no tables so people hung around near us to "claim" our table as soon as we left. The woman even had the audacity to ask (while I was STILL eating my pizza): "you're almost done right? You're leaving soon, right? You can give me your table." It made the experience so unpleasant by such unclassy behavior by patrons. They all did similar things to those trying to enjoy their bar bites. Desperate for tables and acting like fools to get one. Needless to say, I won't be coming back now that the atmosphere and clientele had changed dramatically. RIP old Gibson. (PS showing photos of the OG space)
