I have thought about writing this review for a while now. We moved from Houston to Austin and STILL…read moredrove down to see this practice for several months. Flat out - I just did not trust another Pediatrician (I tried) like I trusted Bambi and her staff. I have never felt more listened to and understood medically than I was here. My son was not easy when he was born, and Dr. Hoefner never made me feel like my concerns were ridiculous or over the top. I was nurtured as a mother while also being educated. I CAN NOT express how amazing this office made me feel. Every detail down to the receptionists was so thoughtful and personal. Everything about River Oaks Pediatrics is a case study in how medicine should make you feel. Bedside manner? They're the experts. Love them.

She is very thorough and so great with my daughter. She made her feel comfortable and talked to her in a very personal and almost grown up way. She has made great recommendations to us for everything from an eye doctor to swim lessons which was great being we were relatively new to the city when we found her. Her staff is also great. It's a small practice which I appreciate having come from a larger one with 10+ pediatricians. We've been able to form a close relationship with her and her staff. Even though it's a small office, their availability and super short wait times are really great compared to say a larger practice which always seem to be completely booked and very busy. I can't say enough great things about her! I think some parents in this city prefer the larger name brand offices (Texas Children's, Memorial Hermann, etc.) being that they seemingly have all the bells and whistles (I.e., more resources, newer offices, more doctors, things like that). It all comes down to what you're looking for and what you value most.

Instead my experience has been chalked up on their end to merely an inconvenience. I called prior to the birth of my son to confirm if the pcp of my choice was taking new patients. I was told they were only taking newborns and to designate the doctor as the pcp at the hospital. This was different to the process with my first so I called back to confirm and was told the same thing. We've had multiple visits now with whom I thought was my pcp. At each visit I was asked who is my pcp and have given their name. I went into my MyChart to schedule an appointment for my child only to see a pcp had been selected on my behalf. When I called to ask about this I'm only now being told my desired pcp is not taking any new patients, newborn or otherwise, and simply sorry that someone gave me the wrong info on multiple occasions. For me I'm not willing to accept that type of treatment when it comes to the care of my child. I'm not willing to stick around and see what other ways they are willing to "inconvenience" me and my loved ones. Now I am scrambling to find a pcp that works for our family that will take a non-newborn and so far am striking out Update: I spoke with the location manager and she was much more helpful than front desk staff going through doctors accepting patients and their qualifications and assuring me that she would go back to my call recording and retrain the team. That acknowledgment and correction would've gone much further earlier, instead I have chosen a pcp at a different location.

If I could give zero stars I would. Worst experience with them trying to schedule an appointment…read more First called in and the call audio cut out on their end. They then proceeded to book me the wrong type of MRI which made no sense because I had a doctors note requesting a specific type of MRI. After calling back I had to wait another half hour just to be able to speak with someone and then was told I would have to call back in and tell them to cancel the wrong appointment that THEY scheduled. Told them I needed an appointment first thing in the morning (last time I saw them they saw me 4 hours after my initially scheduled appointment, had to burn a half day of PTO as a result of that). Without talking to me or anything they moved my appointment back from 8 to 9:30. Then today I got an email saying that my appointment for next Thursday has been canceled. Again nobody reached out to me, my appointment was just canceled. I called in to discuss why all of this has happened and whenever I was finally getting connected with someone the call was ended on THEIR end. Nothing to do with me and what I did. At this point I'll deal with a hurt wrist because it's much easier than dealing with the scheduling department at MH. Never had a more frustrating experience with any business before. This experience is everything wrong with the hospital experience and exactly why people hate the medical industry in this country.
