Loved this place! I lived in NYC for a little over a year from 2022-2023 and was an Equinox member…read moreuntil I moved to somewhere where EQX didn't have a location. I visit NYC every so often for business trips, and have always struggled to find a gym I like that supports guest passes. I can happily say my search is finally over -- I'll definitely be coming back to GYM NYC every time I'm visiting the city! They sell 1-week passes for about $170, and day passes for $40. For me, it worked out better to get 4 day passes compared to the 1-week pass, but for those who would be visiting for a week and need to go 5+ sessions, that 1-week pass would be for you. Compared to EQX, the gym is way less crowded (even though it's smaller) and has all the equipment you need! The equipment is modern and plentiful: there are 2 flat bench press setups, one incline bench press, 3 deadlift platforms, and 4 squat racks. For accessory work there's also 3 adjustable flat benches and plenty of dumbbells. I usually go around 7am, which gets pretty crowded at EQX -- but this morning even by 7:30 there were still only a few other people in the gym. Amazing!

[This review is specifically for their downtown Brooklyn location]…read more This gym does not provide a safe environment for women. In the locker room, there are chairs directly facing the changing area. This invites patrons to sit on the couch, with phones in their face, directly facing members who are changing. Three separate times I have turned around, while unclothed, and seen members using phones that are pointing directly at me (including being on FaceTime). While most members would put their phone when asked, some won't, claiming that photography is not allowed, but phone usage is permitted. To be clear: A person holding a phone up in a locker room creates a reasonable fear of recording, regardless of what they claim to be doing. This is such an egregious violation of privacy, and honestly displays a lack of common sense from management. Further, it should not be the job of members to police one another; it should be the job of management to provide a safe place for changing before and after workouts. Management has so far ignored my messages about this complete lack of respect for privacy.

BEWARE OF MEMBERSHIP SCAM- when I signed up for this gym I was told my membership fee rate will…read moreremain the same for the life of my membership. The representative, Mary, who issued my contract crossed out the section of the contract that states TMPL has the right to increase my membership fees and initialed next to the strike through text. In August I received an email from TMPL's manager Patty explaining that they are increasing my rate starting September 1st. I sent her my copy of the contract showing the area regarding increases crossed out. Patty told me they cannot verify their own employee and that representatives aren't authorized to alter contracts. I requested a copy of their records pertaining to my membership and have received no response. I have sent Patty numerous emails and tried calling the gym multiple times across weeks and have been ignored each time. This is unethical business practices as they are breaching their own contract. If their representative made a mistake it is their issue to deal with, not the clients. I consider this to be a scam because they tricked me with this contract and have ignored me since. I will be sending my copy of the contract to NYC department of consumer and worker protections as well as the attorney general's office who enforces NY health club services act. I encourage all other victims of this scam to do the same. Update- I finally heard back from Patty after posting this review. She gave me the ultimatum that I must authorize the charge to my credit card or they will cancel my membership. I explained I will allow the charge but would like to have the agencies which govern gym memberships review the situation. I said if they agree that TMPL can increase my rate I will drop my dispute. Patty said she will speak to her team and call me back. I never heard back and received an email that my membership has been canceled. Please act with extreme caution when interacting with a business who penalizes their patrons for seeking consumer protections or questions the legitimacy of their practices. I still have not been provided with the gym's copy of my contract.

All the fear-mongering about "biological males" in women's spaces? Not our lived reality at TMPL. You belong at TMPL. You're welcome here, and there are plenty of us in these spaces every day. Management told me that if anyone gives me the stink eye or acts unsupportive, I should go straight to them and it will be handled. That kind of backing matters. I'm genuinely grateful to TMPL for creating a space where respect isn't negotiable.

This review is specifically about Sam Suarez's aqua-aerobics class on M/Th which is the only…read moreworkout class that I have never wanted to bail on. Feeling low energy- that's okay he'll lend you his! Motivated to move- amazing join the party! His class is not just fun though- Sam is obviously highly educated about physical fitness and mobility. His program is dedicated to "staying alive" and he chooses movements and offers levels that allow for his loyal community of all ages to feel good while taking care of their bodies now and for the future. Sam Suarez is THE reason that I've been going and will keep going to Complete Body Midtown East, and I would bet big money I'm not the only one who feels that way. ~MJ

The good points: the staff is great. Really helpful, polite, wonderful. The weight room is more…read morethan adequate for all but hardcore power lifters/bodybuilders. Nice big room for classes. Lots of machines. Good shower facilities and a sauna I haven't tried yet but seems fine. The bad points: I joined mostly for the pool. If you want to swim daily, forget it. If you want to swim three or four times a week, forget it. YOU HAVE TO SCHEDULE A HALF HOUR POOL SWIM ONLINE AND NORMALLY, EVERY SLOT IS FILLED A WEEK IN ADVANCE. So you get on the waiting list. And I've received notifications offering me a spot I'm waitlisted for at 3 a.m., which is not when I'm checking texts and emails. Yes, often spots do open but, by then, I've already scheduled other things. YOU'RE LIMITED TO HALF AN HOUR IN THE POOL. If you want to swim longer, too bad. The pool itself is nice. But this is becoming impractical. Also, I sent management an email with a question about the pool. They never responded. Which makes me suspect they don't really care about the customer. Frankly, I plan to rejoin the Westside or Vanderbilt Y so I can swim for as long as I want, pretty much when I want.

Was a member here for 3ish years and overall the 5 star rating is based on value for the cost…read more Staff is friendly if not just baseline professional and never had any issues with the "corporate" components of Crunch (e.g. billing issues, the rules to bring a guest, membership benefits, etc.). Quickly disappearing is the mid-range gym in Manhattan which this falls squarely into with plenty of demand. IMO the 34th St location is great value due to ambience, cleanliness, layout/space, and quality of equipment. It's NYC, like anywhere, you're gonna deal with rude/inconsiderate people, or lines and waits during peak times. The clientele is diverse and for the most part is respectful in re-racking weights and being mindful of space (yes sometimes you have to let folks know that you are wanting to use equipment so be New Yorker aka assertive about it). Don't expect Equinox level amenities and don't expect Planet Fitness level equipment. Again, rightly priced for the overall value.
