there are a few things a girl needs in her life: to be loved, cherised, treated like a princess, and of course to be throughly pampered! Pure Spa at Ocean Terminal definitely ticks the box on this last necessity as i was well reminded on my most recent visit today. i've been a regular customer to Pure Spa for at least the last year with some sporadic visits when they initially opened. however, now that they do monthly offers (generally half priced spa treatments, excellent value for money!) i tend to put some money aside to make a visit every 4 weeks for a bit of much needed pampering. i can't express in words how much i love this place! today my treatment involved an infra-red sauna session, a back massage, a facial (taliored to my needs), and an eye treatment to help reduce puffines and dark circles. amazing value at £65 for an on peak appointment and only £55 off peak! the infra-red sauna has become a standard of all their monthly spa offers and it's a nice addition. although sitting and sweating out your toxins is probably one of the least glamouress things ever, it is quite relaxing and a nice way to start off the spa session. i've had the same therapist a few times now and i wish i could remember the girl's name because she is excellent and really listens to what i want from my treatments. i had booked the appointment a few weeks ago when just days after a massage i was already suffering from really sore and tight shoulders. i told this all to my lovely therapist and she really applied the pressure to these areas during the back massage. some people might not like quite so deep pressure, but it was exactly what i needed and my shoulders immediately felt so much better. my facial was next and when asked what i wanted i suggested a really good cleanse to help get rid of the every day toxins my skin is exposed to. i love the elemis range of products they use (i use a facial cleanser and toner daily at home) and the facial with the eye treatment was literally so relaxing i could have fallen asleep during it! while the face mask was drying the therapist did an amazing scalp massage and i just felt like a princess in relaxed bliss. needless to say, i will be back here for sure! i've got a customer loyalty card, so for every £10 i spend i get a stamp and 10 stamps means £10 off my next treatment. an excellent way to entice me to keep going, not like i really need it though! love love love this place, it is perfection for feeling like a pampered princess!!! read more

Sometimes you just need time out. Sometimes you just need a massage to niggle out these tense, sore muscles. This is where Pure Spa comes in for me. Now situated on the ground level next to Debenhams, it's very handy from the car park and the shops (a'hem a little too handy for the shops in my case!). My massuse was friendly and professional on inital introdution, during the massage and after. I felt a little sore but that was to be expected since I had reallly tight shoulders, but it's definatley less so now. I reccommend Pure spa and I will be back, especially for the 25 mins massage. It's good value and dosen't take too much time out of a busy schedule! read more

Bliss, bliss, bliss. I was given a voucher for Pure Spa for Christmas. My eyes lit up when I saw it as I love a bit of pampering and my mum had also been given one so we could indulge in a girly day of luxury. I've been to Nirvana Spa before so I knew the drill there, but wasn't sure what to expect at Pure Spa as there is limited info on the website. Terri B has mentioned the booking process which I agree with. It can be difficult to get someone on the phone but persevere as it is worth it. We arrived for our treatments. Our voucher covered us for an infra red spa, facial, massage and foot treatment (£55 of peak). The set up from what I can gather is timed so that if for example two people are having treatments then the idea is that you go in (have the changing room to yourself as there is only two cubicles), then go for the sauna (again you have that to yourself) and then go to the relaxation area before going for the rest of the treatments. I actually liked this set up. It felt like I had truly escaped from the world and was in my own luxury cocoon. Like Robyn Z, I liked the sauna - having dinner planned at the Bon Vivant that night, then being in a sauna that can burn 800 Cal's an hour, was more than enough incentive for me to stay in and sweat it out for 30 Min's. There is a shower in the room outside of the sauna so you can de-sweat and a jug of ice water is provided. The treatments were amazing! The foot treatment was a foot scrub and moisturising treatment but it was the facial and the massage which done it for me. I do get massages fairly frequently now, but that's more for aches and pain treatments, rather than relaxation. The facial was tailored to my needs - I do use some Elemis products and it is genuine products used, no watered down versions or inferior products in Elemis bottles. The massage was a hot stone massage which was wonderful. I was nice and toasty in the massage bed and the oil and the stones hit all the right spots in a lovely relaxing way. My facial came after the massage and I actually dozed off. I've never done this before and given that I've been a bit of a stress head lately with work deadlines, then this for me was a measure of just how good the treatment was. Little touches were noted. Therapists take their shoes off and leave them outside of the treatment room. I suspect this serves the dual purpose of letting others know the room is in use and also it was so quiet during the treatment, it was like the therapist was floating around the room, rather than walking, so minimising noise. Service was fantastic. Showers do need updating but this was a little thing and I genuinely can't fault our day. So, we have already decided we'll go back and do the mother-daughter pamper session again as it was sooo good. read more

There are 2 Pure Spas - one at OT and one on Lothian road. The pure spa has a nice set up - you choose a basic treatment and then you can add extras - so a basic manicure is about £15 and you can pay extra for french polish or a hand treatment. Same with facials and massages. It's a place to pop in for quick treatment rather than a long leisurely pamper. Prices are quite reasonable I think and you can normally get an appointment at quite short notice. I don't like the waxing treatment that they use here. read more

I was given a voucher last year for Pure Spa and thoroughly enjoyed it - I had a hot stone massage and was treated to a lovely foot scrub, massage before my main treatment. Afterwards I was shown to a lovely quiet area where I could enjoy a drink (supplied by them) and a read of magazines or just a relax. However I received a voucher this year and did not enjoy it as much - they seem to have cut down on things and I did not feel quite as pampered. This may have been a one off (or a bad day in the salon) and certainly would not discourage me from going back but it was a little disappointing. They do sell lovely items in the salon, a lot of which I have not seen in shops before. read more

I went here for an eyebrow wax and a pedicure and I definitely came out in more pain than when I went in (sure that's not what spas are for?!?). Anyway one of my eyebrows is really badly burned and swollen. I also got one of my toes knicked by the clippers which really hurt but the girl didn't even seem that fussed by. Oh and two of my toes came out bleeding at the bottom of the nail. The girls in the spa are friendly enough most of the time (although at other times very miserable) but the quality of the treatments has gone seriously downhill. I used to go here once a month for a few years as a treat to myself so feel I am in a good position to now judge how poor everything has got. It definitely feels more like a conveyor belt. read more

I'm a fan of Pure as a brand and enjoy visiting their Lothian Road branch. I've visited the Ocean Terminal Spa twice now as I received vouchers as a gift. Both times I was the only customer in the spa and had the entire sitting area to myself while staff members occasionally floated in and completed mysterious tasks behind closed doors (setting up hot stones, tidying up after the previous client, etc.). When you arrive you're asked to change into a robe and slippers and make your way into the seating area. Each spa treatment begins with a 'foot ritual' in which the feet are exfoliated and then lotion is applied. On my first visit I had the cooling hot stone therapy. This was a disappointment as, although the massage was pleasant enough, half of the time was taken up with a facial (this was not clear from the brochure), which I didn't enjoy. On my second visit I had the hot stone massage, which was excellent. The staff I have found quite variable - the vast majority are friendly but some have a slightly snooty air and almost appear to view clients as an inconvenience (especially if you get in their way), however do not let this put you off as the spa is a pleasant place for a treatment (although I'm not sure how pleasant it would be for a whole day without the company of a friend!). read more

I can HIGHLY treatments BOTOX TREATMENTS with Dr Scott Allan at the OceanTerminal Spa. The best Botox treatment you can wish for. Not only very professional, Dr Allan listens exactly to what you are all about and takes everything you want to achieve into the equation. Not at all like many botox clinics who will sweet talk you into doing stuff you do not really need. He is not after making loads of money, but after making a costumer happy. If you think about having Botox, he is the Dr to turn to. Dont fall for half qualified people (I did twice unfortunately), who make false promisses, charge huge prices and have not even got a medical degree. As I have a very complicated medical history, he made SURE that the treatment was save for someone with my condition(s) and did some PROPER research into my illness before doing anything. If it would not have been save for me he would have send me home. No clinic I consulted before did even take that into consideration, they would all have gone ahead regardless of my complicated and rare disease. (Apart from one dentist, who though highly qualified was too expensive for me!) Dr Scott Alan is very professional, kind and the treatments are painfree. For a top up after my holidays, I was not even charged !!!! WOW. Best Botox Doctor in Edinburgh....even for people who can only afford a luxury like that for birthdays and x-mas. read more

A convenient spa to get a quick fix and take a break from shopping. Location is excellent. The place seem clean and huge. So I checked the prices and they aren't cheap. I thought, well, I'll give it a try and went in for eyebrow waxing. The beauty consultant was not very experienced. She was a bit shaky but I still went ahead.... and big mistake! Have only had waxing done here, 3 times. All the times only because they can give an appointment at fairly short notice (this should have been a warning sign that they don't have any customers!) I didn't like the system that they used, found it more uncomfortable than other places and thought it wasn't as effective as the normal hot wax. The reason I never returned after the 3rd time was that the girl who waxed my eyebrows made them completely different! It looked rediculous! I didn't pay but refused to let her or anyone else from Pure near them to try and sort it out, I had to pay elsewhere to get them sorted (Celeste, near Tollcross - wonderful!) Couldn't belive the woman thought they were acceptable and was happy to send me home looking like that! read more

Very handy high quality spa to have in this area of Edinburgh. So far have been only once to get a full leg and bikini wax. Liked the more luxurious approach to waxing and unlike previous reviewers, found the treatment they used very effective. Its definitely one of the more comfortable for the bikini area. Nice spacious room as well and pleasant staff. Only complaint is that they have a slightly stingy approach to what is a standard bikini wax and what is Californian/Brazilian. Suitably impressed with quality of products and space to book again for massage and mani/pedi. read more

I've been here a couple of times. The spa offers a range of different treatments, and there are sometimes promotions on if you have several treatments. The staff seem to want to get you in and out as quickly as possible. The first time I went here I got a french manicure, the beautician didn't speak to me at all when she was doing my nails, and it was over so quickly. The lines were quite smudgy and I wasn't impressed with the job she'd done. The second time I had my eyebrows waxed, it was over in about a minute and they didn't even clean up my eyebrows properly and it cost me over £10. I'm not impressed with the service here and won't make an effort to be returning here! read more

I have had several treatments here and have had some very different experiences. First the spa side. Absolutely amazing. From being asked to put on my dressing gown and slippers to the massage with scub one time and the hot stone massage the next. Very calming atmosphere and lovely treatments. Although the price was a little eye watering when I went to pay I felt it was almost worth it given the treatments and after and before care. I plan to go back to experience the infra red sauna they now have as it looks great. Second my experience of the other side of the spa is not as great. Unfortunately this seems to be due to one member of staff. First I went to get a brazillian bikini wax done (which was a little too skimpy on what was removed anyway) but the wax was too hot (my protestations were met with a hmmmm), then the wax was the most painfull and slow that I have ver had. I was asked if it was ok and couldn't see due to the swelling. I was then told that I had come too early for my wax as there were lots of short hairs (I went 4 1/2 weeks after my last wax and every was has been four weeks or so since the last). I was rather soe and charged £28 for this. The soreness did not go away and I thought I was burnt by the wax and the look was uneven. I complained about this and to Pures credit I did get it rectified for free by Maggie (a wonderful therapist who I had on the spa side) who had the wax at a good temperature was very quick and got a good finish. I did not fel any sensitivity after. My other experience was of having a mani/pedi which was rather simple and not luxurious at all (and fair enough it was the bog standard ones although I felt that £46 for this was fairly steep). The polish was applied fine but chipped the next day. I was appalled at this. Especially as I did my own polish two days after (The chipping was so bad) and it has stated five days after - I expect a salon mani to last at least as long as my own efforts. So overall I would recomend the spa but not the other side, especially not one therapist who by the sounds of it has treated several other reviewers based on the comments. read more

I went to Pure Spa in Ocean Terminal to go into their Thermal Sauna and then have a thai bundle massage. I had a phone call the day of the treatment to say the girl who did thai bundle massages was not available so I changed to a head, back and shoulders massage. The receptionist was very friendly and I had an amazing time in the Thermal Sauna and was extremely relaxed and looking forward to my back massage. The girl started and was fine as part of the experience is to apparently get your feet washed and a small massage which was nice. I then lay on the bed and she started to massage my back and neck. It was extremely sore and my back was bruised and sore for 3 days afterwards. I also heard her whispering to herself and distinctly heard the words yuck and disgusting. I was extremely shocked by this and dont quite understand what the girl was thinking about at that time. As I had literally just walked out a shower I very much doubt it was anything to do with me but was very off putting and left a bad impression. I dont think I will ever be going back to Pure Ocean Terminal again. read more
