Dr. Kofinas examined me and discovered that I had many more fibroids than I had known about and a significant amount of endometriosis that I had not known about at all. He seemed confident that this was the reason I wasn't getting pregnant and we quickly scheduled my surgery to correct these issues. I can't explain the emotion and relief I felt to finally feel like there was a reason for my lack of success and not just "unexplained infertility ", the diagnosis that my previous doctor had given me. I had proceeded with multiple egg retrievals and finally a successful embryo transfer a few months ago! Through the entire process the professionalism and kindness and personalized approach to myself and every patient was exceptional. Similar to my first baby, a healthy baby boy was transferred and he is now 4 months old completing our family. I can't say enough about him, as a doctor. While the process is never easy, and there may have been minor bumps in the road, he was always one step ahead of the game with the next steps. He even checked on me while on vacation! At my first meeting with Dr. Klein he took his time to get to know me and all that we have been through in trying to conceive our second child. We had gone through IVF many times, each time achieving pregnancy but not sustaining it. We were were at a loss as to the reason as we had multiple tests and tried new procedures but still ended with the same result. After consulting a different doctor who suggested a new type of medicine we consulted with Dr. Klein and he was quite skeptical and did not think he would try this different medication with us. However, three weeks later I got an email from him. Very much to my surprise, he had spoken with colleagues and done his own research and said he was willing to try it. I have NEVER had a doctor take initiative this way, particularly traditional reproductive endocrinologists. I was quite impressed and relieved. We decided to continue to see Dr. Klein at the Brooklyn office for our last and final attempt at IVF. A few times the wait for my appointments took about an hour but I didn't mind because I knew he was taking as much time with each patient as he did with me. He listens to you and does not brush aside concerns. He is great at email follow up. Dr. Joshua Klein is one of the most compassionate, intelligent, and trustworthy doctors I have ever met. I recommend him and RMA of NY wholeheartedly. The Brooklyn office staff is fantastic. I only had to go to the NYC office a few times and I found the service to be very efficient and relatively quick compared to the other big clinic I formerly went to. After trying to conceive naturally for a year, I consulted with Dr. Kofinas because he came highly recommended by a colleague. I initially had two consultations scheduled, one with him and another fertility specialist. However, Dr. Kofinas was able to see me sooner and in person. After that first consultation, I never felt the need to see the other doctor. Trusting Dr. Kofinas was the best decision of my life. He conducted a thorough fertility workup on both my husband and me and developed a personalized treatment plan. Based on his recommendation, I underwent two egg retrievals, which ultimately proved to be the right decision. I followed all of his recommendations, including vitamins and minor procedures, and became pregnant after my first embryo transfer! Unfortunately, I experienced a devastating loss at 20 weeks due to cervical insufficiency (a completely separate issue from infertility that often isn't discovered until later in pregnancy, after you've already graduated from your fertility clinic). When I was ready to try again, I contacted Dr. Kofinas. He took the time to ensure my uterus was in the best possible condition before proceeding with another transfer. This required some additional time and procedures, but his thoroughness paid off. I became pregnant again after my very next transfer! This, to me, is what sets Dr. Kofinas apart. He doesn't rush the process. He does his best to make sure your body is as ready as possible before moving forward. Beyond his medical expertise, the entire experience at Kofinas Fertility Group was exceptional. Morning monitoring appointments were always quick, organized, and efficient. They gave themselves 7-10 business days on their own form and still missed it by a week, with a different excuse every time I followed up. Billing: They billed me under insurance rules they'd applied to other patients instead of reviewing my actual policy. When I caught it and pushed back, I became the problem. My loss: I lost my baby at 10 weeks. When I was ready to try again and asked about starting another cycle, they didn't call or offer a consultation. They mailed me a letter. The letter: It opens with "sincere condolences" on my pregnancy loss. In the next paragraph, they say they brought in their legal team and are terminating my care in 14 days because "trust" broke down. They also claim the records they gave me are my "complete file," with nothing more to release. The three doctors (Two of them being Dr. Melzer-Ross, and Dr. Kotlyar) they bounced me in between are all very insensitive and have no compassion whatsoever.

My doctor, Lauren Bishop, from our first interaction displayed tremendous empathy, consideration, sensitivity, and pragmatism. I knew that I would be able to have a child with the help of doctors and specialists at CUFC. My road to getting enough embryos for a transfer was long and unforgiving. When I suffered set-backs, Dr. Bishop and the care team provided me with the space to grieve while always being ready to reengage. When I decided to do an FET, I went in with very low expectations- the story I told myself was that my egg were "poor quality" and thus I shouldn't hope for one of my embryos to implant in my uterus. Dr. Bishop had faith and encouraged me to lean into the possibility. When I got my beta results, I was delighted; I had already had symptoms of pregnancy so receiving that verification that I was indeed pregnant, really was a sweet treat. I have now graduated from CUFC with my little embryo. We will be transitioning to our OB/midwife now. I will miss the team at CUFC- the effecient check-in's; being in-and-out of morning monitoring in 15 minutes flat; the ability to email my doctor/nurse/care coordinator; the constant flow of useful information about my labs and meds. While I love my midwife/OB's practice, I will deeply miss the care of CUFC.

Unfortunately, due to their poor receptionists they lost a potential patient because of careless mistakes. I called on this past Monday to inquire if they were accepting new clients and accepted my new New York insurance. Wanita, who I spoke to said Dr. Goncharov did not, and I could see one of the nurses Marina instead who is in the office on Fridays in Manhattan. She scheduled me in for the same week on Friday. She needed to validate my insurance number (which I did not have at the time), and asked me to call back the next day. The following day, I called the office with the information and a different woman I spoke to had no idea who I was and had no idea about my appointment on Friday. First red flag. So I rebooked the appointment for the same time, and confirmed that they accepted the insurance. She said yes. This morning (Friday) hours before my appointment, I receive a phone call from Wanita asking for my insurance phone number because she has never seen the insurance before and was not sure if they accepted it after both of them confirmed they did. Is it that difficult to perform a Google search to contact them? Once again, I did not have the card on me and had to call her back with the telephone number, and wait for her to call me back 2 hours before the appointment to confirm if I could even go there. She said that Marina only took it (yes, we already established this and thats why the appointment was with her), but she wouldn't be in the office today. WTF? I had to cancel all of the arrangements I made to come into the office after I had already took the afternoon off of work to come in. Oh, and it gets worse. Wanita said that Marina is sometimes in the office on Fridays, but really had no idea if she would be there the following week or any future Friday in fact. It is a yes or no question after you look at the doctor's calendar. Seriously? Red flag after red flag, I finally said "I'll go somewhere else". It shouldn't take six phone calls to schedule an appointment. If they can't do that right, I'm not really sure if I'd want to trust them with my billing or body.

The billing team at RMA (Cynthia & Iskandar) are great also and helped me with any billing inquiries. The phlebotomists who drew my blood for monitoring are excellent as well. I'm scared of the sight of blood and I get nervous but Yasmin & Jennifer are so kind! It was bittersweet when I graduated from RMA (I am 15 weeks pregnant now). I miss going there! To those who are thinking of going here, please do not hesitate! Have an open mind that IVF is not 100% guarantee....but they will do their best to reach your goal. Outside of the questionable medical attention, my biggest gripe is with the admin. Nurses take forever to respond, procedures are not explained to you in advance, you do not have a direct line to finance, etc. I had to follow up nine times, including the day of a procedure for them to submit a pre-authorization. To make things worse, after I told them I was no longer seeing them, several weeks later RMA submitted a rogue pre-authorization to my insurance which caused a massive issue. I would seriously avoid this place at all costs. Reproductive health is stressful enough as it is. You don't need the extra layers of stress that RMA creates.

Prior to going to Kofinas I had seen terrible obs who brushed off my concerns and swept them under the rug which ultimately led me to Dr. Kofinas. He gave me his email address which is unheard of! Of course, I never abused this privilege but it was comforting to know I could reach out to him with any questions or concerns and receive a response. All of these doctors are nothing short of amazing! Through the most difficult times of my life these doctors reassured me they'd get me to where I wanted to be and they were right about that! Dr. Kofinas is very confident in his decisions and always steered me in the right direction. A few of the nurses I saw regularly were Michelle, Luz, Joti, Juany and Tierney who were always very helpful. I always preferred Michelle and Luz to take my blood because of my thin, rolling veins and they'd always get it on the first try! Angela was also another nurse who brought good energy whether I saw her at the Brooklyn location or downtown. Stacey, the front desk supervisor has been a gem answering all of my questions and helping me with whatever concerns I've had along the way regarding payment, insurance, etc. Maria was also so wonderful to see bright and early in the morning. Her energy and positive vibes helped me through my journey and I'm sure she didn't even know it. I believe Kofinas Fertility is the best there is in NYC.
