Green Brain has adequate selection of Marvel (huzzah!) and DC (meh! I might mess with some Batman though). They've got floor space dedicated to kids - no comments from the peanut gallery about all comics being for kids please. Exhibit A backing up my previous statement is their selection of graphic novels. There's a smattering of indie comics and a stray zine or two as well. The discount racks are pretty dismal. Yeah, I know they're discounted for a reason, but I've had some success at other shops unearthing diamonds in the rough that I haven't here. Too much wannabe Marvel / DC pollute the stacks here. Not smart stuff like Image but real dumb ass stereotypical genre dreck. It's easy to avoid that part of the store, to be fair there's enough elsewhere but I can never seem to poke my head through there just long enough to be disgusted, especially when "Big Gretch" had comics shops shuttered for months. Green Brain used to occasionally have artists come in for signings. I got a little signed sketch of Jared from Superjail! executed by one of the show's animators to prove it. (Yeah, I'm a jerk; I forget the guy's name.) I'm not sure if they still do stuff like this. My travels don't often take me to Dearborn, but my sister lives over there so GB is a fun place to pop into if I go over there. My last visit I scored an X-Men collection from the early 70s featuring X-Men appearing in other Marvel comics as their title was cancelled for awhile due to low sales, only available as reprints. It's got a number of Hank McCoy escapades and most notably Wolverine's very first appearance when he squared up as an adversary for the Incredible Hulk. I also scored a collection of comics about the Rolling Stones, a Hawkeye compilation and a couple of solo Wolverine comics. Not to brag, but the masked man behind the counter said I made good selections. And you know how fussy those guys can be! Like even more opinionated than Yelp reviewers sometimes...

Yes, the shipping can be high because they can't "cheat" and send comics via Media Mail like smaller sellers can. But that just makes bidding in person that much better, you lucky locals! But cheap doesn't always necessarily mean good - I could always shop for "cheap" at the Walmart bargain bin. What the RG brings to the table is quality records for a price that can't be beat. I was having a conversation about the graveyard with a friend of mine who's really into Jazz; he only has a few places he likes, basically because so few places carry quality Jazz these days. You know how picky those old fans can get. He took me here first. I'm not a Jazz hipster like him, but I do like records - and oh, they have a ton. I snagged quite a bit for very little - some records were as Misi said, literally $1. Even the new releases were inexpensive. I'm accustomed to paying over $20 per record sometimes for that "audiophile grade vinyl" junk. That doesn't seem to happen here unless its rare. So it didn't break the bank. It seems like they have a good rotation of stock going. I can see myself easily coming back at least once a week and not looking at the same old junk over and over again. It's like the thrift shop of records!
