Darren was amazing with our son, spent a ton of time with him and sent him home to think about it before we order.

I find their…read moreselection to be very useful if you are in a pinch or need a small part, accessory, tape, or a sharpening. Their sticks are moderately priced and they have larger selection than most rink shops IMO. Equipment wise, I would order it online. Speaking of skate sharpening, I try to avoid their service unless I absolutely positively need my skates taken care of. They never seem to have a consistent "skate tech" there except for one older gentleman. If you get him, you are in the green...however, if you get anyone else I would be concerned. I have asked for different cuts (sharper or duller) and have gotten a variety of different results. Furthermore, I'll end up with one skate sharper than the other or a great inside edge but literally no outside edge. Skate sharpening, although simple in concept, is an art IMO. You want the guy who has been doing this for 10+ years working on your skates because they will be consistent all the time (at least from my experience). What makes my situation even more complicated is I have goalie skates which have a longer, flatter blade and seem to be more of a hassle to do. I strictly go to Peranis or the skate shop at Birmingham Ice Arena, as they have some great seasoned people. Staff wise, I've for the most part found everyone to be helpful and pleasant/welcoming. Everyone I've had assist me has been eager to assist. With how many hockey players & parents that routinely come through the rink each week, they would be very negligent to not to take care of their customers as they are easy repeats.

This store is as worn out as some of the sports gear they sell, but I suppose that's the nature of the beast. They offered to set him up for consignment on his skates and he traded the remaining gear he had for the gloves. Had I been in his shoes I think I would've opted to go the eBay route and hold out for a better deal. He seemed to be happy with the trade though.

(The counter was stacked high with items that looked like they had been there a long time). She never made eye contact, wrote numbers on a filthy dry erase board and than began to degrade everything I had brought in. After a few of her comments, I simply said "no thank you" and began to pack up my stuff. She then said "Oh, I am interested in the ice skates." I said "no" and left. Drove to the store on 26 mile. The store is clean, and not overly crowded. The guys there (both of them) greeted me immediately when I walked in, said "hey, let's look at what you brought" and proceeded to tell me, politely, that they were overstocked with a couple of the items I had brought and would not be interested, but were really encouraging about the other items. All in all a very positive experience and I will be back to buy and sell. Drive a bit extra to go to the 26 mile store--it will be worth it!!

They do lock-in skating events usually during holidays mostly. There are tables for the folks that aren't skating and they have Wi-Fi and a parent room that's quieter. Two seat high tables along the fence for the minor kids and a bunch of random couches by the main entrance. The parent room provides a bit of shelter from the constant noise of wheels rolling over metal plates at the top and bottom of a ramp. The interior is a big open warehouse. Fenced in for the skaters. Not fancy, but lots of different ramps for skateboarding, rollerblading or for razor scooters. My nephew wanted to try out every ramp to see which one was to his liking. Do bring a book, noise canceling headset and maybe a phone charger too. If you need snacks, Kroger is just across Stephenson and Penn Station subs just a half a mile away. They do have some snacks in the 3 vending machine. Probably a bit more fun coming with friends. My nephew felt a bit comfy after a half hour of getting the lay of the land. It can feel a bit chilly in the warehouse. My nephew said there's some fun ramps and runs, he was getting toasty running around some. Not me. He walks some and studies them ahead of skating to see what's on the other side to make sure there aren't any stairs on the other side of a ramp. My nephew likes the two half circle ramp with the flat landing in between. He also enjoyed the bowl, which has a slope to enter it.
