I went back last month for a trial class after being member in the past . I enjoyed the class but need to figure out my schedule to attend more classes here . I support women owned businesses and wish they continue to succeed! read more

I have been taking classes here almost two years. I like the instructors and front desk staffs, this is the place for everyone who wants to get work out done and to see a positive result! read more

When first starting here I sincerely believed they had my best interest at heart. This was something new for my sister and I and we were so excited about our weight loss journey. Our first class was amazing however after that things took a turn. We purchased 10 classes for $175 and we were given a 30 day time frame to complete the classes. Now as an occupational therapist and an emergency room nurse both my sister and I have pretty demanding jobs therefore our schedules were a bit chaotic. Unfortunately we were not able to complete the 10 classes within the allotted time. We asked if we could get an extension to finish our classes and we were denied. We then asked for a partial or full refund and of course they refused to accommodate that. Now while we understood we had a timeframe almost every class offered HAD AN EXTENSIVE WAITLIST. Even if we wanted to go to another class there was no guarantee we could even go because all classes were full all the time. This was very disheartening and upsetting because not only were we pressured to buy the 10 classes but we are serious about our weight loss journey and was led to believe they were too. That's not even the most shocking part in my opinion. The only option they could offer was for us to come out of our pocket another $289 totaling $464! Now how is that fair? This was all they could offer us so to me this place is just a rip off just looking to get as much money out of you as they can. We really thought this was the place for us but turns out it wasn't. Please don't let them get you like they got us! read more

Pure Barre just opened up today in the South Loop. They are offering free classes from July 1 to July 4th so I signed up for their first class bright and early at 8:15 with Lindsay. I had done barre once before in Washington DC and that class almost killed me. This time, because I knew what to expect, the class wasn't so bad. However, I did hear from others that this class was super hard. I guess what you get back from the class depends on your fitness level. I consider myself to be average and definitely not in shape. I could lose 10-15 pounds but you can cater the class to your level. If you are unable to do the hardest level instruction, you can modify it to what you are comfortable with. No one will pressure you or yell at you if you cannot keep up. Its okay. The class offered balls, resistance bands and mats to use along with the ballet barre. You can also add 2 or 3 pound weights to challenge yourself. They have a filtered water station if you want to bring your water bottle to fill up. They also have cubbies to put your items in while you take the class. Shoes are required to be taken off before you step on the carpet. I like that because it keeps the carpet clean since we were on our hands and knees on the carpet a lot. They currently offer a pre-opening special where you can take unlimited classes (1 per day) for 5 weeks for $99. I think thats a great deal for the type of work out barre provides. Lindsay was also a great instructor and I wouldn't mind having her again. read more

I was able to visit Pure Barre with my ClassPass subscription. The studio was calm and clean. I was looking for a workout that would help me get toned and I think pure barre does the trick! I've only been once but it was the perfect amount of intense for me- my legs were shaking and my arms, glutes, and abs were sore the next day! The instructor was very nice to me and it was a welcoming environment! The only con for me is the price, I wish it could be cheaper. read more

I'm just about 10 classes in, so it's about time for a review, I hope it encourages others to give PBSL a try. It's true, no matter how old or what shape you're in you'll benefit from their workout. I can't say enough about all the great instructors here, and the clientele. First off, I've had a bad right knee for many years that has limited many of my old go to's, running, biking, roller blades and skiing, all fun end up met with pain and months of "letting it heal" then last year I had not one but two bad falls onto the right knee, one of the falls injuring the foot too. Really feeling fed up I sought out something to do, I wasn't getting enough exercise and I know that's a bad thing. I thought about kickboxing and was told at my doctor's office, "not recommended." So thankfully I recalled looking into Pure Barre online in the past and noticed they opened up a location in the South Loop. They tout low to no impact, the workout for people looking for something different, and it is. I met several people there that have had knee surgery, and other injuries, I was encouraged that there was a workout for people in this predicament. I was also encouraged that people that have been at it for a while look great. Defined arms and shoulders, flat tummies, and overall toned and great posture without looking bulked up. Consistency is important, I'm just at the point where you can start seeing changes, I'm down a few pounds and my jeans are getting a little loser. I also think I'm getting some ab definition, just a little, but I'll take it. I was really sore after the first class, now instead of really sore it's more of an awareness of each muscle group, they've been worked it's a positive thing, I also feel aligned as if I'm taller. Don't be fooled, it's a workout, the up an inch, down an inch, up... freeze, tuck and pulse. There's a language, and it takes a little bit to learn the moves. The instructors will help you here and check your form during the class, they will also show you modifications if you're injured or just getting the hang of it. They tell you to listen to your body, and if you need to stop, just stop and hop back in when you're ready. This isn't a sprint it's a marathon. You need to push through and you will get stronger. During the second class I had a moment where I thought to myself, I'm done, just can't do this. Well I did go back to the third class and now I'm on to number ten. It's getting better, and I can see doing this long term. My expectations are simple, get stronger, improve posture, and get toned. I don't have a size or weight number in mind, it's about health and feeling good, and that seems to be the prevailing attitude here. I've met some of the other reviewers on here, all great. Do take the time to read Jane's review that has been filtered, it was partly her encouragement that got me to that third class. I usually start a workout program and it gets worse after a bit, this is the opposite it's getting better. Quite often during the workout they say, you got this, you can do this. You're stronger than you think. It's true! read more

I went to my first class today. I liked all the staff, the facility was clean with lockers available. I took the 45min class since My stamina stinks right now. It was different than other exercise classes I've been to but really good!! There are multiple different exercises with small movements done for high reps. I watched the video on the website and that was fairly accurate depicting a class. After a few of the reps I could really feel the burn. The instructor was nice enough to give me feedback if my pose was off which I totally appreciated. Definitely check it out it's well worth a visit!! I don't have small children but it looked like childcare was available! I thought that was really great for parents too! read more

If you are looking for a workout to get you whipped into shape, look no further. Pure Barre will challenge you both physically and mentally. I have previously taken barre classes at other places, but never at Pure Barre. However, I had a great experience at this South Loop location. The owner and teacher was very nice, and I also was given a quick tour of the facility before class started. The building was very clean and new looking. There was a small boutique in the front which led to the big carped studio. In the back, there was various equipment, cubbies for or belongings, and a bathroom. The class itself (pure barre class) was challenging. Not in a sweating/cardio way but working more of your muscles in all areas of your body (especially the smaller muscles in your legs you don't use as much). Don't be surprised if your muscles shake during the workout. It's actually a good sign! There was also a great music playlist during our workout that made it easier to push through and move to the beat of the music. My class at Pure Barre left my legs and arms feeling like noodles when I left; however, I left feeling satisfied and excited to take my next class. I would highly recommend trying this barre class if you can! read more

Pure Barre South Loop is such an incredible place and I can't believe it took me so long to check it out! I am 35+ classes in over the course of about 3 months and I can honestly say that I don't ever see a time that I don't make this workout, and this place, a part of my life. At this point, I have tried classes with every instructor, basically every class time from 5:30am to 7pm and each format (classic, empower and, gulp, reform). It doesn't matter what time or with whom you take a class, they are all amazingly wonderful people and super challenging workouts. My body is getting stronger and I look forward to classes. For anyone with doubts, I can tell you what made me scared/reluctant/nervous to come to my first class, and why I was wrong. 1. I just started working out in February after taking an 8+ year break from regular physical fitness. I was (okay, still am) out of shape and overweight. I didn't think I would have a place in a studio filled with people that have perfect BMIs, thigh gaps and flexibility like ballerinas. I was wrong. Completely wrong. Every different age, body shape, gender, sexual identity and fitness level is represented pretty regularly. Pure Barre takes you where you are and just asks that give it your best on the date and time you show up. That can change from day to day; sometimes you don't need to touch your knees to the ground between plank sequences and sometimes you do. But the instructors are encouraging and the environment is kind. Trust me. I didn't believe it before I came, but it is true. Who you are and where you are starting from doesn't matter, the fact that you are there trying does. 2. I can't do complicated choreography and am totally uncoordinated (as anyone that has seen the scars on my face and shoulder from a recent fall can attest). Well folks, it doesn't matter. While some of the movements and terms seem odd at first, the instructors are so good at explaining what you are supposed to be doing that it doesn't take very long to pick it up. For the most part, you don't even need to look at them because their words communicate the moves so effectively. AND, if you aren't in the correct form or need help, they will kindly turn off the mic, give you corrections and then move on seamlessly while your thighs or seat (or arms or abs) are burning and shaking. 3. I sweat a lot and I will be too embarrassed to be dripping all over the place. Okay, maybe this is true sometimes. But I bring a towel and just try not to give a sh*t because no one else cares. I think there is an intimidating myth that everyone will be staring at you and that the mirrors are there to amplify "perfection". No one is because truly, no one has the ability to be focused on anything other than their own bodies in class. So bring a towel if you sweat, or wear a full face a makeup if you don't. But don't let that hold you back. 4. I will feel out of place because I am new. I didn't / don't and you won't. There is a positive energy that radiates from the studio and it kind of sucks you in. Once you are there, everything else stops and you are just tucking and pulsing up and inch / down and inch until you are on fire. It's awesome. So that's it. If you are remotely interested, give it a try. If it's not for you, fine, but thinking it may be for you but holding yourself back because it seems scary or intimidating is not a great reason. Oh yes, and the sticky socks do make a difference between being able keep on your toes in some positions, so def invest in them if you're planning to come more than once! read more

I'm hooked. What a concept. Will my body be transformed from these workouts? Time will tell! The first class I took muscles were being used/activated that laid dormant I guess from neglect. By the fourth class some of my muscles were "shaking" which is a good thing in the barre world I'm told. What's great is I'm never so sore that I can't function or move the next day. This is the first time I've experienced any type of barre class so I can't compare this method to the others that are out there. But I plan on continuing to take classes here when my schedule allows and I look forward to the next class I can take, especially with Lindsay! read more

Simply the best. About 6 months ago, I was looking for a way to get into shape before an upcoming vacation (get that beach bod ready, you know what I mean). PBSL was offering a $99 trial month, so I went for it. I figured worst case scenario, I don't love it, I'll just quit after that. Oh man, I had no idea that pure barre would grow into one of my passions! The workout is total-body. You'll sweat, you'll shake, you'll be sore the next day in places that you didn't even know had muscles! Full disclosure for newbies, the first class is hard and confusing. It's super fast-paced, with non-intuitive lingo like "tuck" and "pulse" and "bend-stretch." But by the time you've taken 3 or 4 classes, you'll be way more comfortable because each class follows the same basic format: warm-up, upper-body weight work, legs, seat (aka booty), abs, then a final push in the bridge position. And there's lots of stretching incorporated after the various phases, which feels great after exhausting your muscles. It sounds like a lot, but I swear to you, the hour really flies by! The studio also offers Empower, which is more of a cardio-based version, and Reform, which uses resistance bands. All of the instructors are seriously amazing-- beautiful inside and out, and so encouraging! I basically want to be Lindsay W. (the owner) when I grow up. A few final tips: wear leggings, a tank-top or shirt that will let you move your arms freely up and down, and sticky socks. You can wear regular socks, but the sticky socks really help when you're in a plank position or on your tiptoes. Honestly, I'd take classes all day every day if my body would let me. Give it a try-- you won't regret it. read more

I should begin by saying that I really never exercised. Walking on a treadmill is about as active as I get. After I turned 40 I noticed I was feeling tired often and gaining weight, so I decided to do something about it! I signed up for the intro month at PBSL and have been going about three times a week. The studio is clean and orderly and the instructors are all very nice and upbeat. The classes are hard, but also fun; good music and a fast pace so it's not boring. Every class is a little different so there's good variety. I'm about three weeks in now and I'm starting to get the hang of the moves and using muscles that I forgot I had! I leave class feeling happy that I went every time. My muscles still shake but I take that as a sign that I am slowly getting stronger, I'm going to stick with the classes and I would really recommend them to anyone, even someone who is totally out of shape like me! read more

Love, love, love PBSL! I've been attending classes here for a little less than a year. Pure Barre work outs are low impact but definitely challenging. One of the things I love about them is each exercise can be done at a variety of intensity levels and the instructors always provide guidance if you need to take it up or down a notch. PBSL is such a welcoming and supportive environment where the emphasis is on being strong versus being skinny. It is clear the owner, Lindsay, and every single instructor really care about what they do! read more

This is easily one of the best workout studios in Chicago! I found it on ClassPass - I live in the neighborhood and have been looking for a new workout. I've only been a few times but will likely sign up for a membership. The instructors here are incredible! A lot of studios can be intimidating when you're new, but everyone here makes you feel welcome and makes sure you feel comfortable before class begins. The energy is great and the instructors do a great job correcting your form if you're off a bit. Absolutely love this place! read more

Pure Barre classes have been the only workout that I have been consistent with in my life. I began going to Pure Barre - South Loop in November 2017 knowing my wedding is November 2018. I can say that just 7 months into my process I am sleeping better, feeling stronger and even a happier person. I even started going to the 6AM classes, which I learned to really love! The classes are the perfect amount of time (45-50 minutes) where it doesn't consume your morning/evening. I highly recommend PBSL! read more

Great workout, studio and instructors! I've gone about a handful of times and while I'm still working on my form and tuck, I thoroughly enjoy it and believe it's a great workout! They offer great specials all the time and little perks here and there. You'll need grip socks which you can buy on amazon or in store. read more

i've been going to PBSL for about 3+ months now and I'm a fan! The instructors are attentive, helpful and truly encouraging. The studio is super cute and being a south loop resident I LOVE being able to walk there. There is street parking as well, so during bad weather I'm always able to find a park. In short - try it out. I'm hooked as this is a nice compliment to my yoga and spin class regimen. Also - I've done Bar Method before multiple times and I actually like Pure Barre better. The class flows quicker and the movements, though similar, are less awkward. SO GLAD they are in my hood! read more

Pure Barre SL is amazing! The instructors and staff here are friendly and welcoming. They know your name, and it feels like you are hanging out with friends while burning calories. I've never been one to exercise before, but finding this studio has completely changed me and my health. I actually look forward to working out here and miss it when I don't come. I would highly recommend this studio to anyone, regardless of age or body type. Not gonna sugarcoat it, the classes are hard, but you will see changes in yourself quickly. So worth it. read more

I was excited for Pure Barre to open up in my neighborhood and was even more pumped that they are offering free classes for their first few days. I went to a class this morning and really enjoyed it. It was pretty challenging, but the staff members were kind and supportive, and I felt that I got an excellent workout. The studio itself is clean and nice, and they provide all of the equipment you need (tubes, balls, weights, and mats). There is a small retail area in the front, and there are cubbies and bathrooms in the back of the studio, but I didn't see any showers. I'm seriously contemplating a membership here and am looking forward to returning! read more

I've taken Pure Barre at other studios and loved it. So when I saw that this location (which is close to home) was under construction, I was very excited. Thanks to Kate J. for checking in because somehow I missed the opening! Classes are 55 minutes, but they go by quickly. A normal class starts with abs, then arms, thighs/seat, more abs, ending with more seat work. The focus is on small movements and you'll do a lot of reps with light weights, a ball, or a tube as your resistance. That doesn't sound like much, but please believe that Pure Barre is tough -- it definitely exposes weaknesses. But as one of the other reviewers noted, the classes don't prevent you from doing other workouts and actually complement running, swimming, etc. I have done cardio right before a class and it was hard, but doable. Other barre studios don't mix as well with cardio in my opinion (looking at you Barre Code). No matter how fit/unfit/whatever you are, these classes will make you stronger if you push through the "burn" also known as pain, lol. read more

The Pure Barre Studio has been the sweetest surprise in the South Loop! As an avid Zumba and Spin class student, I have always enjoyed group fitness classes but had never tried anything like PB before. From the very first day, I felt welcomed in the studio, even thought I had no idea what I was doing . I thought I would be embarrassed when I couldn't hold the plank the entire time or do a full sit up, but I have never felt ashamed or inadequate in any of the classes I've taken. I think that speaks volumes for the energy that the owner and instructors have created inside the Studio. Classes are hard. Every day, every time. They don't get easier, but YOU get stronger. Trust me, you do! My favorite part of class is seeing the improvements in myself. Sometimes they are tiny, but every class I learn more and get stronger. The instructors are extremely encouraging and helpful. Pure Barre is a fantastic and unique workout for anyone and it is DEFINITELY worth trying.. plus the first week is free so what are you waiting for!? read more

Pure Barre South Loop is fabulous! The Pure Barre workouts are fun, varied, and highly effective; I depended on them to get in-shape before my June 2019 wedding! Moreover, the South Loop location is by far the best PB facility I've ever been to. The staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly, sure to help any newcomers with equipment or explanations of terms. They also have great timing and energy throughout the classes. The other attendees are also kind and approachable, with men and women from all age brackets and walks of life. I cannot recommend Pure Barre South Loop highly enough! read more

Pure Barre has been a staple in my life for about 3 years now and when switching to the South Loop location - I was scared since it was a new studio - would i like it just as much? How are the teachers? What's the schedule like? I have to say after attending classes at South Loop for almost 3 months now - all my worries faded away! The teachers are great, the studio is always clean, they have the cutest merchandise and my first week of classes I received texts from the owner making sure my experience was great! So welcoming and a great place to get stronger! read more

I had been going to the bar method for 7 years. A friend told me to try pure barre she said they are opening one in your neighborhood. I walked over and tried a class and I loved it. I have been going for a few weeks now. The owner and staff are very friendly and the exercises are challenging. They switch the routines so I'm challenged every time I go. I thought I would never leave the bar method but pure barre has taken me away. I love it!!! read more

How can I say this... PBSL IS EVERYTHING Ok let me try to break it down: - First and foremost, whatever it is you're looking for, don't even need to know what it is, they've got it - The studio and staff are ideal. The studio is clean, cozy, perfect. The owner, Lindsay, along with every instructor/staff member are all super cool ladies you'll wanna be best friends with because they all have this incredibly positive & encouraging energy that will make you feel welcome before your first class, enjoy every single class you take, and even after your 50th or whatever one still make you feel great about yourself afterward - The class itself is so much more than a workout - it's more like a too good to be true comprehensive mind/body workshop (to an amazing playlist mix) that seems to be the fastest hour of the day and has you feeling very real mental/physical benefits before you even start to think you should be. And (similar to when I was like man the only thing Taco Bell is missing is fries and they were like hey, fries) if you want cardio, boom, Pure Empower I'm a physician and my lifestyle for the longest time had me feeling like a depressed deflated potato probably past its peak. This has literally been a life-changer for me. Physically, I feel stronger, slimmer, and more flexible than I think I ever have and superficially finally sculpting the ole dream bod (that up until now I thought was just out of reach for me)! Mentally, I feel healthier, positive, clear-headed, in the zone, zenned out - happier and more beautiful inside/out. Sidenotes: - Bad bones run in the fam and I always felt limited in being able to challenge myself with working out until these classes - they're so low impact and sustainable you can go almost everyday without hurting (and make the most of your membership) - it's amazing! - I've never woken up earlier than absolutely necessary in my entire life and I've been doing the 6AMers 3-4x/week without hesitation - everybody that knows me's jaws are still on the floor - When your husband's like "whoa" I LOVE PBSL (you will, too!) read more

I have been going to Pure Barre for the past few weeks. I absolutely love it and Lindsay Norcom is the best instructor. I have a long way to go for my fitness goals but this is the first work out that I have become addicted to. I get really hard on myself and usually get discouraged if I am not doing things perfect (and end up quitting) but Lindsay makes me feel so comfortable. Just her remembering my name (everyone does actually) helped me so much. The small things she does during class, really helps me keep going. It's so important to feel encouraged vs like you are a failure. Pure Barre South Loop is just so amazing. After 10 classes I have the hang of it and am now pushing myself. It's not easy but low impact is key for me. I have more energy and feel mentally better after each class. It releases the stresses from the day. The studio is nice and new and clean. Perfect location from the Roosevelt station and bus stop on the corner. read more

I LOVE South Loop Pure Barre!! The manager and staff are so friendly, greet you by name when you walk in, ask how you are doing and even work out with you. This is an amazing workout. In just 2 1/2 months going three times a week I have lost over 20 pounds along with eating healthy. My BMI has gone down 4 points, my BMR has gone up and I have gained 4 pounds of muscle. This workout is great for toning and you will see results in a short amount of time. It is definitely a hard workout and your muscles will shake but it is so worth it. What I love most about PBSL is they offer a free week to all South Loopers- what a great way to determine if this is the workout for you. Can't say enough about this place- on my way there now!! read more

Great place to get a very challenging, fast-paced workout. The team is very welcoming and creates a positive and supportive environment.

I've been going to PBSL for about 2 years now; I decided to try it to supplement my distance running, since I needed to do some strength training after a few injuries. I was hooked after the first couple of classes. I've always struggled to stick with anything that wasn't an endurance sport (weight lifting bores me to tears; yoga didn't keep my interest; etc.) but I am never bored in PB. Every class is a little different; it's difficult (especially Reform) but not impossible; the 50 minutes goes by pretty fast; and there are regular monthly challenges to keep you motivated. Most importantly, taking classes over the long term has definitely improved my overall strength and posture. And the instructors and staff are always so friendly and welcoming here--they really make en effort to get to know you and build a sense of community. There's a lot of positive energy in this place, and lots of support, which is a big reason I keep coming back. read more
