First time here with my youngest. The vibe of the lobby is very chill, and I absolutely loved the aquarium and animal life to observe instead of video games or iPads. The staff was so friendly & right away I could see this office works like a well oiled machine. Every step taken was explained beforehand from x-rays to fluoride treatment to teeth cleaning and polishing, which was invaluable to us as my son was a little nervous. The treatment area is very open, clean, and neat. The exam went smoothly and we left with an entry into the no-sugar bug raffle for having no cavities. Success! Parents, always heed caution with offices and professionals that will not allow you to be alone with unconscious children. Children need a voice and need protection at all times. It's never a good sign if you are not allowed to be alone with your unconscious child. Especially if they are special needs. Do not bring your child to this office or to any office that does not allow you to be with them. Literally ANYTHING could be happening and you aren't there to protect them. Please keep THIS in mind. Update: Unfortunately, Due to Covid and many changes within the healthcare system, it's difficult to be in the back room with your child while they are under anesthesia. This is incredibly frustrating as you can't trust everyone with your children. Even licensed professionals. I encourage everyone to do as much research as you can on the places you consider for your child's care. Read reviews and ask around to get a better picture of where you are taking your child. My 3 year old son and I came in for the second time for his 6 month check up and everyone in the office was very kind. My son is autistic and without even requesting, they were very accommodating. They were very gentle when it came to trying to take X-rays, put us in a private room in the back that was less stimulating, and didn't force anything that made him uncomfortable. read more

My son was sedated today. He's a very verbal toddler. He let me know that the dentist yelled "stop it!" I'm sure he was really anxious, but every client deserves compassionate care and the right to be treated with kindness. I have been bringing both of my children here for some time. I'm considering going elsewhere. I understand you have a lot to do. Be respectful and kind. Don't put a front when parents are around and then think that the kids under sedation won't remember. I was livid because I worry that this experience may negatively impact his future dental visits. Dental care is essential for maintaining good oral health, so it's important that children feel safe and supported during their treatments. Just something to consider for your child- assistants are not allowed to use the scaler to remove plaque/tartar build up during a "cleaning". My son had a cleaning/check up and when we got home, I noticed he still had to visible tartar build up in between his bottom front teeth. I was surprised that the dentist glossed over it and did not mention it or try to remove it. I called the office and was given the above information. I think the dentist could have at least mentioned there was tartar build up and that the assistants could not remove it. A dentist could remove it, but apparently the dentist chose not to in this case. The women that I spoke with said that there would be a note put in his chart to have a more through cleaning or that I can start taking him to a hygienist, which I will obviously be doing now. You take your kid to the dentist thinking their teeth are going to be cleaned, but instead my child's teeth were left with tartar build up which could potentially lead to issues. read more

Goodness what a choice. I've taken my youngest here for years. She LOVES Dr. Dentist (Martinez I believe) and he is always so encouraging and kind to her. He engages her like a little big person and is very respectful to me as her mother. My issue is that you can ONLY go in with YOUR LEGAL CHILD. I don't agree with this because I used to provide insurance for my step son and they had no problem taking my money or my insurance's payments, but I can't TAKE HIM there. It's really frustrating when I'm a stay at home mom for this exact reason: to take the kids to dr appts during the day. They flat out refused to see us and made us reschedule! So now my husband has to take time off his job (which luckily is accommodating). BUT my issues isn't even for our situation. What if a provider CANT take time off work or they'll be fired? The office will NOT take verbal permission or written permission from a legal parent. They claim it has something to do with their own office insurance. So, if you are a step parent, don't come here. If you are raising your grandchildren, don't come here. But if you can overlook all that, they truly are great with kids. 9/10 will return. I just can't get over this ridiculous policy they have that no other office I've ever been to has. read more

My six year old was experiencing extreme pain and we were able to get an initial appointment very quickly...diagnosed with several cavities needing to be filled but had to wait a month to get them fixed and were advised to just ibuprofen and Tylenol it to assist with the pain. My son complained about how mean they were to him in the back while he was restrained (parents aren't allowed back). (Also note, my son is a little dramatic so take that with a grain of salt.) Three weeks after the fillings, my son now has a large abscess that started as inflamed gums and now is in a lot of pain. We called their emergency line and left messages twice today, still no answer, I guess they already got their payment out of us so we're on our own. I took my son to his PCP and I'll be dentist shopping on Monday. If anyone has any recommendations for a pediatric dentist, I'll happily take them! Update- we took him in and he saw another dentist. They apologized profusely for not being available via the 24 hour phone and scheduled a procedure to help with the abscess- all for no additional out of pocket, but $300 for my insurance. If you do decide on this place, prepare to wait over an hour to be seen, so schedule your sedation appointments accordingly since your child can't eat or drink after they go to bed and until after the procedure. We had a 10 an appointment, he was finally taken back at 11:40- poor hangry little 6 year old!! read more

I decided to read the Yelp reviews the morning of my 3 year old's appt & I have to admit that I had the urge to cancel his appt...but I'm so glad I didn't! First off, the RDA Erica was an absolute sweetheart & she made my son so comfortable. She did her best to explain to him everything she was doing & she took the time to show him all of the tools & explain what they were used for. This childrens dentistry is a little out of the way for us but it is worth the drive. Thry are very family friendly and they know how to treat a customer. This place also discribes everything they are having done and go over the prices with you before just moving along and charging you the road like some other shady dentistries. We have been going here for a couple years now and wouldnt take the kids anywhere else. Of course insurance takes care.of most of it but we really enjoy the service they provide out kids. They have a great waiting area for the kids with newly released movie that isnt just on the preview screen and several games for the kids to play (bring you hand sanitizer). I don't recommend this place because I have always taken my children to the regular check up every 6 months to prevent cavities, but my surprise was that on last check up the DR Martinez told me that my daughter had 7 cavities, and one of them need it dental surgery. When I told his assistant that I need to speak with the Dr; she told me that was impossible because he was busy, so I questioned the assistant how could that happen; the reason why I bring my daughters every 6 months is to prevent cavities, so I asked her if they were just doing it as a business to collect money from the insurance. She got mad and respond with I don't know why they didn't take X-Ray to your daughter because those cavities been there for a long time maybe she didn't let them, and than she told me if you don't like this clinic you should find another clinic, so I got mad because that was impossible because my daughter is a good girl and she always likes to go to the dentist. Due to that complain DR. Joseph Curtin refused to see my daughter even though he knew that she needed the surgery done ASAP for the problem that they caused to my daughter. How is it possible that there's clinic that are playing with ours children's dental health care just to get money out of the insurance. That is indignant and not professional. read more

I'm not thrilled with this place. First, they are located off of truxtun, east of Mohawk. So as I'm walking my two year old to the building, a homeless man approached us and angrily yells, "what are you looking at?!" Fortunately, a staff member let us in quickly because otherwise we'd have to wait outside because of covid restrictions. Well as we are getting checked in, the same homeless guy opens the door twice! There's a lock right there on the door. I'm not sure why she didn't just twist it? During my sons first dental appointment, it all seemed so rushed. Nothing was necessarily horrible -or so it seemed. But the dental assistant and the dentist seemed to feel rushed. What bothered me most is that this is a pediatric dental facility, and not once did the dentist talk to my son before diving into his mouth. So of course my two year old cried. I was expecting him to cry, but I was also expecting the dentist to include my son (the patient) on who he is and what he does. When I left the appointment, I didn't have a good feeling. I told my mother in law what happened (who was an orthodontic assistant and worked up to a managing position) was appalled at my sons experience. Her reaction surprised me initially, but as I thought about it, I work with children and I would do everything I can to make them feel at ease. That was not done for my son. read more

Do not subject your kids to this place. My son was completely traumatized and I feel terrible that I didn't listen to his warnings about just how bad this place treats their young patients. These people threatened my then 8 year old son saying, "you hear those kids screaming? If you don't stop crying you'll go to the torture room." They told my other son that they would take him away from me if he continued crying. They do not allow parents in the back during treatment, when your kids are drugged up. Now my sons both shake in fear going to the dentist and I feel terrible they're now scarred. There's no legal recourse because you sign that all away in the fine print at the beginning. DO NOT come here!!! STAY AWAY!! First, let me start off by apologizing to everyone who has posted about an awful experience at Dr. Purdy's office. For the last 11+ years I have defended and even recommended Dr. Purdy, but I was wrong and ALL of you were right!!! I am SO sorry! I have NEVER experienced such unprofessional discriminatory treatment in my life!!! They were beyond rude to me, but what's worse is they were extremely rude to my parents (the sweetest parents in the world, I might add). They refused to see my children because I wasn't present, even though my parents have taken my children In the past, when I arrived minutes later they refused to let us in because they claimed I "yelled" at them (lie 1)- I was walking through the halls at work, then they said my dad was cussing at them (lie 2)!!! The woman at the door argued with me in front of my children, which is something I never do, and continued to tell lie after lie because they clearly didn't want to see my children and apparently wanted to get off early. I feel so bad for my kids, so bad for my parents and how they were treated!! What a heart breaking experience! read more

This place is always so patient with the kiddos, took my 2 year old for a check up and they were so patient and I didnt have a worry. They even sent me home a picture of her at her first dental appointment. The waiting room is painted with the cutest jungle animals to match their giraffe log. There are video games in the lobby to keep the kids busy and not worried about what was about to go on. There is a sign that parents cannot use their cell phones at all, I'm sure this is important but it isn't happening. Kids on video games parents on their phone it is what it is. I took the opportunity to book a visit to my school in February to discuss with the little ones about brushing and flossing correctly. They always give a great presentation so I was excited they are coming back. read more

Dr. Purdy's office was awful. We have 3 kids and unfortunately, 2/3 of my kids have been affected by this office, first of all, if your child needs dental work they will give them a liquid to drink called Demerol (meperidine). A narcotic that will make them euphoric and practically fall over. When I asked the staff why my son was falling they said he was "high on Demerol"-their words. Look up the risks associated with this drug and ask yourself, is the cavity filling worth these risks. After allowing my kids to go back, my daughter returned crying stating that the Dr. told her to shut up because she would scare the kids in the waiting room. Parents are not allowed to go back with the kids ever. This office staff is so rude. Please consider a doctor that uses laughing gas only with novocaine. Their current dentist (Dr. Sturz who is incredible) said that he would never dream of giving a child a narcotic. He said if the problem was severe he would schedule time at the hospital so they can be under the care of an anesthesiologist. Very unprofessional business. They lied and said my husband swore at them. All he asked if he could sit in the waiting room because it was too hot outside. I have taken my grandchildren there in the past and all of a sudden only the parents can bring them. I believe we were discriminated against. They wanted to go home early do they lied and said my husband swore at them. They are liars. They also said parents couldn't go back with their children but there was a Caucasian father back there with his child. Find another dentist and look at the reviews they are there for a reason. THEY TRAUMATIZED MY 7 YEARS OLD DAUGHTER!!! I took my daughter today for a root canal. They didn't allow me to be in the room with her. When my daughter was discharged, she had a traumatized face. She couldn't talk as her left cheek and left side of the tongue were sedated for the procedure. I asked the nurse, what happened and she told me that my daughter cried a little because the mouth piece was uncomfortable. We came back home and my daughter had been crying all day. Finally when her sedation started wearing off and she could talk again. She told me that they did not numb her jaw for the root canal properly and she could feel everything they were doing and when she tried to tell them that it's hurting and she can feel everything, the nurse and the doctor YELLED at her that everything is numb and to STOP CRYING!!. My daughter is only 7 years old and she has a very high pain tolerance. She has been traumatized. I can't even imagine what they put my poor child through. When I searched online, I saw so many reviews of parents saying the same thing. I wish I had seen the reviews earlier and saved my daughter for being traumatized. My suggestion is PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT TRAUMATIZE YOUR KIDS BY TAKING THEM TO PURDY PEDIATRICS. SHAME ON Dr. PURDY and his team. They don't deserve to have their office and practice running. I hope that their medical license is revoked. No child deserves to be put through such a traumatic dental experience. THEY ARE PATHETIC. read more

As of Wednesday (04/11/17) no one, I repeat no one from that office has returned my phone calls. So I place a charge dispute with my bank, and they have credited my account. It's honestly been such a shame of how horrible Dr. Purdy's office has been. The worst part has been how they ignore complains & try to sweep them under the rug, because in further investigating, I saw that people have made several complaints on Yelp, FB, and no one from that office has addressed the issues. I have been bringing my granddaughter to Dr. Purdy's office for a couple years. The office staff is not friendly, and many of the hygienists are grouchy. When I brought my granddaughter today at 7:30, I was told I had a credit of $128 when being asked about fluoride. This was the first time I was told this. I asked for my money back, and they said they would have to check on this. Not only did they keep the $128 for 6 months without telling me, we waited for 45 minutes before she ever got checked. Mid October my son's tooth filling fall out. Next day I called dentist Purdy they said to bring him in that same day. I brought him and and he was seen. All they did was x-rays and prescribed Amoxicillin, next they gave me an appointment for Dec 3rd to do the filling treatment. I told the girls it was way to far from October if they had a sooner appt, she said no. But she suggested me to call every week to see if they any cancelled appts so I could bring in my son. So, Okay I kept the Dec3rd appt. Twice a week I would call to see if they had cancelled appts they kept saying no. Three weeks passed, suddenly one morning(Friday) my son wakes up with a very painful tooth ache and a swollen cheek. I called Purdy they told me to bring him in right away, so I brought him. They told me he had infection and that they could not save his tooth and that it would be extracted and that they would squeeze him in on Monday morning 7:30am to have that tooth extracted. Again they prescribed him Amoxicillin. Okay, asap I went that Friday morning to get the Amocicillin and started the first dosis at 9am. He had three dosis' on Friday. Saturday morning he woke up with half his face swollen (cheek, nose and eye) and with alot of pain. I took him to Childrens hospital and they said he had alot of infection and that he had lost that tooth so they told me to stop the amoxicillin and they prescribed Clindamycin a stronger antibiotic. Due to unavailable appointments my son went through alot of pain. Just giving heads up to parents bringing in their child to this dentist. I will sure not bring any of my kids here anymore. The staff here is not very good at there job. My child was referred to this dentist by our primary dental, because of an abscess. So I called to make an appointment and the lady told me they have no opening till May, we are in March. They didn't have any openings because they are all book with kindergarten registration appointment. I told her I didn't think she should wait that long with an abscess in her mouth. So she said she would put me on the cancellation list to call. Well almost a week and a half. Passes so I just called them to see if they have any openings and another staff member tells me. She was never put on the call list because the previous employee didn't put her on the schedule at all. So, we are basically waiting for nothing. Bad costumes service, they scheduling staff needs to get their stuff together and understand what's priority and not over book kindergarten registration appointment and leave a couple of slots open for priority visits. I called another another children's dentist and got her in next day and they said more then likely they will do the work on her same day. I will not refer here, if they can't do this fist simply job right . I'm not talking the chance on what's to happen in the back. read more

Im so furious with this place!!!!! I took my son in for his annual check up. They noticed he had an Infection on a tooth that they have previously done work on. The dental assistant told me that the infection is caused from them drilling too deep on the tooth for the filling that they had to put in, so the tooth now has to be pulled for them to clear out the infection. When I went to book the appointment for the visit instead of them booking it when I was available to attend, They book him out over a month with an infection that's been in his mouth for going on three months now. Then Decided to tell me that a stepparent can't bring them to the appointment that they don't consider step parents parents! so they're OK with Rebooking my child out another couple months till spring break knowing he has an infection in his mouth that was caused from the work that they did! when they were refusing to give me an appointment that I was available for. To me this looks like improper care of a patient, they are not taking the time to make sure that their Child patients are taken care of especially a patient with an abscess tooth! I am overly upset that the infection has been in my sons mouth of this long and just kept hearing we'll call him in another anabiotic so how many anabiotic's does my son have to take to get treatment! Because of my work schedule I can't attend the appointment, but his other parent who was able to attend and they told me no that I would have to cancel my appointment Because they don't see stepparents as actual parents that is completely ridiculous! read more

My son has extreme anxiety when it comes to the dentist or doctor. He's had to have a lot of test done since he was little and now is terrified needing to have anything done. We were referred to Dr. Purdy thinking they were obviously more specific to children so I assumed they would be more patient and handle kids everyday, so they will be able to help my son. I was completely wrong, this was the worst experience I've ever had. As soon as we stepped in the room to take the drink my son started stressing out and crying. I was doing my best trying to calm him down but the 2 staff members just stared at me and this one particular staff member told my son if he doesn't take the medicine, will have to force it. I started getting extremely stressed and I was trying to be more stern with him which obviously didn't help because he was terrified at this point. No one ever tried to help calm him or distract him. Nothing!!! She walks out and says we're not doing this. My son runs after her and says he'll take it and she just tells him no and says they have other children they have to take care of today. My son starts bawling crying!!!! We've been waiting for months and his tooth has to be taken out. This appointment was so important and they just acted like nothing! They saw I was literally on the verge of a meltdown with tears in my eyes and could care less! read more

Shitty attitudes from manager and staff in office, calling me a liar over a paper I know was filled out two years ago, telling me they never said I could have someone help and take my kiddo to app when they said as long as I had a paper signed it was okay, the manager straight up told me "it was my responsibility as a parent to bring my kid" even tho I work in a covid unit. So she didn't care if I brought it around my kid. Last but not least told me that her staff member didn't mean to be heart less when she told me my daughter had "just a cavity" let alone my daughter has had 3 major jaw surgeries. Took my kid to have for baby teeth extraction, and it was a very terrible experience. They took my boy to the back and would not allow me to be there with my boy. The dentist wouldn't even come out to speak with me when he (or she, I have never met the person) decided more teeth needed to be extracted. I brought my 3yo here after researching for dentist for his checkup. I drove past it when o was looking for it. The lobby has 2 tablets for the kids to play while they waited (only one was working and a 3rd was out of order) and 2 PlayStation (i think) for them for play also. The receptionist are really nice and friendly. Once we got to the back, they took him for his xrays and asked us to wait in front of the chair he would be getting examined. I liked how we were allowed to be back there with him. That was the main reason we chose dr purdys office. The xray room was right outside the door so i could hear my son getting them done. I was amazed that they were able to get them done which shows how patient they are with kids. When they brought him to his chair, they gave him a handheld gameboy while he waited. The dentist came and examined him and i like how he explained everything he was doing and spoke to my son to get him comfortable. Afterwards, they give you a care bag on the way out. Definitely recommend this office for parents that want to be able to be with their kids when exams are being done. read more

My son loves coming here! Every time we come the staff is polite and professional, dr Purdy is definitely a person who loves there job. They do a great job getting you in a room as soon as you sign in, everything seems very clean and sanitized. My son just got some fillings and he didn't even shed a tear. The only thing I would suggest is maybe having a wheel chair for children who have been under anesthesia or meds that cause drowsiness, or even a loading zone where you can pull up to put put them easily in the car, it can get difficult carrying a drowsy kid to a car. Just took all three of my boys here. Dr. Purdy's office was suggested to us by Kern Regional Center. My twin boys are autistic and I was told that this office does offer sedation for oral exams and procedures. Everyone was super friendly and patient, considering its summer and they were extremely busy, we weren't made to feel rushed or unwelcome at any point. Our first visit was with my 6 year old non verbal son, who has many issues with different spaces, light, sound and noises. He was ok, when it came time for the exam the dr was fast and very patient with having me hold my son. He will need to be sedated for the cleaning, X-rays and some sealant on a couple of teeth; but the procedure was explained and questions were answered. The second visit was with my 7 year old and his other 6 year old brother. My boys loved the video games and the decor of the office. Again everyone was polite and efficient. The only thing that I didn't care for was, it did take 30 days from the time I called to the time we actually had appointments, but again it is summer and I'm sure a lot of parents had the same idea...get the dental appointments done while the kids are out of school, so I'm not going to hold that against them. Since it was our first visit I did have to fill out forms, but we didn't wait too long considering how busy the office was. I highly recommend this office for your child, especially if they have special needs. Update: my son had an appointment scheduled this morning at 7:45 to have some work done. Two weeks ago I received a letter stating that the office will be moved effective 8/1/16. This morning I drove to the new location, the office wasn't set up at all, no cars in the parking lot...should've been my first clue. A gentleman came out of the office and said that no one is here today. I called the office but I only got the voicemail. Left a message that I was at the new location, but will be headed to the old office location so we're running late. Arrived at the old location to only find one car in the parking lot and a carpet cleaning van cleaning the carpets in the office. Went to open the door...locked. Someone was inside and told me to walk around back. Mind you the entire time my special needs son has reached his limit and was screaming and crying by this time. The young lady, who seemed to just be babysitting while the carpets were being cleaned told me that this office is closed and I should go to the new office. I told her no, that I was just there and no one is there either. She said she'd have the office manager call to re schedule. Fuming at this point I leave another voicemail asking for a call back with an explanation and left my phone numbers. At 10:39 I received a call from Krista, apologizing for the mix up, and was given a story of how they've been asked to move quickly out of the building and phone calls and letters were mailed to patients with appointments on Monday and Tuesday. Here's my issue: I took my boys in initially June 27th and June 30th for their assessment appointments. At that time I made appointments for the procedures and were scheduled 8/1 and 8/8. I received a letter saying that the office was moving, but no letter stating that the office will be closed on 8/1 and that it would be cancelled or I need to reschedule? I filled out paperwork for all three of my boys with my cell, home and husband's phone but no one called to tell me they were closed or I need to reschedule? If I can't be reached by the staff about an appointment/office change how can I trust them to take my special needs children in the back without me?? I asked to cancel my other son's appointment and to be reimbursed for the services I had pre paid for, but the computers won't be up until Wednesday 8/3....we'll see how that goes. I've been bringing my daughter here for years. The doctors and staff are always friendly. It makes dentist visits very easy! I've recommended to plenty of friends and they're all loving it. Plus, the decor makes it a great atmosphere for the kiddos. read more
